Disney Buses?

Hey All,

We have not taken Disney buses for some time (we usually get a car rental), this trip we have guests who will be taking buses to various parks, etc. My question is, I understand that they now have buses from Park to Park. In the past is was only from resort to park and park to resort. Is this correct?

I think there are busses that go from park to park now, at least that's how it was in April but that just may have been due to the crowd size.

There are buses that go from park to park, but not every park. Epcot and MK connect via the monorail, and Epcot and Hollywood Studios connect via boat (but they will run buses if there is lightning/thunder and the boats cannot run - which can be frequently depending on the time of year lol). There is also the Skyliner now that will connect HS and Epcot.

There have been park-to-park buses since I started going to WDW regularly, which was in the mid 90's. MK park-to-park buses used to run to/from TTC to connect with the monorail, before the MK bus depot was expanded a few years ago.

There are no buses between MK & Epcot, since the monorail is available. There are buses between Epcot & DHS, in addition to the Friendship boats.

There are no buses from DS to the parks. There are buses from the parks to DS only after 4 pm.

Not exactly accurate. Buses between DHS and Epcot have nothing at all to do with weather. They run as a matter of course

No. And honestly, can not for the life of me figure out where this prevailing rumor comes from.
Disney sells Park Hoppers. They want guests to go from park to park easily so they can sell as many Hoppers as possible. So they have always gotten guests from park to park via bus, boat, monorail, something. Something serves each park directly from another park. It's common sense. At least I thought it was. But clearly, this rumor will not go away. So it can't be as common as I thought.

Yep, it's the Resorts that are usually serviced via boat that get buses during bad weather.

Because a long time ago they did not offer park to park buses. So they haven't "always gotten guests by bus from park to park".

In fact if they used to charge a $2 transportation fee if you wanted to go from the TTC to Epcot my monorail and you were not a WDW resort guest. The $2 fee also applied to other transportation options back then.

I have been going to WDW since before it opened. The AAU building on Hotel Blvd was the preview center while they were building the Magic Kingdom, the Poly, the Contemporary, the monorail, etc.

Nope, always. I'm not talking about what happens with non Resort guests way back in the day. Just addressing that the service was there. Well, ever since there's been more than 1 park. Obviously, it goes without saying (or should) that there was no park to park bus when there was no park to go to.

Not in the last 30+ years. Do you have a source for this? Pictures of this fee being collected? The logistics of paying such a fee?

Actually, it would be since there have been more than 2 parks. The first 2 parks were and are serviced by monorail.

ETA: IIRC, service between Epcot & MGM used to be via a tram loading at IG. I don't know whether they also had buses between the 2 back then.

ETA2: The Epcot Skyliner station was built on the former tram loading area.

I've seen the coupons they used to give to Resort guests to use for transportation so they had SOMETHING. No idea about charges though, having been too young

I did read in one of Corey Sandler's Econoguide travel books, ca 1987, "Disney quietly sells a transportation only ticket for [two dollars and change]." There was no elaboration on rationale or method of collection.

Not exactly related to a charge for transportation was the "transportation ticket" on the front of pre-1982 Disney ticket books, the kind with D tickets, E tickets, etc. for individual rides contained within. The "two day ticket book" had two transportation tickets in front, etc. (After you surrendered the transportation ticket for the initial monorail or ferry ride, they used hand stamps for guests exiting and then returning the same day,)

As I said, they provided SOME sort of transportation between parks from the time there was more than 1 park. Never said bus only anyway.

And as I said in my reply BUSSES between theme parks were not always offered. I didn't refer to monorails or boats, as the OP asked about buses between parks.

The original question was...

You said no and then went on how you don't understand how this rumor was started. It started because at one time it wasn't a rumor but a fact that they did not have buses between parks

In addition how it worked was there was a separate ticket booth at the foot of the monorail loading ramps where you could buy the transportation ticket.

So? You want to limit it to buses fine. The bottom line then is from the time they started to have buses to parks they've had buses between parks. So where is your disconnect here?

And the bigger point is they have always gotten you between parks SOME how. Sure, the OP asked about buses but sometimes there are other ways between the parks and heaves if your only goal is to get between parks then why on earth does the method Disney offers you to use to get there matter?

Yep they did. Until the early 80’s the Walt Disney Transportation Company required a separate ticket to use the monorail and I think other transportation. There are pictures of the tickets online. And at one point, I think into the 90’s only resort guests could use the resort launch, you had to show your room key card.
