Disney Annual Passes

How many people from the UK buy an Annual Pass for Disney and do you think they are good value?
Personally we are going twice within the same year and I can't see any disadvantage to them apart from the original outlay.
Also, do you have to have a photo to buy the pass at the partks or is a photo not necessary?

We buy a Premium Annual Pass(PAP) and go twice within the same year - and what a bargain it is

A photo is not needed. When you first activate them you have a finger print scan and the is how they identify it is yours. If at sometime your scan doesn't work you will need photo id - we usually carry out picture driving license with us.

We also buy PAPs and go twice within the 12 months the passes are valid (although in 2004/05 we might go three times!). We think annual passes are the best value for money ticket you can buy if you intend to visit Orlando more than once. Not only do you get complete flexibility to visit any park at any time but you are also eligible for AP discounts, especially AP rates at on-site hotels.

We also buy annual passes to Universal, which we think are even better value for money than Disney's APs.

We also buy APs for both Disney and Universal. One minor disadvantage is that they do expire, whereas unused days on Hoppers don't. This occured to me following our January trip. Although we had taken two trips in a year, we didn't visit the parks nearly as much this time. Still, I have bought APs even in years when we've only managed one trip, and will continue to do so, purely for the flexibility.

A small point of clarification on the photo ID - you <b>do</b> need it when you purchase the passes, but not when you use them. As Kaylee says, photo ID is required to verify the passes if for some reason the biometric device fails, although we have never been asked to produce it.

Yes....we too have used APs last six or seven trips. Current APs were purchased in September and will be used again come July.

When we used multi day tickets many ago there was always a feeling that you had to be at the Parks all day on any day you visited at all....in order to maximise the value. Nowadays with APs (giving free parking) there are days when we may only visit a park for an hour or two....altogether more relaxing

We have also purchased Universal APs and, as has already been said, these are a real bargain. We purchased ours online just before Xmas 2002 (only activated them in Oct 03) at the Special Offer of buy one, get one half price. The off peak Universal AP is a steal at $99.95 plus tax currently. Black out dates are minimal - largely peak season weekends. See Universal AP

Can I clear up one thing UKDEB, you do NOT need photo ID when purchasing an AP. We purchased ours last Saturday at Epcot and all I was asked for was proof of my address which I duly gave by showing my drivers licence (which is not one of the photo ones).

At no time was I asked for photo ID.

A couple of days later the card plus my fingers print did not work at one of the entrances. A CM asked for ID so I showed him my drivers licence. He must have been a new boy because a lady came along hit a couple of buttons which moved the card through the slot and made the boy go and work on the exit gate.

In all the years we have been going to Disney we have never been asked for photo ID.

Maybe we just struck lucky with Kate who served us with our AP at Epcot - I don't think so.

Grumpy John should now be called Minnie as that's whats on his AP. The girl who sold them to us got mixed up and I got the Mickey.

Only time we have been asked for any extra ID was at one of the many Publix supermarkets as backup to our credit card - to protect me from credit card fraud was the reason. We didnt have any ID and still got our shopping - no problem.

Also noticed that Goodings at the Crossroads have a note that says that for all credit card transactions photo ID is to be produced. Another reason not to use Goodings apart from the rip-off prices.

But I must agree with Grumpy John (as I do have to live with him and he is not really Grumpy) is that we have never been asked for photo ID at the parks.

Did notice that there was lots of Grumpy merchandise in the store this time though - last trip we couldnt find anything much. Last week Grumpy was in abundance, Tshirts, magnets, softies, etc.,

As you might guess I have just got back and am still thinking Disney which didn't go down too good at work today but never mind perhaps the mind will be on the job tomorrow.

Well on the three occasions our AP didn't work we were asked for ID which they studied closely.

Be prepared and take it just uncase, imagine getting to the park and them not letting you in because you don't have photo id

For all you passholders, did you buy your AP/PAP's on-line or did you wait tilll you got to DisneyWorld? We're not going till next year, but with exchange rate being so good (yes I remember the days of only 1.34), we didn't know whether to buy them now.

It's no longer possible to buy APs or PAPs online from the UK. If you want to buy in advance, you'll need to phone.

As the starter of this thread I thought I'd let you know that having just returned from WDW and using our APs, we were VERY surprised how few people we spoke to from the States knew about APs and what remarkable value they are with all the special perks and discounts. My son and daughter loved the special AP holder pins they could buy and add to their fast growing collections!

I repeat again, if you intend visiting the parks within the same 12 months you'll be mad not to buy an Annual Pass!

we'll definitely be indulging as we've bought Universal APs as they are doing buy one year get a year free which obviously means we'll be going back in 2005 and 2006 so a Disney AP sounds ideal!

Where is the best place to buy them?

We are staying in POR in May and intend getting prem APs.

Should we pay with credit card or travellers cheque and how long does it take, will we have to q for a while or is there a special entrance or ticket office
