I'm using Microsoft word to create a planning card/page.

I have a large picture that takes over the whole picture (background).

Now -- I want to type OVER the picture as if it wasn't even there --- text boxes: YUCK --- too time consuming - and the border of the boxes cover the picture... even when i take the border off.

Is there anyway to save the background page as it's own file (?template?) and then just type over it as if it wasn't there???

Thanks for your help!!! :)

I'm a little confused with your question so hopefully I can help.

If you insert a picture into word, then click on the image to open it up for editing. Then in the picture toolbar click on the "text wrapping" button which looks like a picture of a dog with lines behind it. Then in the drop down menu click on "behind text". Then you should be able to type over the image without having to worry with inserting a text box over the image.

Also, if you need to, you can click on the image and drag it around the page to place it where you want it.

Hope that helps!

I would mostly likey do what the OP suggesting as well, however, if you really want to create a background you can try this, I am using 2010 version now, so my steps may be differnt than yours, but the same general idea:

1 - Edit - Background
2 - you should get an otion to select Fill Effect
3 - then you will have 4 tabs, "Gradient", Texture, Pattern and Picture.
4 - Select picture and you can browse to the image you want.

Hope this helps as well!

Scoffer's suggestion is great. Depending on your version of Word...you can insert a background by going to "format" and in the drop down menu click on "background". Then click on "fill effects" and click on the "picture" tab.

The only problem I have when I do that is getting the picture centered and where I want it versus where the program puts it. With my instructions above you can move the picture around and change the size if needed.

thanks, ALL for these suggestions!!
I'm playing w/ these now ---
When I insert a "background", however, the picture/background becomes "transparent" --- is there a way to make it so that it is full and dark?? (like the actual picture).

Just an FYI, you can turn off the lines and the background on a text book. Just right click and go to format text box. From there you can select the no background (meaning your picture will surround the text instead of a white box) and you can turn it to no line so again there won't be an actual "box" around your text.

I would give more specific directions, but I am on a mac that doesn't have Word on it to be able to give step by steps. I'll see if I can find more info with a search...

Alright, I should have looked than posted, but here you go.

When you right click on your text box select format text box.

From there a box should pop up that says colors and lines on the first tab. Select the drop down menu under Fill that says color next to and make sure you select "no fill"

To turn off the box around the text go to the where it says line and select the drop down menu where it says color. Again select "no line"

Let me know if that helps. Text boxes are easy when you figure them out. And no messy lines and such! HTH
