Disney bans kids from restaurant!!!

I would really rather see tougher rules enforced about behavior -for both adults and kids.

I don't have a problem with that! :yay:

Could you imagine though the screaming rage the parents would fly into if a CM told them they had to leave the restaurant? Remember...they "paid good money" and all. No WAY will Disney ever do this. I agree with you that they should, but I think it would cause more problems than there are now.

You REALLY have a problem with one or two restaurants offering adult only hours in the evening a night or two during and entire week?????????????
yes, at a resort restaurant I do.

If Disney wants to build a new adults only restaurant that doesn't remove dining options currently offered to hotel guests, I have no problem with that.

I had several "adult" meals on our last trip where we traded off babysitting with our friends and my mom...there were kids at all the signature dining places we went to without our own children (even later in the evening) and we never had a problem with their behavior.

I for one would like to know EXACTLy where you went. It sounds like you are saying that every single child was a perfectly behaved angel at the restaurants you went to. I would like to make ADR's at those restaurants if they are so quiet.

I just dont' see how asking for that is selfish or anti-child and not a thing you can say will convince me otherwise. Not even quoting Walt...whatever the heck that was for...

The signature restaurants in the reosrts are by no means restricted to the use of only the people who are "paying good money" to stay in said resort. The folks at the All-Stars have every right and access to those places too, so your argument hold zero water.

That said, I will agree to disagree with you. you want kids all the time everywhere and that's fine. i think there should be options, you don't. I'm fine with Disney's decision...you may not be. but it is what it is I suppose.

I'm with you on this. We have an 8 yo so we eat around 6pm anyway. Having adult only seatings on a rotating basis after 7:30 or so wouldn't bother me in the least. Some of the issues people see from child at 8pm or so might be alleviated by parents having dinner earlier anyway.

This statement makes me wonder if maybe in some cases what people consider a well-behaved child. I agree the children out of their seat, in other diner's space, and screaming nonstop should be removed from restaurant. On the other hand a child does not have to be a perfect angel to be well behaved.

I truly don't understand this mentality that just because it's Disney, everthing MUST include all children. In the same way that small children are not allowed to ride every ride, Disney feels it is not appropriate for young children to be in their V&A dining room, where obviously they have had complaints. But, remember your children are not kept out forever. Before you know it, your children will grow up and suddenly be the age that is allowed. At that point you may feel very differently when it's no longer your precious who is squirming, fidgeting, throwing and whining at the table next to you. My youngest is now 13 (seems like yesterday she was 6 and dancing at Chef Mickey's) and I know my family would welcome the option of a few restaurants having later seating for older kids and adults only - we count as Disney families too.

.

Uh oh...now we agree about something...I would be in favor of building an adult only restaurant. One that would be adult only from the get-go as well. But I think we'd run into people who were angry that they couldn't "try" the new place because they have kids with them.

I'm not terribly concerned about where an adult only restaurant would/could be placed (resort, parks, DTD). Though I think resorts makes more sense since the parks close early during certain times, or for private events. Again, places outside the parks are available for anyone to enjoy whether they are a WDW resort guest or even have park tickets. My cousin lives in Deltona and often goes to the resorts with his wofe and kids for dinner.

If it's a written policy, and it's made clear to the parents BEFORE they choose to make an ADR or enter-then they can scream all that they want. People scream about rules all day long, but it doesn't mean that they shouldn't be enforced.

Remember that incident with the airline that threw the family with the tantruming 3 year old OFF the plane?? Remember how many people sided with the airline??

I've been at a couple of dinners where throwing a family out would generate applause from enough people to offset the whining of the ousted family.

Children are kept off rides for safety/legal reasons...apples to oranges.

I don't think that kids need to be allowed everywhere, btw, but your example isn't applicable.

I agree...but I'm saying that shrieking dad's (or mom's) LIVID over being kicked out would create more of an obnoxious problem than their screaming kids would. That story about the kidon the plane I remember.

I thought about this too. Disney decides to build a new restaurant. They put it in a deluxe resort. They say right off the bat that it is 18 and older. (Just like Palo on DCL). It is built as the new HOT restaurant for adults. The people that say they don't care will probably now care very much that there is a new adult only restaurant. 97 resturants and it is a problem that 1 (or possibly 2) are adult only. Seems a bit one-sided to me.

oh and PS :)

"That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up. They forget. They don’t remember what it’s like to be twelve years old. They patronize; they treat children as inferiors. I won’t do that. I’ll temper a story, yes. But I won’t play down, and I won’t patronize."

-Walt Disney
It should also be remembered that Walt and Lillian Disney used to go on vacation without their children, go to Europe without their children, and (yes) even spend quiet dinners at upscale restaurants without their children. Walt and Lillian knew the value of quiet adult time. Perhaps that's why they stayed married until the day Walt died and their girls turned out to be well-behaved, respectful, delightful assets to society.

Can't please 'em all for sure. I'll still go to Disney (complaint free) no matter what they do. I can always make lemonade outta lemons.

Unfortunately, no matter what Disney does (or doesn't do) there's always going to be someone complaining. It's just the nature of a vacation destination of that magnitude.

I'm sorry if I was not clearer, I really meant that not all rides are recommended or appropriate for all children and that is why many rides have signs that say "may be too intense for small children." But, many parents insist their kids can handle that too and so you'd always see a number of kids crying after Snow White's Scary Adventures or Alien Encounter. I just see Disney's plan for V&A to be along the same lines. Based on past experience (and most likely complaints), they instituted this age-appropriate policy and I, for one, don't see anything wrong with it.

Narcosse's (7:50ADR), Jiko's (7:20ADR), and the Yachtman (6:50 ADR)

There were kids at all of these restaurants within 2-3 tables of us.

Well, except that the hotel guest has just as much right to that restaurant to anyone else visiting Disney. No tables are held for hotel guests so it's really not a "perk" of staying at that hotel. Convenient? Yes, but not a perk.

I agree. And to tell you the truth, I just don't notice other patrons that much (unless there is a disturbance.) I just picture all these people sitting around at V&A mentally criticizing the other patrons - rotten kids, yucky clothes, ugly woman. I am guessing that the ambiance they are looking for is a room full of people who are "just like them." Yuck.

Oh, and I'd love to go back and replace the word "child" with "Brazilian" in some of these posts, and see if that changes anything for people.

Edited to fix the "quote."
