Disinfecting your room before stay?

Come on folks..stop watching all of the news stories and believing everything you see on TV. Lighten up on the disinfectant cause all you are doing is making things worse for our kids and future generations.

Why are so many kids today allergic to ...everything ?? Cause we have insulated them from any and every type of germ, bug, bacteria and such, so they cannot build up the normal immunities that we(their parents) take for granted. Yes I had the chicken pox, mumps, measels, ear infections, colds, flu, tonsilitis, and I am sure I was exposed to many more bugs in my life, but ya know what...I am not allergic to anything and neither are my two grown daughters cause they crawled on the floor, swung on the swings, climbed all over those "terrible" play equipment at school with all of the bacteria on it.

We have become a society where the only good bug is a dead bug. Bacteria is part of our lives and we could not exist without them...put away the Lysol and the disenfectant wipes and allow our kids to be kids.

This thread is like the one I took part in last year! I was one of the Lysol weilding, germaphobes that said I cleaned everything when we first got there. I even told of my mom who traveled with ALL her own bedding. Comforter, sheets, pillows etc. because she used to be a maid at a local hotel, years ago when I was a teenager, so she knows well of the horrors. Well..... since that last thread, we have stayed our first on-site stay at POR. We had all our supplies, the bedding, the Clorax & Lysol wipes ...you name it. Ya know what, we didn't even use them! It was our first trip that mom didn't even make the bed up with her own linens. She didn't even remove the comforter :earseek: Toilets looked clean so we didn't even clean them! ::yes:: Maybe it's that Disney false sense of securtiy, who knows, but the only thing I was a bit skeeved about was the remote control. I guess I am reformed now.... at least at Disney! :cool1:

Let me tell you a story.

I used to clean rooms when I was a teen.I saw some nasty stuff in doing so,but the worst was a loaded gun a traveler had left in a drawer.

Now to this day when I check into a hotel I check drawers,Heaven forbid a child were to find that.I don't worry so much about the germs, what are the chances I will get one that will kill me or my children?A loaded gun though would do it.
OMG!!!!! That is so scary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are going to a hotel in 19 days. I can tell you DH will be checking the drawers!!!

I hope you don't eat in fast food restaurants either. 60 minutes did another show, that showed that the ice machines in 3 separate restaurants had higher levels of bacteria than the water in their toilets. A 20/20 report showed that the highest areas of bacteria in a hotel room was actually the washroom door knob, and the taps.

Ok, this board is pushing it for me. All this stuff we see on TV is turnsing us into people who are too scared to put our butts on a toilet seat or grab a phone without spraying it with lysol? Well, they also shows like Desperate Housewives on TV, and I dont live by what THEY say.

About the bedbugs - most of my relatives live in the south. They're ALL bedbug free. Let's say that lice is only commonly found in the midwest. If you really think about it, what if you were traveling to the midwest and you heard that lice was on the rise... Would you freak out in your hotel room and check every inch? Um, I wouldnt, because any respectable hotel room would have already checked for them and eliminated them! So, I dont know what hotels you are staying at, but I stay in Disney hotels when I visit florida and have never seen a bedbug in my life!

And now we're not going to eat out? And I thought some of these other things were a little extreme. I dont care what they say on TV or a message board, you'll find me at McDonalds or Taco Bell at least a few times each month. So give it a rest, I'm sure you'll enjoy your vacation MUCH more! :thumbsup2

I don't worry too much about the cleanliness at Disney like I do at other places but I do wipe the telephone and the remote with a lysol type clothe. I do check the beds at night but I don"t spray them with anything.

We do tip the housekeeping department so this might help keep our room extra clean. As far as the rails and rides we just wash our hands alot. We have never caught anything or become sick. Disney is a very clean place.

I don't allow anyone to sit or lay on the bed spreads. Those tv shows have proved the point many times.

I am not paranoid about the room, but with the comforters I am. I take that off with the blanket immediately . DH always complains that he's cold =) and I do wipe off the toilet and the bathtub. The thing that concerns me the most is the hair, that really grosses me out when I find hair in the sheets..Even though I'm sure thats not the grossest thing on there =)
