Disney’s Magic Band FAQ Link

My BIL is taking my son to WDW at the end of January. Both of them went to WDW with me in late 2020, but for some reason BIL has fallen off my MDE. He started his own MDE, can he move/add his magic band there since he is the same person?

I would just have him access my MDE (we did tag to make my MDE show on his), except that he is no longer on mine.

I really need to reserve their park days, so need to know how to make this work. :)
Since he now has his own MDE, you need to link his new account to your F&F list. Click on Add A Guest, follow the prompts and send the invite to the email address he used for his account, or if y'all are geographically close enough, he can pull up his Linking Code (on the app, it's way at the bottom of My Profile) and you can scan that. That should link the MB that was linked to him in your MDE to him in his own MDE.

If that doesn't work (it's strange that you show in his F&F but he doesn't show in yours), I'd call WDW Website Support at 407-939-4357. They've helped me many times straigtening out issues with MDE!

we leave at the end of the month and Im trying to tie up loose ends already
My DD gave me a new magic band--its for the 50th she never activated it so I could
its in MDE--so I know thats the one I will use
but my DH had a few from other trips not sure how far back they go since the last time we were there was jan of 20 just before the world shut down
I know for basic things like opening the resrot doors you can use older bands
were planning just a resort stay maybe going to park one day well see how we feel so well be getting tickets when were there for the one day can his ticket go on the older magci band--I really dont want to spend any more money since we have so many bands already

also is it a good idea to deactivate the older bands--is there a way of seeing which ones would work still

anything else I should know or do with these bands
thanks

In MDE, for each of you there is a list of MBs linked to you. You can match the number on the back of each band to the list. As long as the band is listed as Active, it will work, and nothing else needs to be done. If the MB he wants to use is listed as Deactivated, just click to Activate it again.

As long as you link your new tickets to MDE for both of you, the old bands and new bands will be able to "see" those tickets and will work.

As far as the 50th MB, it will work for all normal MB functions just like the old bands did. It does require special setup for the special functions, like lighting up for shows. I don't have a MB+, so I can't help with that setup.

I’m going to Disney for a short trip before I go for my first grandparent trip (my parents) I’m planning to buy them magic bands while I’m there and was wondering can I connect them to their account since they are on my friends and family list? Or will they need to do it themselves when I see them for our trip?

Do the MagicBands+ stay on well without any other accessories? I recall getting some kind of little band for my old MagicBand that kept it from popping off.

I want to make sure I’m looking correctly there are no more bands around 20?
We will use for tickets- room and charge to room.

We had old bands- but inmistakenly read something last year new ones are replacing them- so we pitched them. Now I’m reading more since we are going and realize I was wrong and have to get all new

Maybe this is a better question for the Canada board, but what happens if you order pre-arrival Magic Bands, which Canadians have to pick up at the resort, and then for whatever reason you have to cancel your trip? Will they still not refund them or even ship them at that point? It makes me not want to order the pre-arrival ones even though it's the most convenient option.

We had this happen once when we had to cancel a trip due to Hurricane Irma. I contacted the resort and they held our bands until we arrived 4 months later! Not sure if that's the norm but I was pleasantly surprised upon check-in they had our bands waiting for us.

Disney does not ship anything internationally so I had no success asking them to be shipped.

So if my possible return trip ended up being like a whole year out, I probably wouldn't be getting the magic bands, hahaha. I will probably still order them but not until close to the last possible time. We ordered them last time, but this time my health is much more precarious, so I never know if we'll have to cancel.

Am I missing what covers the battery connection points when not being charged? Should the two connection points be exposed?

Anyone any thoughts on this? Are the cheapest bands on Disney.com- no way customer service can add the cheaper ones for me on my reservation?

I know people have indicated that MBs work indefinitely (except for some of the photo features), but what’s the oldest one someone has used successfully? I got ours in late 2015 and want to use them in November 2023…

I booked a vacation package for my family of 4 adults (2 resort rooms and 4 6-day tickets) via my personal My Disney Experience account. I purchased all 4 MB+ via my account and I see each new MB+ listed next to my family member's name in my account. Do I still pair my MB+ to my phone if I already see the MB+ listed as active in my account (I guess I am wondering what the point of pairing to my phone is)? Do I do this for my family members too?

So it’ll let me connect it to them from my account? I don’t manage their accounts but they are on my friends and family list
Correct. When you link a band, you're presented a list of people, including yourself and friends and family, and can select any one on the list. You will also have to confirm before you submit, because once its linked and assigned to a person, the band can not be re-assigned to another person.

To expand on CarolynFH already replied... Once a a band is linked and assigned to a person, as long as it stays marked active in their account, it can be re-used for tickets, room access, etc. Just link the tickets or resort stay to the person, and any active band linked to them can be used.

As for deactivating old bands: I don't know the "official answer" but in my experience (over 40 Magicbands and cards linked). I have run into problems with "too many" ACTIVE bands/cards. Issues such as not opening the room door, or allowing park entry.

Every trip I take, I usually take a different band for each park day (so like 5 or 6), and even bands that I used the "last trip" might have problems "this trip" if "too many" bands are marked active (under MagicBands & Cards or MagicBands & More). So before every trip, I mark all bands and cards (in MDE under MagicBands & Cards) inactive, except for those I'm going to take with me. When I get to the resort, I try each band to open the door. IF it doesn't work, I make sure only the bands in my hand are active and everything else is marked inactive. Then The I take the band having an issue, I mark it inactive, wait about 5 minutes, and mark it active again. That usually fixes it. In the rare case it doesn't, a visit to the front desk or guest services is needed.

Example: October '22, I took my MK45 Tiki Room band (used every trip since getting it in June 2017, along with my Pandora and D&B Compass Bands that I've also used on past trips, along with my MK 50th Oct 1 band and Partners MB+ along with one or two others from past trips. Even though I've used the Tiki Band and D&B Compass band in the past, and the MK50th Oct1 band was newly linked, they didn't work to get in the room initially, but the old Pandora and new Partners MB+ did. I made sure every band/card not with me was marked inactive, then I marked the MK45Tiki inactive, waited, re-activated it, and it started working. I did the same for D&B Compass and MK50th and they started working. I had the same experience with my wife's bands and our Son's, and did the exact same steps to get them working. Oh, and those same bands continued to work in December '22 when I went without the family.

MB+ needs to be paired with your phone if you want to do the interactive experiences like Fab50 Quest or Batuu Bounty Hunters (in the Play Parks app). If you don't pair with your phone, they will still light up, vibrate, do all the regular MB features, etc.
