We just purchased the DVC discounted tickets/special (that was advertised in the Disney magazine) for our trip in April. However, we didn't receive the 'magic bands'. :guilty: We got the traditional cards in the mail yesterday. Does anyone know if this was something we should have requested or paid extra? Anyone else have this issue? How can we get the magic bands?

MagicBands are available for free to Disney Resort Guests and Annual Passholders. Anyone else that wants one, can purchase them at WDW (starting at $12.95) or from DisneyStore.com/MagicBands

You need to order your bands from your MDE account. Your room reservation and tickets should be in your MDE account. If they aren't you need to add them yourself.

Is there a new ticket special?

You will be sent MBs a few weeks before you arrive for an on site stay at a WDW resort. MBs are linked to your MDE account. You will also link your tickets to MDE so that you can make advance FP+ reservations.

Bummer! We are DVC members and love staying on site. However, we are going with another family- their first trip, who didn't want to spend that much for this trip. So we are staying off site this trip. So, cards it is this trip!

I have several magic bands which are de-activated. If give them to a friend who is not staying on property can they be re-activated for their use?

I am assuming the answer is no, but I know someone here will have the correct answer. thanks.

Nope. Once linked to a profile, they can't be transferred to another profile.

Those magic bands are evil

Read the fine print on the box and store display, you will understand that they contain active RF transmitters. They are good for about 2 years. They will constantly send out your tracking info by radio to long range RF scanner implanted throughout the park. They even have disclaimer that if you do not wish to be tracked, you should use RFID cards, as they are passive only. They can only be detected if you bring them (ie, cards) to a close proximity of the sensors.

With magic bands, they add your ride picture automatically into your MDE Photopass section without you doing anything because the scanner is built inside the seat handle. They can track which parks and rides you go to, which restaurants you visit, and how many bathroom break you take. They can even track your walking speed and real time location. They can use surveillance camera to add your video across the park if they want to.

So essentially, the moment you step into their property, they have the ability to watch / record your every step... why would anyone allow it in the first place is a question that I always ask.

If you have any old magic bands, they should work for your upcoming trip as long as you have them activated and your tickets loaded into MDE. That is, they will work for you, not for the other family.

I don't care if they track my every move - I don't have anything to hide or be concerned with. I'm also not worried about anyone direct advertising me. I still have the ability to say no.

Frankly, if it ultimately improves things - track me wherever you want.

Think of it this way, if a child is lost, what better way to find them? And it isn't like Disney didn't track your spending habits and fast passes anyway, everytime you used your room charge or put your park ticket into the old FP machines.

Really, what could they really do with that new enhanced tracking? Assuming your cell phone is also linked to your MDE account, they can send out special pricing texts for merchandise in your area, they can design new merchandise and attractions based upon your preferences. If they know you aren't a thrill ride person, they can, in the future, custom tailor experiences on newer attractions for you. They can tell how long you actually stay in a park...in other words tell if you're an all day visitor or an early bird that heads back to the room in the afternoon. They can tell housekeeping that your not in your room, and that you normally come back to the room at 2 o'clock, so they can service it early. All of which will eventually enhance the Disney travel experience.
