Disney and Big Bang Theory

I noticed the Disney references, too. I absolutely love that show!!

Really glad for those "references". Off the top of my head I couldn't recall any. Surprises me what a fog I must be in.

I guess I am a bit slow too we love watching that show and have not notice too many Disney references but now after watching a few of those clips I can see them now

I've noticed the references, too. I love it when TV shows reference other TV shows or anything in pop culture.

DH and I were really cracking up when Sheldon was wearing the Mickey ears, except there was no Mickey face on the front! At first I thought he was wearing them backwards, but when he walked to his room, the camera showed him from behind and the Mickey emblem wasn't there either! I'm sure it has to do with copyrights or trademarks, or something like that, but I still thought it was funny.

Maybe I'm just nuts! But I think they mention DLR a lot, earlier it was mentioned and Howard said that you could rent Snow White. One episode Penny took Sheldon to DL for the day. She also thought that Leonard might take her there for a surprise, she also guessed WDW. I've also heard them talk about Space Mountain & Country Bear Jamboree, and Sheldon has said bibbidi bobbidi boo.

So what do I need to lay off of, BBT or the Dis? :lmao:

Since I believe they are supposed to live in LA or some part of SoCal I would think DLR would come up as it is a big thing. I do now remember her taking Sheldon to Disneyland but other than a thing like that or a comment here or there I have never felt it was a huge part or regular part of the show.

They make frequent references to all different aspects of pop culture in many different ways. I can remember way back before Amy Farrah Fowler made her debut they were talking about something related to neuroscience and make a comment referencing "TV's Blossom" helping them with it because she holds a degree in that field.

I am right there with you.

And yes, they are always making references to Roseanne, Blossom, etc...

Also I find it hysterical that Wil Wheaton pops in and that Data was on an episode (who is now the current STNG enemy of Sheldon).

I guess it can be summed up to how much 80's and 90's TV shows are burned into you cranium.:lmao:

I've noticed it too, usually DL since they're in CA, but in a recent episode after Sheldon's "vacation" at Amy's lab he said, "next year I'm going to Epcot".

Oh yeah - I have noticed several references to Disney on the show over the years. In fact, there were 3 during last week's episode alone. My husband and I commented to each other about them as we watched. He even paused it at the end of the credits to see if the text blip that guy writes said something about it, but it didn't.[/QUOTE

My family just started watching TBBT a few months ago. Anyway, we noticed in last weeks episode that there were 3 references to Disney too. Thought it was odd since Disney owns ABC, and TBBT is an NBC program.

LeVar Burton was in an episode once.

I've noticed a few of the Disney references. Although most references are to comics, comic heroes, Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Lord of the Rings, a game called Settlers of Catan, Dungeons and Dragons, Battlestar Galactica.

Of course, I had to Google more references.

And I found the following:

There are a lot of Disney references in the series. So I did some research and found out that co-creator Bill Prady wrote the Disney attractions Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience.

Found this quote on a random site:
There seems to be at least one reference to Disney in every episode of The Big Bang Theory, and tonight's installment was no exception. Since the Big Bang guys are all comic fans it seemed inevitable that a Disney comic book reference would pop up sooner or later, and tonight's was a good one. In this episode entitled "The Wiggly Finger Catalyst," Sheldon used the often-discussed question of whose fortune is larger, Richie Rich's or Uncle Scrooge's, to describe Raj's wealth. (The answer is, needless to say, Uncle Scrooge.) Sheldon simply explained that Raj's family is "Richie Rich rich" or "about halfway between Bruce Wayne and Scrooge McDuck.' Leave it to Dr. Sheldon Cooper to put it all in perspective in such a colorful comic-centric manner—a way which even the non-geniuses among us can understand.

I still remember the episode - The Large Hadron Collision, where Leonard gave Penny clues about what they were going to do on Valentine's Day. (Milk chocolate and Swiss Cheese Fondue)

Her first guess going to Disneyland to ride the Matterhorn and her second guess was going to Disney World to ride the Matterhorn.

Mentally I was like "Would that be the non-existant Matterhorn because there isn't one at Disney World?"

See the clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL9XeopaOTY

BTW, I did a quick google of the shows creator - Chuck Lorre. Not sure if you ever noticed the vanity cards at the end of each ep, but this one might help explain. http://www.chucklorre.com/index-2hm.php?p=115

Basically he has a long track record with ABC - Dharma and Greg being one of many shows he was involved with. He is also apparently a Disney stock holder. I'm guessing if he's using the same pool of writers they also have ABC experience.

I certainly do not want to generalize but it is fairly typical that enthusiasts of fantasy/sci-fi/comic books are into animation as well----and that generally means they are Disney fans. So for the Big Bang guys to reference Disney is no surprise.

I believe that Sheldon's knocking style was lifted directly from Disney. Resort CM's are trained to knock on guest door's that exact way. 3 knocks, identify (front desk, housekeeping,security...) 3 more knocks, identify then 3 more knocks, identify and then use the master key.

Yes, validated! I knew I wasn't crazy. Thanks for all the info.

You are definitely not crazy. There was a mention of Disneyland in the new episode tonight!

ETA: Just watched a re-run with Sheldon's sister and there was a mention of Anaheim.

Thank you for the link to the vanity cards! I had NO idea of "whatever that is" at the end of each episode, but try to read them (which clearly cannot happen) and have been able to distinguish enough to know they are different. Now I can actually read what they say!!!
