ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Walt Disney Co. is giving one of the most recognizable figures in America, Mickey Mouse, a marketing makeover, according to Local 6 News.
Disney plans to announce a series of Mickey Mouse postage stamps, comic books and a daily comic strip aimed at elevating Mickey's profile.
Disney also is launching Mickey's PhilarMagic, a new attraction, at Walt Disney World in Orlando in December and releasing two new direct-to-video movies, including a new 3D version of the mouse next year.
The company faces a core audience that keeps getting younger, shrinking the pool of potential consumers, as the competition grows.
Disney officials hope Mickey's more modern image will make him popular with a new generation of consumers.
The famed icon has already appeared on HBO's hit "Sex and the City" show -- seen on a T-shirt worm by Sarah Jessica Parker.
