Anyone know any inside scoop on the new Disney/Bank One credit card, set to debut in March? I got this offline, but I'm curious about what type of "rewards" on what types of "merchandise" and "vacations" they will offer. Anyone know?

"Philip Heasley, chairman of Bank One’s credit card division, said, “Creating a Disney-branded Visa card with Disney rewards delivers on Bank One’s strategy of associating with the world’s best brands. We will help provide Disney families and fans with the opportunity to enjoy Disney vacations and merchandise as their reward for using the card. We believe the Disney-branded Visa credit card, with its world-renowned branding and attractive Disney rewards, will be immensely popular with families and other Disney fans when it is launched next year.”

...
Initially, the card will be offered only in the U.S. and The Walt Disney Company will promote and reward its usage through its domestic businesses. Customers may accrue rewards from all purchases on the card at any of Visa’s 24 million acceptance locations worldwide. Monthly statements will provide exclusive Disney promotions for card members, and the latest Disney news and updates on rewards earned.

DISNEY-VISA ALLIANCE FACTS-AT-A-GLANCE

Visa and Disney have entered a multi-year global corporate alliance that will create marketing initiatives benefiting Visa’s 21,000 worldwide Members and millions of merchants.

Visa will work with Disney to create marketing programs across all Disney properties, including Disney’s media properties (ABC-TV, ESPN, ABC Family, SoapNet and ABC Radio Networks) and Internet properties; exclusive Visa card promotions with Disney resorts in the United States and France; and, exclusive promotions with The Disney Stores and Disney stage productions such as “The Lion King” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Concurrently, Bank One – a Visa Member bank – has entered a partnership with Disney to create the first-ever Disney-branded Visa card, which will enable consumers to earn rewards points that may be used for the purchase of Disney theme park vacations, videos and other merchandise."

Just last night I was on the phone with CRO inquiring about packages in order for us to look into what was best for us. Even when I asked the CM if it would rather be best to wait two more weeks to see what the rewards of the new card will be, she still tried to sell me the package last night :rolleyes:

We decided booking everything separately taking advantage of AP & DC discounts here and there and using our rewards awards is still the best choice for us.

So, my point is, even as of last night it was tight shut secrecy what that card has to offer. Knowing Disney's past "surprising" trends, I only hope it is darn well worth the wait and it won't be just a strategy to make people sign up "en masse" with the anxiety of the wait.

Disney has played thiose tricks in the past and gotten people to go crazy over hideous looking collectibles and items, just building up the anxiety of the wait. Then many compulsive guests were regreting the purchase. Just make sure you take it easy and evaluate everything. Applying for too many credit cards does not look great in your record in the eyes of some agencies.

The last thing I heard was that part of the rewards program will be 1% of purchase amount in what equates to disney dollars that you can use on vacations, in the stores and so forth. Not sure what else they will have. It also applies to balance transfers from what I hear.

This is what is from the www.disneysecret.com website. They started taking applications today.

I think this is the info every one is looking for as far as the rewards go--it looks like you have to spend $100 to get 1 reward dollar:

1 Subject to credit approval. You will earn one (1) Disney Dream Reward DollarSM for every one hundred (100) dollars in net purchases, up to a maximum of 750 Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on $75,000 in net purchases in a calendar year. You will not earn Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on balance transfers, cash advances, convenience checks, unauthorized charges, finance charges accrued on your account balances, or fees on products which protect or insure the balances of your account or fees of any kind. Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM will accrue only when your Disney credit card account is in good standing. The Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM will have to be transferred to a designated card or certificate before they can be redeemed. Redemption is allowed only for designated Disney merchandise or services at participating Disney locations. Additional Program Terms and Conditions apply and will be provided to you with your Disney's Visa Card once you become a Cardmember. Program Terms and Conditions may be modified and services and benefits may be added or deleted at any time without notice to Cardmembers

think I'll keep my old card :rolleyes:

If it doesn't apply to balance transfers, then I believe I will pass. Otherwise it will take forever to build up anything worthwhile.

Thanks for the more detailed information! Spending $100 to get $1 in Disney Rewards Dollars doesn't seem that great.

However, if you have a card that doesn't offer any rewards, then this could be an option.:rolleyes:

Spending $100 to get $1? This is the 'wonderful' replacement for the Disney Club that Disney has been talking about for months now? :rolleyes:

I don't recall reading anything official about the Disney Visa card replacing the Disney Club.:earsgirl:

That reward sounds so miserable it is hardly believable.

That is what we all understood, being it a fact that memberships renewed prorated to the end of the year...

Miserable, absolutely not even worth it...

I was being a little sarcastic there. Disney never said specifically that the Disney Visa program was an actual physical replacement for the club, but they really promoted it that way. Saying things like we are elimating the club but offering something new (and better) and it will be a rewards style program. Something along those lines. I actually saved the email that they mailed me, just don't have it here.

Thank you to all for your detailed info about the card! I had been hoping to transfer my balance into Disney rewards points that would actually mean something, but it doesn't look like that's the case. Guess I should just pay that bad boy off, and keep my miles card. Bummer.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
did anyone notice this little tidbit? only designated services and locations, blah, blah, blah...I wonder what the restrictions will be?
And on top of it all, limited to $750 a year provided you spend $75,000! Is that $75,000 on Disney merchandise and services? Have they gone mad?
Apparently they still think they can afford to be so stingy when it comes to pampering their guests...
I'm pretty sure that they mean $75,000 in overall purchases.
After digging in a little more, here is what I have found...
Earn 1% or more in Disney Dream Reward Dollars.SM
You'll earn Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM equal to 1% on purchases charged to your Disney's Visa® card. Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM may be redeemed for most Disney merchandise, park tickets, hotel nights, food and more at Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts - including theme parks, and Disney Cruise Line®, Disney Store, Disney catalog and DisneyStore.com. This looks a little more encouraging. Why don't we wait to find out all the details or what kind of "special offers" will be available before we start blasting the card. What, did we all expect that we'd get a disney dollar for every dollar spent??? They're not idiots.
Actually, their terms are not very different from other "rewards" credit cards. Most offer only a 1% rebate on purchases (American Express offers up to 5% but that is only if you carry a balance...then the interest alone negates anything you earn). Some programs offer points that can be redeemed for gift certificates or frequent flier miles for air travel. None will reward for balance transfers.
As far as it taking a very long time to get just one Rewards Dollar, keep in mind that if you use that credit card to pay for EVERYTHING (and I do mean everything), then you can easily rack up $2K or more in monthly in charges. That would be the equivalent of 20+ Rewards Dollars.
I have another rewards card that I'm currently using. I charge the kids' doctor visits, groceries, gasoline, clothing, electric bill, oil bill, telephone bill. If it can go on my MasterCard, I charge it. I keep very careful records, save all receipts and make sure that the money is always there to pay off any charge before I make that charge. I also pay it off in full as soon as the bill arrives. I've gotten over $150 in rebates since October. It has cost me nothing to do this and the $$$ goes into my WDW fund.
I will apply for the Disney VISA b/c :
  • I need a VISA card (I have a MC and Discover)
  • They are offering special vacation incentives to cardholders.(I'm guessing that they'll be similar to the old AmEx vacation benefits.)
  • It has no annual fee.and it's been a awhile since I've applied for a new card, I'm at least going to try it out. I can always cancel it later if I get dissatisfied with it.
  • Until I join, I won't know the full details of the benefits. I'm not ready to dismiss this as a worthless venture.
Just my 2¢.
1% may be the norm for non co-branded card arrangements like Discover and others, but usually co-branded loyalty type cards tend to offer a little more if you are purchasing items from the co-branded merchant. For example if you had a Shell Mastercard, you would get 1% from all purchases except when you bought Shell Gasoline and then you would get 5%. This is more along the lines of what I would have personally liked to have seen from this card. Oh well, I guess 1% is better than nothing, but there are other cards out there that offer equal or better benefits. I guess it all depends on what kind of 'special offers' they make. I will probably get this card, check it out and then make a decision.
I too think that I will get this card to get the pin, the special card, and to see what other things they have to offer me.
I just applied!! It said that I would be notified by postal mail within 30 days. I hope I get the card before our trip in May!!!
I'm excited about this card because we've pretty much bought out L.L. Bean with our rewards from that card, so I'm looking forward to something new (especially if it's Disney!!)
