Disney Breastfeeding policy

Does anyone know if Disney has a breastfeeding in public policy? My DW and I are headed down during Thanksgiving with our DD 3 and our DS (he will be 2 1/2 months). My wife is still breastfeeding and we know of the baby centers they have, but was curious if there is a policy that says she can't just sit on a bench and feed if need be. I can't imagine any CM's saying something, but if there is a stated policy then I would rather know about beforehand and not cause a scene. If my wife had the proper blankets and attire, it would be much more convenient to feed whereever we were at rather than hike back to the baby center to feed each time.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

HI Ryan-

I have breastfed two of our 3 children there! Once on trip with our 6 month old in Dec 2000, and this January with our 17 month old.

No problem what so ever! Since breast feeding is legal, they wouldn't say anything. There are some outdoor areas that are more discreet to nurse:

The area in Adventureland by the entrance to Swiss Family tree house is quiet and shaded.

The waiting area by the entrance to Space Mountain is a little hidden.

Just look for out of the way areas if you want more privacy.

Don't worry about it at all- I never even got any funny looks. This is place where most of the people have had children and shouldn't be too uncomfortable seeing someone nursing.

The nursing staion is near the entrance of the park so it may not be convenient to run there to nurse.

Have a great trip!

That is great to hear! I didn't think people would a problem either, but sometimes you hear those horror stories about people being asked to go somewhere else. And the last thing I wanted to do on our family vacation was to make a story for the headlines.

Also, thanks for all of the great tips on places to go. Those will come in very handy.

Thanks again and have fun on your "all girls" trip (saw it on your signature)!

Your wife will have no problem. Disney is very friendly. Anyway, most states have laws protecting the rights of nursing mothers. A breastfeeding mom is legally allowed to nurse her child in any public space she is allowed to be in.

We've had lots of great discussions on breastfeeding at Disney with lots of wonderful suggestions and tips. Just do a search of the family board for the word breastfeeding and you should find them.

We took my little guy when he turned one and he nursed all around the world, literally - rides, shows, restaurants, busses, park benches. We never had a problem. I'm taking him back in December and he will be 20 months old. He's still nursing a lot and I'm looking forward to doing another "Nursing Around The World" tour.

Personally, I never cover up with a blanket or anything. I find it too hot and it always annoyed my little one. When Paul is nursing, you can't see anything but the back of his head. Your wife should, of course, do whatever makes her most comfortable. But, tell her not to feel like she has to cover up with a blanket or anything - unless she just wants to. Also, if she hasn't had much practice nursing in public, suggest that she try nursing sitting in front of a mirror at home. That ways she can see what is visible (which won't be much) and it might help her worry less about it.

We never nursed in any of the baby care centers. They are nice, but they were always way too far to walk back to when Paul wanted to nurse. You'll have no trouble finding plenty of nice places, though.

Have fun!

I would encourage you to either search up those threads or start a new one about good places to breastfeed - particularly if your wife prefers discretion. There are plenty of "out of the way spots" - including some more dedicated spots in ladies rooms (I never liked feeding my daughter in a bathroom), but they can be hard to find when baby is crying and you are in the middle of letdown if you don't know where to look.

I asked this question 2 months ago, here is the thread....Locations for feeding(nursing) babies?

Enjoy your trip!!!

Just want to offer you my support as I nursed my babies at Disney and NEVER had a problem.

My #1 favorite place was on the TTA in Magic Kingdom. Long, slow, dark and relaxing.

Like many others I found lots of other semi-private places to nurse. I even nursed during shows like Festival of the Lion King and I don't think anyone even noticed - my husband included because he asked me after the show when I was going to feed the baby! If your wife is discreet no one will notice/mind!

Have a great trip!!!

My baby is 6 months old and breastfed. We go to the parks frequently. My baby is easily distracted by other people, so I'm always looking for a quiet place to nurse. The baby center at AK is the nicest. The nursing room is a private room with 1 rocker and a changing table. MGM's is also private, but is more like a dressing room. Both Mk's and Epcot's have several women in the same area. My baby is so nosy that he's rather check out who's in there, than do his business. I've found that at Epcot, that the movies at France and American adventure were of perfect length to nurse. This summer, our biggest concern was getting him out of the summer heat to nurse. So while dh and ds(10) were in line for rides, I scoped out areas that were airconditioned and somewhat private. Only once did anyone notice that I was nursing. That was a CM who came over to talk to me. He talked for a bit, then noticed the baby was nursing not sleeping. He turned a million shades of red and apologized for coming over to us. I even had someone ask me to trade pins with them when I was nursing. That person also thought the baby was sleeping. And never noticed I was nursing him.

I too BF DD the first trip and she was 15mos and I will do the same with DS on this trip, he will be 13mos. I nursed in public but at this stage in the game, I will be finding a quieter place as DS likes to check everything out  The baby centers are great and it will be a great way for you and your other child to relax too.

I say nurse whereever your baby gets hungry.

Personally, as a mother of 6, I'd much rather see a woman breastfeeding her baby than giving it a bottle.

I've nursed almost anyplace you can think of (except restrooms, fitting rooms, and moving cars) and as long as you're descreet, most people don't know what's up.

Have a safe, fun trip. And be glad you don't have to tote bottles and formula around.

I'll be looking for those quiet places also to nurse on our upcoming Feb. trip. DS just turned 2 months and seems easily distracted while nursing. He pulls off to see whats going on and then wants back on. I know I'll need places without alot happening so he can eat. I like the TTA idea alot!

Our DS has the same distraction problem and also, we like the TTA idea as well. I want to thank everyone for all of the support and suggestions. We will definitely be checking these places out. And the past threads really came in handy as well. Thanks again.

I just got back from WDW and I noticed someone BF in line for the Pooh ride. I didn't notice anyone giving her a bad look. Just have DW do what feels comfortable.
