They started this strategy when departing from Australia. It's a chance to experience the ship itself for new departure ports. This is doubly so for the Adventure because it's going to be so huge that you'll need that time just to try to experience most of it. I imagine they will add other ports after two years or so.

Mama Disney does know what's best for me. Why offer a choice to visit a port when you could just stand in line for a character meet instead?

I don't think anybody would say they know what's best for you, you just aren't the demographic they think they want to attract. If you want an immersive local cultural cruise, you probably don't want the Disney Adventure.

When we visit new countries and cities we like to dine out and see the performing arts at night, so a 3 or 4 day Adventure sailing with no ports is much better than a 5-6 day sailing with two ports, because we enjoy the ship on the ship (without early morning announcements as they prepare to clear the ship) and then we have more time to explore Singapore or Kuala Lumpur or another easy hop city before/after. It's possible Disney did market research and realized even their American demo most likely to actually travel would want a shorter cruise so they can tack on a stop in HK or Tokyo or Shanghai.
