Disney buying up land in Texas?

I hope this is the right place in the boards to post this question. I have confirmed information from someone at work about this. His friend owned a huge tract of land in north central Texas and the Disney Company bought it from him for several million dollars. He has the paperwork to prove this. He's already having plans made to move out of the house that's on the property within the next few years. What's going on out there? Are they planning expansion for a corporate office or is it likely that a Disneyland is in the works? Honestly, I'm not sure if this is a great idea. If a DL is in the works, I can't imagine it being all good because the traffic is already bad enough as it is most of the year. With a DL, this is even worse. I've been to Orlando and have seen how miserable it can be in the summer. I'm also wondering, am I going to have to help foot the bill with my tax dollars or is it all coming out of Mickey's own wallet?

Ever notice what the taxes are associated with travel in Florida? 13% That afford's them to not have to pay state tax and it keep's their property taxes low too .

Is this in the Dallas/Fortworth,Austin or San Antonio area?
How big was his land? 50,100,500,1000+acres?
What side of town
Tax depends if city offers any incentives but building cost should be mostly if not all disneys part.

Just my opinion, But if DL came to texas I think i would be appropriate for it to be in or around San Antonio. I'm from houston and we just lost a park 2 years ago but I think it would compliment the great parks SA alread has and may launch SA to one of the upper turists spots in the country.
They already have Sea World and Fiesta Texas. Add Disney and you have a week long family vacation. If its coming to houston great by all means, but i think it better belongs in SA.

My understanding is that the Disney company owns land in many parts of the country, and probably the world, for investment purposes. They invest just like others do and real estate is almost always a good investment especially if you have the money to buy large amounts of land that can then be sold in pieces or as a whole to someone with a large plan for the land.

The rumor has been around about Texas and Disney for YEARS but as far as I know there have never been plans for Disney to build anything here.

No. Disney is not building another US park. No matter what your cousin's aunt says, or your boss' girlfriend or your bowling buddy's sister's real estate agent. It's not going to be on that old farm outside of town, or that drive in property down the street. Nope.

all we need to prove with paper work is to know what county this land was purchased. A quick check online to the deed records would be all it would take.

Why not a Disney up here in Canada?! Sure, the weather isnt perfect, but hey! How about all those Canadians that love Disney too?! :)

About 10 years ago, Disney was rumored to be buying large amounts of acreage in the Corsicana area and also near Houston. They also supposedly had a get away area for higher ups near Athens. Nothing ever came of either of these and the rumor resurfaces every few years.

FYI, in 1993 Disney tried to build "Disney's America" in Virginia. They actually started buying land, but a historic preservation group nixed it. Since I can't post links yet, go to Wikipedia and search "Disney's America"

Yep, this has been floating around for years. Van Alstyne actually. It would be great if there were a Disney park built in Texas, but....considering the rumor is as old as my granny, I would venture to say it is only a rumor.
