I have seen these at Target and wonder if anyone has used them at the parks, etc. I was thinking of getting one for each of my kids to use for souvenirs. Is that what they are for? Seems like it would be fun for them to have their own money to spend.

Disney gift cards are able to be used at most stores/restaurants at WDW, DL and also at the Disney Store and DisneyStore.com. You are also able to use them to pay for theme park tickets and resort reservations.

We use them all the time! At 5% off with the redcard debit/credit, you save a whopping $2.50 per $50 card - it all adds up ;)

We use them for hotel deposits/payments, food and snacks (dole whip!), souvenirs, etc. it's good for just about everything in Disney.

From what I know, the only thing excluded are certain stores; mostly in DD that are not solely owned by Disney.

Have fun!!

One word of caution......

We bought one $50 card each week at our grocery store as part of our grocery budget leading up to our vacation.

Bad idea!!
We thought that would be a great way to pay for things on the trip as we went. But we had to juggle so many cards that it really was a major hassle. We tried to have them combined to one card which was unsuccessful multiple times at our resort and at guest relations. Finally with two days left a woman at the world of disney offered to do this and it worked beautifully for her.

We had so many receipts and cards and pictures of cards (in case they were lost or stolen) that it was quite burdensome. We also learned that while we could put them on our room account as "credit" to charge against, any leftover amount would be refunded to the card it came from. Sp we would need to save all the cards anyway and not use express checkout.

Poor planning on our part. Just want to stop people from having the same experience!

Hmm... I was planning on doing this. I have several gift cards using 5% off and the gift cards you get from purchases that I've used to buy the $50 disney cards. I did go to my local disney store, and they said that as long as I had the individual receipts for each gift card, that they would combine them. I am going to try to do that. I figure better to waste time here than at the world! :o

I have numbered our gift cards with a sharpie. I plan to use them in order. I have kept the receipts.

We plan to charge to the room and then pay it off every few days with the gift cards.

We saved $157.50 by buying the gift cards. That is a meal for our family of 4.

If you plan ahead of time you can minimize your time spent dealing with the cards.

I have not tried it yet but there is a Disney Gift Card app that helps you keep up with remaining balances of all your gift cards. I have one loaded on my app now but we will have a few more by the time we go in June.

We also used the app and marked each card with a unique number. It worked out easy enough for us!

You don't need to carry the gift cards on you if you are staying on property. Charge back to your room and pay the desk at your resort with the gift cards. Some resorts have allowed you to give them the gift cards in advance to charge on the room, however I have not done that, just heard of it. We carried only our KTTW card and drivers license. Nothing else :cool1:

Word of caution.

I purchased 4 cards - $200 worth of gift cards. I saved $10 with my redcard. I then used it to make a payment on my trip. There was issues (apparently others had this as well) where the first one didn't post. They received a communication error. The money went off the card, but never applied to my vacation. I had to make several phone calls to get it resolved. Also, if you would cancel your trip at all - all the money goes back on the gift cards. I assume for souvenirs at the parks - it should be fine though (as I doubt you will be returning anything).

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

We are up to $1000 in gift cards with the 5% at target - so right now we are ahead $50. By the time we go in june we should be up to around $1500-2000 which should be plenty for food, gifts and other things. Our plan is to pay down the KTTW card or pre load it depending on what AKL will do.

My mom gave each of my kids a gift card before our last trip and it worked great for souvenirs. Use a sharpie to put names on them. They knew they couldn't ask for anything else when their gift card was gone. I'm putting gift cards in Easter baskets this year for them to use on our June trip. I'll also get more for our purchases at Target, thanks to DIS I learned the 5% Target discount.

I used the red card and pharmacy rewards to save 10% on our resort. I paid just under $3000 for our resort in 3 transactions all in $50 gift cards YEAH!:cool1: I had absolutely no problems, cms were very kind and patient!

As far as juggling cards thru park, you can just charge to your room and go pay it off in gift cards every few days as needed, no problem

I used them to pay the balance on my Room Only reservation when I checked in. Saved the 5%, and had no issue. Loved being able to do that.

I just bought $2500 worth of them last time I was there, using my red card and pharmacy rewards (10%) . I'm paying off our entire trip with them. It saved us $250 off our trip.

For those that have used multiple cards at the resort.

If you put 20 x $50 cards on your KTTW card and have a balance of say 100 left what do they do?

Put the balance on each card evenly? Put the balance on one card? Put the balance on each card up to $50?

Also, do people find it easier to give the resort ALL of the cards up front or go down to pay off the KTTW every couple of days?

This will be the 1st time for us using gift cards for spending.

Me and DH each buy a $25 GC every payday and are saving them for our cruise in November, which is already paid for. We figure we'll have well over $1000 for "fun" money, but no big out-of-pocket expense at one time. Works for us!

We figured up how much our tips would be for meals on our dining plan and bought that many gift cards. We each carried a gift card each day and it worked perfectly for us. Our whole trip was prepaid and we loved coming home without any bills. We had overestimated our tips some and had extra for souvenirs.

I didn't know you could use gc's for tips, very nice to know!
