Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

I just bought MagicBand + for the whole family. I don't care about the lights and interactive abilities so can I just not charge them and use them like the old ones?

I read that they will still work for hotel door, LL and charging to the room. But what about for the photopass? I've heard people say it won't add your ride photos to your magicband profile without having it charged up. Is this true?

Is it worth charging 5 of these every single night?

Yes, they'll still work for hotel door, LL and charging to the room, as well as park entry - anything where you tap. They will not work to link ride photos that don't have a tap point at the end of the ride, unless they're charged.

Maybe you can get away with charging only some of them, if the people wearing the ones you charge will be riding in the same seat or car as the ones you don't charge. But if sometimes someone will ride separately (different rides take photos differently), their MB will need to be charged to get their photo.

Do you know where there is a list of those rides?

Sadly, no, I don't. Some rides, like Tiana's, will put your entire party of five in one log, and the photo is of the entire log, so only one of your MBs would need to be charged. Other rides, like Rock N Rollercoaster, put 4 people in each photo section (2 rows of 2 people each), so only one of the 4 needs to be charged. Seven Dwarfs photos focus on two people in one row, so at least one of those MBs needs to be charged, and if you have 5 people seated in 3 rows, then at least one MB in each row needs to be charged. It just really depends on the ride.

We expect to be charging our MB+ every night, along with our cell phones, watches and tablets, as a routine. That way if one of us rides alone, we can be sure to get the photo!

What’s shipping time like for those who ordered with a resort stay? After checkout, I noticed it said 10 business days in order to ship.

It takes a couple of business days (Mon - Fri) for them to be personalized and ship out. Our most recent sent (ordered 7/1) we received in a week from when ordered.

I've been trying to get as much info as possible on these things, last time I went MB+ wasn't a thing. I love the convenience of MB but I really don't care about the lights and stuff and HATE the thought of charging the thing every night. I don't even have my old MB anymore, it was 5 years old so I tossed it. I had decided on getting a MB2 but after reading through some comments, it seems like PhotoPass doesn't work well with MB2 and I don't want to miss any photos as December will be my daughter's first trip. That being said:

1) Is there anywhere at WDW to still find cheap bands (~$10)? All the pre-order ones right now are $25+ and I really don't want to spend $50 for my wife and I.
2) What's the cheapest MB+ you have found (on-site or elsewhere)?
3) We are a once every 3-5 year visit family. I know these probably have been around long enough, but does anyone have experience on the lifespan of the MB+? Knowing I'll get to reuse it would soften the blow of dropping $50.

We just received our MBs for our trip in Aug. My question is I got one and my daughter got one I'm the only one with the MDE app on their phone i takencare of her and other family members.. So I link mine and connect to my phone via Bluetooth but when it comes to hers I know we link it to MDE on my acct but does she connect her MB via Bluetooth on her phone or mine?

Do the MB's fit as well as the MB2's? I heard they can be bulky and fall off easily.

I honestly feel they should offer both types in a wide array of colors.
I also don't feel they should try to phase everyone into MB+ series.
Like many have said, the charging feature alone will be a hassle and who cares about it lighting up? Some of us are not 8.

I have a tiny wrist. Mine has never fallen off, but there is so much extra band compared to the previous bands.

Charging is a hassle. The light is bright. And there have been times I’ve had it plugged in and it didn’t charge at all.

I agree. But I suspect that Disney has invested enough into the technology that they don't want to let people choose to buy less expensive MBs, so I'll be surprised if the MB2 starts making a comeback.

My head hurts. I always loved the Magic Bands, but these new MagicBands+ make it so difficult. I received my bands and mine is paired to my MDE on my phone. It says to link but it says the tap function did not work so after many attempts, it looks like when I check in upon arrival, I will need to have the CM help me. Also they will have to link my husband's once mine is done as his new band is a MB2. I also need to charge this every night upon charging our phones, my hearing aids, and iPad. Not to mention trying the VQ for certain attractions each morning, if we cannot get the morning then trying for the afternoon sessions. When did vacations become so stressful and not relaxing. What happened to getting aways from everyday stresses.

I have some of the original MG bands. I used them last time I visited, 2 years ago. I didn’t experience any problems using them.

Are the old wonderful bands still usable in he parks?

MBs will always work for tap functions - opening Disney resort room doors, entering parks and LLs, charging food and merchandise to the room.

They won’t always work for long range functions like linking ride photos where there is no tap point - probably only last two to four years for that.

Forgive me if this in mentioned elsewhere, but are the MB2's being sold in the parks and at the resorts still? We always loved having the bands, but are not thrilled about the + activity and the price of the +.

Is Disney phasing out the MB2's?

I don't recall seeing any MB2s anywhere on property.

I was wondering what is the difference between magic band 2 and magic band+
Thanks for any info

I have done some forum searching but I can’t find an answer to my question. If my wife and I decide not to use MBs on our upcoming trip, will we both need to carry our cell phones for theme park entry or will one phone be able to scan in for both of us?
