Disinfecting An Ipad?

I’m at a school too. We just wipe ours down with Lysol wipes.

When I taught I cringed at how dirty the technology was. Every few days I'd give my classroom helpers Clorox wipes to wipe down the keyboard and mouse. We didn't have ipads, but I can imagine how dirty those are. I wipe down my sons ipad with a Clorox wipe, but then I don't do it daily.

Have you ever taken apart a keyboard? I've occasionally pulled out a key when the mechanism misaligned so that I could put it back in. It's pretty nasty in there after time, especially if someone is eating in front of the keyboard. There's also dust and hair. Something without a physical keyboard is much easier to keep clean. And the old-fashioned mouse with a ball. I had good times with rubbing alcohol and a toothpick trying to pull out the hair that got stuck in the rollers.

The biggest problem keeping iPads clean is the home button and the switches. There's stuff that gets in the little crevices that needs to be cleaned out. The versions with the fingerprint sensor seem to be better at keeping stuff out, but it's not really sealed. The latest iPhones (not the X) use a home button that's actually solid state using haptic feedback to give the sensation that it's being pressed.

Still - in a school setting I would think they would be protected with some sort of case that might also be cleaned instead of the device. I've had a couple of iPad Minis fall to the ground with varying amounts of damage. The worst was one day my kid got excited and dropped it on the corner where the glass broke. It was in a case but one that was more a cover. I figured it would be OK to use until an hour later when my kid dropped it again and the whole front screen got smashed up.
