Hi!
That is so funny and cool because we live in Franklin...just down the street from Woonsocket! Wow! It IS a small world!

Yeah wow i've been to franklin so many times. aha my dad's from bellingham and he now works in millis/milford. So is your daughter on the boards or facebook groups? it'd be great to meet someone who lives locally thats doing the program.

She isn't on the boards, yet, but she says she is going to get on them. She has a facebook. It is Caitie Martin and she goes to Tri-CountyReg Voc-Tech High School. It would be great if you guys could meet! She doesn't know anyone else who is doing the program. Her guidance counselor had never even heard of it.

Great, I'll look her up. No one at my school knew about the program either, just the CP program. So I'm a first!

BTT and perhaps we could get a sticky?

Devin- I am so happy for you- you have been on pins and needles for so long! Congrats!!

Congrads on getting in!!! ... I know Nichele was excited to hear that you got.. Congrads to everyone else for getting in too ... its been a while since i have been able to get online .. been so busy with getting Nichele ready to go and planning her party for graduation .... and working by the time i am done i am wanting to go to bed ..lol but i am happy to hear about everyone getting in:)

Hi,
My name is Jenny and I am joining Disboards and this thread because we just found out today that my daughter was accepted for the Fall CareerStart session! She is so excited! She will be in Attractions. We are excited for her and, also, a little nervous because we live in Massachusetts, so it will be pretty far away. The good thing is we already have a trip planned for August 22 to September 1 and now we will just maybe extend it a few days...how horrible;)...to make sure she is all set! Anyway, it doesn't seem real yet...she has been talking about this for a couple of years now and defending her decision to people who don't understand how she wanted to try this before college. I look forward to everyone's advice!
Thanks! :woohoo:

Hello .. My name is Lisa ... my daughter is Nichele and she made it in fall CS program ... she is doing Merch... and is soo excited!! I dont think Sept 1st can come fast enough for her ..LOL

We understand about defending your decision here too, some ppl cant understand why Nichele wants to do this. They think she should go to college.. but she has wanted to do this for a while. Its been a BIG dream of hers too. Goin to college right now isnt what she wants to do I told her to follow her heart and do what makes her happy!! .. no one lives her life but her and she doesnt have to defend her decisions to anyone ! For the most part she has lot of support behide her. She is really ready to go nowand i am sure everyone else is too ...lol .. but i told her i needed more time with her before she leaves me ... even though she is only 2 hours away it still feels like its more...

Anyways congrads to your daughter for following her dreams! and for making it in... its goin to be soo exciting for everyone.... :yay:

No problem- everyone was new at some point. I'm kinda new to the DIS, but I have been on Disney discussion boards for over 10 years!

Threads keep moving down the board list if no one responds- no new posts.
If a thread is "stickied" it stays in the top section of the board.
Look on the College Board main page and see all the the threads that say "Sticky"? They never move to page 2 and so on. It's easier to find them.

Hope that helps! :)

Yup same here I've been on boards before but not DIS or any Disney for that matter.

THank you for helping me understand what it meant :)

Hi everyone! Another mom here with an excited DD. She got accepted and will be doing QSFB. I know where yall are coming from with the college thing. Sarah, my DD, has been doing the dual enrolment program at school so she does have some college under her belt. She just wants to find out now what exactly she wants to do. What better place than DW?!
I know I will have tons of questions for yall soon. I am still trying to let it sink in that she will be working there in the Fall.haha
Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!

Congratulations to your daughter!!! My daughter is also QSFB and she is super excited! Has your daughter joined the careerstart thread? It is a great way to get to know everyone before they actually arrive.

My daughter has a pretty good idea of what she wants to do but this program will give her the opportunity to really find out what is right for her. I know of so many seniors who really do not have an idea of what they want to study or do after high school and there just seems to be so much pressure to attend college right away. I am glad these kids have another option.

Iris she hasnt yet. Between work, school, dance and boyfriend she hasnt had time. I know what you mean about the pressure of going to college. She has gotten all of her core classes done at the local JC and all she has left are her electives. WooHoo! That has saved us a ton of money! hehe She wants to go into the film editing field. Trying to figure out if she wants more film or news/ t.v. seems to be where she is stuck. I would love for her to also go to Valencia while she is down there. Do you know if that is possible?

Hi!

Congratulations to your daughter!:woohoo:

My daughter is Caitie...she is in Attractions. She is sooo excited but sooo nervous! We bought a comforter and sheets this afternoon and she got so scared because it kind of makes it real!

I totally understand about the college thing. We spent the whole weekend explaining it to people at her skating competition and some people were really excited about it for her and some felt it was kind of beneath them or their kids. I am very glad she has the sense and bravery to go against the grain and do this to find out if she likes it. She goes to a voc/tech high school and is in the culinary program. In her 4 years studying culinary arts she has discovered that...she doesn't like to cook! Thank goodness we didn't have to pay for high school! She does like the service part, though, and is very good at it! This is what has led her to thinking she may want to go into hospitality and her decision to try it out through WDW...can't find a better place! I would MUCH rather her do this, figure out what she wants to do, meet new people, and everything else that comes with it, than have her go to college and hate what she is trying to do! I am very proud that she can go against the grain!

I am sorry if this has been asked before...but...does anyone have an idea of what goes on for the first few days when they check in? We have a vacation planned...at WDW, of course!...for the 10 days before she has to check in...happy coincidence for us! Now we are trying to decide if we should keep it the same and stay for a few extra days to help her settle or should we push our arrival date back a few days or some other scenario that I am sure will further complicate our crazy decision process! I want to be there until at least the 3rd or 4th to help her out if she needs it!

Thanks!

When we first check in we'll have an apartment meeting that same day however that's it until the 3rd day when we will have traditions. Also they are strict about our check in it has to be between 9am and 1pm. But in all likely hood the schedule will be check in on Wednesday (the first) have the apartment meeting Thursday the second is a day off...and Friday is when we would start traditions.

Thanks! So, I am thinking we should leave maybe Thursday night so she won't be all upset when she starts Traditions. I would stay forever but we have to be back for my son to start high school the week after Labor Day. I think she has met you on Facebook and here already! She is soooo nervous!

Haha yea we met online. But my parents are leaving on Thursday which I actually think most are because I believe traditions is an all day thing. But just tell her to keep in touch with all of us because we're all in the same boat we are planning a place and time to meet up the first night we're going to try to stick with the DIS crowd until we all get to know other people well and what not.

yup yup :) Its exciting how we have all been talking to each other and making plans to meet up in Orlando...hopefully she will join us!! :goodvibes
