disney canc'd my med cruise 3/9

It's the way it was done that has caught us all by surprise. I don't know anything about Disney cruises, but I just find it a bit off that they wouldn't communicate first and foremost with the people who have paid them money. I am really hoping for a happy ending here.

These are people, not reservation numbers. And some of these people are our friends. :sad1:

It certainly does seem to be a PR mess up (I am being conservative with my wording here)
With the power of the internet and forums such as this these days it doesn't take much for word to spread - and when it does it puts people off booking for fear of the same thing happening to them.
Hope all those affected manage to get something sorted out :grouphug:

Oh, I'm so sorry this has happened. When I was planning our cruise I saw posts on the cruise board where this had happened to others where their cruise had been cancelled for a DVC members cruise but it was more than a year out so although very disappointing for them not as catastrophic as yours as their flights, accommodation, travel etc wouldn't have been booked.

It's dreadful to do this so close to your sail date, I really feel for you.

Had you booked flights to Spain? What have they said about that?

You mean DVC booked it but I dont understand why now if they organised it last year should have booked it while ago before published it out....

If you already book hotel flights I would advise you to speak to disney cruise and they have to pay any cancel fee or change the dates etc...

Because I was thinking that something happened with us few years ago that direct holiday cancel our holiday at Crete which flight should be in Edinburgh... They changed flight from Newcastle and my sister in law wrote a letter explained that we had two little kids and turn out they gave us 500 pounds refund and we pay for trips to Newcastle...

I think disney should sort it out also give you upgrade for another dates!!!

Disney have said they will transfer us to another 7 day cruise only, no leeway on the 10/11 night cruise.

Our problem is I genuinely do not think we can do a different 7 night because of timing.

Disney have said if we cancel they will pay our flights we have paid out for, and if we change they will pay the transfer in flight costs etc.

But

That does not help us, I will be in contact with disney tomorrow again and speak to someone higher, I cannot see why they cannot allow us on the 10/11 night one with serious reductions.

I know people who booked from US not sure what happens to flights hope they get reimbused. Iwanted to do Med but flights to high.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I had hoped that DCL had stopped doing things like this, but clearly not.

I speak from experience because they did exactly the same thing to us four years ago, cancelling the Carribean cruise we'd had booked for 9 months (and had been planning and saving for two years previous). And much like yourselves, if you could make the alternative dates they offered, they were being very generous with offers of upgrades, ship credit etc, but if you couldn't (as we couldn't because my wife was unable to re-arrange her annual leave at work) then they just didn't want to know.

I sent letters and e-mails to complain, but all I got back were cookie cutter replies that took no notice of my appeals that not everyone was able to fit in with their new dates and that they'd bascially stopped us having a holiday for that year.

And what really riled me was that I also found out about the cancellation through the DISboards, and when they finally did get round to telling me, they also tried to pretend that it was "another company" that booked up the cruise, when it clearly was rescheduled as a DVC cruise - if it's another part of Disney making the booking, why didn't they reserve those dates before they were released, rather than spoiling the holidays of people who'd made the effort to book and started to look forward to going. That and the fact that they never apologised either (the nearest I got was a "we're sorry you feel this way" which are such weasel words).

It's because of this that I vowed never to deal with DCL ever again, and it shook my faith in Disney as a company for quite a while; so much so, that I did have second thoughts about booking a holiday at WDW for the year after. However, I realised that my beef was with DCL and that I'd never had bad customer service (or even below average for that matter) from any other part of the Disney corporation, so I couldn't blame the whole company for one part of it letting the rest down.

I hope that they will take more notice of you than they did me - don't let them get away with it again!

If I were you I would have presented DCL customer services with my confirmation invoice, deposit receipt, avatar and tags and insisted: MINE, MINE, MINE!!! ;)

hope you are able to get this sorted

You must be totally gutted - I know I would be. After all a Disney cruise is not just an ordinary cruise.
Hope it all works out for you:)

Just told one of my customers Disney had cancelled one of the European cruises, turned out to be the one he was going on, I knew he had booked but didn't know which sailing, he has now gone home to ring Virgin who he booked with. Wouldn't want to be whoever answers the phone.

He obviously didn't know about it then  Is this the same cruise the OP was booked on or have the cancelled a few of them?

Yes same cruise, he had no idea about it. He personally is not bothered he is not going, he doesn't like Disney or cruising but he was going home to tell his Wife and Son who will not be happy about it. Can't believe Virgin have not contacted him.

Royal Caribbean did this to us twice. Once for a China/Japan cruise where the ship got chartered by a private company. The alternatives offered weren't what we wanted (different itineraries that didn't go to Japan) so we rebooked for a cruise around South America, which they cancelled on us a few months later. The alternatives and compensation offered at that point were beyond ridiculous. We kicked up quite a stink with RC and their loyalty scheme (bearing in mind we're getting quite high up with them), but to no avail.
But it's all within their rights :sad2:
Luckily we hadn't booked flights yet.

That's what I thought, reading between the lines and hence the reason I asked. It beggars belief! That is terrible PR. When was he going to find out? When he arrived for the cruise?! :sad2: This whole thing has been handled so badly, not only by Disney but it seems by any of the agents handling the bookings are just as bad!
