Disney Begins Pre-Sales for Luxury Residential Development

It seems like an odd time to build/market such upscale homes. With some many homes going unsold it doesnt seem like a strong business case? I guess there are always some folks with enough $$ to make it worthwhile?

... is this in the same location as the once-announced-then-cancelled Eagle Pines DVC resort?

Yes, it is. I believe that when the Four Seasons resort was announced they indicated that there would be full and fractional ownership interests as part of the project.

I wonder how they are getting around the rule of no one "living" on Disney property and having voting rights in the Reedy Creek District?

I believe it was de-annexed, as was Celebration. As announced the owners will not be sitting on a land lease. They will have full ownership rights.

For foreign owners with a favorable exchange rate?

I can't quite put my finger on why, but I don't like it. And it's not just because I don't have a spare couple million to plunk down for one, I just don't like the idea.

I don't like it. I wonder where kids will go to school as I'm not sure where the closest schools exist, and whether we'll see school busses going through WDW property? There's something very un-magical about having a housing development in this location.---Kathy

You probably don't like the idea because it goes against the values of the old Disney where Walt didn't cater to a certain class of people.

Todays Disney will do what ever they can to make a buck.

Not to change the point of my thread, but; why is it we don’t get Florida Resident status being DVC members? I have never thought of that. :confused3

Our DVC contracts specifically stated that DVC ownership does not create a residence status in Florida for owners. On a more general note, vacation timeshares don't provide residence status since most states require more than 6 months presence in the state to be considered a resident.

Kathy, that is a really good point. Disney is for vacationing, and should be exempt from reminders of real life. :rotfl:

I don't know how I feel about this. Walt bought all that land so that they could create all kinds of parks/entertainment/recreation for families. I wonder how he would feel about a section of it being dedicated to the super wealthy and their palatial estates.

DH just said the same exact thing. I think it is very sad and does deter from Walt's dream. The estates will be purchased by the elite - just because they can and as a novelty. I'm sure they will remain empty a majority of the year. What's next? WDW Ferry rides of the rich and famous?

This is not a DVC related discussion, as is the critera for the DVC Boards, so I need to close. There is already a thread running about this on he Rumors and News board, where you may continue if you wish.
