All this talk about what Disney could/should do with Lighthouse Point reminds me of something Jo told us during a walking tour on the Disney Magic.

She said cruise line companies used to be able to buy islands, but by the time Disney wanted to buy one, the Bahamas had already stopped selling and they were only able to lease an island. That’s why there are no permanent buildings on Castaway Cay. I don’t know if this is entirely true? Anyone knows more about this?

I admit I don't but I have heard the same. I started poking around and ran into this https://www.privateislandsonline.com/caribbean/bahamas/eleuthera/lighthouse-cay which I thought was cute to see. At first I thought 'freehold' meant you could buy the islands on this site, but Disney is leasing LC so clearly that is wrong and I'm over my head after about two seconds, lol.
All I can imagine now is someone at Disney scrolling through that site much like I do on Zillow with places I 100% cannot afford 🤣

I doubt that permanent building part is true. There are indeed several structures that could be considered permanent. At least permanent in terms of a 99 year lease term.
