Disney and MHP question

So I am going to disney, well california, from sep 27 - oct 4, arrive on the 27 and leave on the fourth so really 28-3 for disney. I've got 4 day parkhoppers and don't plan on attending mickey's halloween party.

I just noticed the party date falls on 3 days i am there, sept 28/30 and oct 4. Would you guys recommend avoiding the park on the days of the party since we'd have to leave early? I have some flexibility because I am there for a few days, but will the sat/sun crowd just end up congesting the park?

Just trying to figure out the best days to go to the park from the 28-3, don't mind breaking the days up as well.

Based only on my opinions, these would be my personal recommendations. Yes, Saturday and Sunday will be busy with Gay Days going on but if you get there at rope drop, utilize fast pass, etc. you should be fine.

It's kind of a toss up between Wednesday the 28th and Monday the 3rd as they both have a Halloween Party and shorter park hours in DCA. My instinct would be to go on Wednesday the 28th as Monday the third will have some remaining Gay Days crowds and Mondays just tend to be busier than Wednesdays overall.

Wed September 28 - Maybe? Halloween Party in DL and DCA only open until 8.
Th September 29 - Go This Day. Park hours are shorter than Friday but no Halloween Party and no Gay Days yet.
Fri September 30 - AVOID. First Day of Gay Days and Halloween Party. (I was there this day last year and DCA after the Halloween Party started was the busiest I'd ever seen it).
Sat October 1 - Go This Day. Gay Days but no Halloween Party. Will be busy but long weekend park hours.
Sun October 2 - Go This Day. Gay Days but no Halloween Party. Will be busy but long weekend park hours.
Mon October 3 - Maybe? Halloween Party in DL this day and DCA only open until 8.

One other question. Are you staying on site? If so definitely utilize Extra Magic Hour each day if you can. OR, if you have a park hopper with Magic Morning, be sure to use it on Thursday or Saturday at DL.

This leaves 1 more day, sucks about the 30th because it is my bday that day but if it is crazy busy we will skip it, i'll be there on the 1st anyhow so next day, close enough. Wed the 28th seems better than october 3rd simply because we arrive on the 27th so it is nice to hit disney up the very next day.

We are staying at the super 8 on katella. We de have the parkhopper with magic morning I beleive.

On second though sept 28/29, oct 1/2 seem good cause I will just go elsewhere on my actualy bday for a nice dinner or something.

First things first...


You have Hopper's! don't avoid DL because of MHP days.
If you're staying onsite, you'll have EE. Be sure to use it. There is so much you can see and do during the hour.
If you're not, you'll have one MM day at DL. Those days are Tue, Thur and Sat. Sept 29th, Thurs MM is 8am to 9am and Oct 1st, Sat is 7am to 8am.
If you plan to have a Character Breakfast at the Plaza Inn, I'd make a reservation for Sat at 7:10am. And use the MM on Thursday at 8am.
Otherwise it's a toss up as to which I'd choose.

If the 30th is you BIRTHDAY by all means DO NOT skip going to the parks. I dream of being a DL/DCA on my birthday...

We know DL will close to general public for the party at 7pm. But DL opens at 8am, that's 11 hours of FUN!!!
Once DL closes you can move over to DCA. DCA is open to Midnight on your birthday.
DCA will be busy but my goodness don't skip DL/DCA because of the possible crowds. Just be prepared and be flexible.

How many are in your travel group? Can you upgrade to a 5-day Hopper? It's $15 more.

Happy Early Birthday! You could definitely go on the 30th if you wanted, my personal opinion is just that it's the day to skip because of the double whammy of the Halloween Party and Gay Days crowds.

I will also be there during that time (October 2 - October 6 in the park).

Thanks for all the tips guys, so far I am leaning towards sept 28/29 + oct 1/2, if I decide to go on my bday I'll shift it over to sept 29/30 + oct 1/2, seems like the best configuration.

I don't think I can upgrade my tickets to 5 days as the tickets were comped by Disney. Only two people in my group, one being me lol.

I agree, avoid Friday at DL.
I have attended MHP on the Friday of Gay Days several times (although missed last year), and it is VERY busy. GD guests arriving on Friday likely use MHP tickets, rather than a parkhopper. Guests arriving on any Friday during October likely utilize a similar strategy, but the GD weekend might increase the number of Friday arrivals.

the advantage of friday is that DCA is open until midnight, right now sept 29/30 + oct 1/2 is looking good but not 100% yet.

You have HOPPERS don't worry about avoiding DL on any day you've decided to go the parks. If you walk in and you're like "omg no way this is super crazy crowded" turn around and go to DCA. It will take you 2 mins, 3 if you stroll leasuirly across the esplanade.

thanks guys, will play it by ear once we get into town. even though we have 4 day hoppers it is nice to get a day break in between too, like 2 on, 1 off, 2 on.
