Disney accused by Catholic cleric of corrupting children's minds

Our current relative misery is directly related to these prurient obsessions, IMO.
Whereas in the past our relative misery was directly related to maladies, destitution, assorted other hardships, etc. Which manner of misery do folks prefer?

Okay, pot meet kettle.

I've been to Disney many times, and yeah, it does promote a culture of materialism and, to a certain extent, greed. But I've also been to the Vatican. I have never before or since seen such an ostentatious misuse of wealth as I did in St. Peter's. It was beyond impressive.

Oh yea MTE!!!!!!:rotfl:

So a world of libertines is OK as long as we aren't getting cholera any longer?

sounds like someone didn't get to go to Disney when he was little!!!! :lmao:

:lmao: I never got to go when I was little. But I never groused about it... ;)

Hehe... yeah, really!

Now excuse me -- I need to get ready to go to church. :)

I would have too but didn't feel well.

Just another example of someone having a hard time with the turn of the century.

Utopia does not exist my friend.

Utopia only exists to Z and his Princess in Antz. That and on Star Trek. :rotfl:

:rotfl:
I remember what a FUSS my mother made over that video and we didn't even have cable! She'd heard about it from a friend of hers at church and freaked because Madonna was being immoral and leading teens astray with her 'lewd' music video.

It isn't a matter of "OK" or not, but rather a matter of which drivers of misery do you prefer? Personally, if there needs to be misery, I'd rather (folks) be afflicted by more superficial drivers of misery than more substantial ones. How about you?

Can we say fruitloop?

Granted, many of the things he is saying are occuring actually are occuring - but I don't see the "connect" with Disney..:confused3

Actually, that's a pretty strange question. I would prefer no drivers of misery and don't necessarily have a hierarchy in mind.

Not sure I'd consider spiritual drivers of misery superficial. But as long as we are well, have our Mouse and apparently our fruit loops then we'll muddle through.

Um, it has EVERYTHING to do with this thread, as it was already stated ... Pot Meet Kettle...

Kathee

I asked what the Catholic Church has to do with what the author had written. No where did I see a point where he says "forswear the mouse and return to the Catholic Church". It seems as though it's being suggested that because this man is a priest, and "successful" within his church that we can dismiss all that he says because after all, he's associated with an organization held in scorn himself.

Of course we all would... that wasn't the question. Because it undercuts your argument, perhaps?

What argument? I said I though the speaker/writer had a point about materialism - and that I thought it was the cause of much of our misery. That's all I said. You opined that at least we have better things to be miserable about (other than starvation and disease). My reply then was that I thought spiritual causes of misery at least equally undesirable- after you had offered that there was a heirarchy to begin with.

So I will be more direct - since you have lead us here. I absolutely would take the trials of physical misery over those of spiritual misery. My responsibility is to reduce the effect of both in the world as best I can. I don't expect you to agree with that nor do I have the slightest interest in persuading you to agree with that.

Perhaps, if you mean by argument, my assertion that if the priest's observations have merit, they have merit regardless of whether he is Catholic or not, whether his church is hypocritical or not, or whether he wants to persuade you to join his cause or not, then not having assigned some point system to the miseries of the world hardly undercuts the argument. Surely a bit or Aristotle is appropriate when mucking about with syllogisms and all.

I don't think anyone has disagreed with that point. It really isn't the context of the comments you're replying to.

That's all I said.
Your implications, associated with the replies you've posted, indicated otherwise. Otherwise, you'd have had no reason to reply to my messages.

So I will be more direct - since you have lead us here.
You've led yourself: No one can make you say anything you don't want to say.

I appreciate your other comments though.
