After watching the Disney Christmas parade yesterday morning, I am wanting to go to Disney during Christmas more than ever. Cost wise - is it cheaper than going during the summer or more expensive? Thanks!:wave2:

annie2871, it is somewhat hard to answer your question precisely. But, here are some general thoughts.

The main difference is in the price of the lodging. Generally speaking, the cost of lodging is higher during Christmas week until the first week in January.
If you shop early and intelligently, you can get very good selection on lodging during Christmas week.

Both summer and Christmas seasons have their pluses. If you want to come to swim, of course, summer is better. If you want to see the very great Christmas decorations, then that is the season for you.

Hope this starts to help you begin your decision making.

We were there last year at the Holidays. Hopefully, will make it next year for Christmas, too.

I noticed that if you put in Dec 19, 2004 to Dec..whatever, you get the lower rate, not the holiday rate for rooms.

I am going to keep my eyes open for codes.
Last year we only spent 4 nights at POR, got our tickets for the parks and for five of us it is $1300. The way it is looking for next year, it is double the price.

After a week with our home filled with LOTS of relatives, this morning my hubby said " We are going to Disney next Christmas, I don't want to ever deal with this again!" ha ha! So I am on the horn Monday to schedule another trip. YIPEE! :Pinkbounc

Funny...those are my feelings too!

Have fun planning that trip, I know I am!

Christmas at Disney is a very special busy time.
The cost is more for the resorts, but I have only been to Disney in off season to compare this too.. But it's worth every penny to be at the most magical place for Christmas.
Now be prepared for a lot of crowds. If you can make it the a little longer trip and get there before the cost goes up you can keep the lower rate the whole time you are there.
We went Dec 12-26th 2002 and we had the valued rate the whole time.. I believe the year we went the cut off date was the 20th.

Too funny.. I told my dh at the beginning of Dec that I already missed being at WDW. If I can make it happen we will go from here on out to Disney for Christmas. I know I will be there next year..

Since there are so many of us thinking of going next Christmas, maybe we can meet up at MK!

That sounds like fun too me..
We will be on the DCL until the 18th of Dec.

annie2871,

Keep in mind, the Christmas parade at WDW that airs on TV Christmas morning with the celeberties is actually taped during the first week in December. Not Christmas week.

We will have to stay in touch. We will be watching for LOWER rates... but at least we have a room set just in case. The CS said that there are always offers, just to keep our eyes peeled :0)

We stayed Dec 8 - 16 of this year. Crowds were small, weather good, and decorations were beautiful. Already planning for next year @ the Dolphin.

Rates do go up substantially for the week between Christmas and New Years. My advice - go in early Dec. Get all the advantages of Christmastime at Disney with small crowds and good rates!

We were there December 20-26 it was great. We are going next year with 15. No one else in the trip as ever been to DisneyWorld. I am having fun planning the trip. We are staying at Pop Century again.

I was there Dec 15-21 and it was magical! The first part of the week the parks were EMPTY! Walk on the rides, no lines - the weather turned chilly, it was about 30 something degrees Tuesday night for the MVMCP, and the "fake" snow seemed real because I was bundled up, enjoying he hot chocolate and sugar cookies. By Friday and Saturday, I could see that the crowds were beginning to gather, but by then I had done almost everything I wanted.

Check the rates and dates to see when the Value season ends -- if you check in before the seasons change, your whole stay is at the Value rate -- if you could work it so you begin in the Value season, you can save a lot of money on your accommodations.
