I know there is a Disney barber shop on Main Street--is it rather packed? My friend is thinking of having her 16 month old get his first hair cut at disney, and I will have my 18 month old if I can hold off that long... is it usually crowded?

If you can get there right as it opens it should not be too crowded. The shop is right next to the emporium store on the left.

Crowds are fairly hit or miss. It's our traditional to get our boys haircut there at every visit. We've been all times of day from opening to closing. Sometimes it's busy, sometimes it's not. I personally believe any wait we've ever had has been well worth it.

They don't take appointments, strickly first come basis.
When dd had her hair cut last May, there were 2 CMs cutting hair. We only had one adult ahead of us, so we waited about 15 min. The CM said it was much busier early in the day. We were there about 4pm.

We got DS first haircut done there on his first birthday. Here is the line we stood in.

It took us about 45 minutes to an hour. We waited until later in the afternoon to do this. I read on the dis that around parade time is a good time to go. Well on this particular day it was not, but we waited in line anyway. I think it is hit our miss. Even the workers in the in shop said it was an unusually long line.

The wait was long and hot. There are a couple seat inside, but this day it was out the door, so I stood in line and DH had DS in the stroller napping in the shade. The sun was beating down on me and there was no breeze. DS woke up about 5 minutes before his turn so it worked out perfectly!

Just wondering, can i take my DD to the barbershop or is it strickly for boys only? Would love to have my DD have her first haircut at Disney...but paying for BB boutique is abit overprices for us.

Definately take her! It is for everyone. Make sure to tell them it is her first haircut or they usually ask... She will get Mickey ears that say "First Haircut" on the back and a certificate. Michal even wrapped up ALL of DS's hair clippings along with some pixie dust for us to keep.

wow thanks that sounds awesome think the DD will really love having all that attention and colors in her hair for the day... :goodvibes

This is so sweet. Thanks for posting pictures. Maybe I'll get my ds and dd's hair cut.

Those pictures are great, but I'm not sure I would wait in line for that! Though I love the little hat and the pixie dust mixed in with the hair.

What age do they start cutting hair? We're thinking about doing this with DS, who has a lot of hair, but he'll only be 9 months. Opinions?

It depends on your kid...Do you think he will be able to sit in the chair? I think it depends on the temprament of your child. Maybe bring something he can hold while sitting in the chair to keep him busy and in one place.

Normally I don't think I would have waited in a line that long either, but I wanted to have his 1st haircut on his first birthday. It was already late in the day because I had waited until 3:00 parade time (about 2:30) to head over on the advise that the line would be storter then. I wasn't sure what time they closed and I wasn't sure if the lines would even get shorter if I waited until later. Since it was important to me to have it done that day we waited. And hey we got to see the parade for there!

They have stickers and toys for the kids to hold and play with while they cut their hair. No need to get your stuff full of hair. (Although I don't think Michal dropped one piece of hair on DS, he is very good) The first time we got DS's hair cut Michal took a minute to kind of make friends with DS touching his hair just to kind of get him used to it so it didn't jump away when he had scissors in his hands. :scared1: He then put stickers all over DS. That kept DS busy pulling them off and giving them to me. He didn't even pay any attention to the person cutting his hair.

They are very good with the kids.

Alright. Then we'll see how he's doing closer to that time to decide. He can currently sit pretty much unassisted, and we've still got 4 months until the trip, so hopefully...

I LOVE this picture! He looks so "... What?"

Alright, sounds good! :)

did your son have a lot of hair??? My DD will be 8 months and doesn't really have a lot, I can't put a pig tail or anything in maybe a clip to make it go off to the side. I really want to do this, but it may be silly when she doesn't have anything to clip.

Oh - it was his first birthday too! how great! With my first son we made sure to have his hair cut on his first birthday - but with this one, since we'll be in Disney just 4 months later I might wait for the big cut to happen in Magic Kingdom.
It might be something we just try - of course if I let his hair get long for this trip I might insist on getting it cut.

DS#2 and DS#3 were born needing haircuts. DS#2 got his first (and very over due) haircut at WDW at 7 months. He was just barely sitting up. He didn't cooperate at all, no matter what they did, so it wasn't much of a cut, but it was done. So what if I had to take him to the children's salon a week later for "bigger" cut? It was worth it all, and they didn't charge us full price since they knew it wasn't much of a cut. He didn't cooperate at the children's salon either (until he was 3), but they were more used to it.
