I feel so sorry for you guys!

No Nick at Night?? I would die!!!

And some of you guys don't have CBS? No Survivor, No CSI?? There would be some big issues going on with me right now and someone would be hurtin' for it!!

Are you guys just riding it out? Or are you looking into changing providers or going cable?

I'm waiting for about a week and then I am switching to someone else.

I too am waiting a few days then will switch if they haven't figured out how to handle this.

DH says he will wait about a month, but he is not home during the day with no Nick Jr.!! And I'm sure that my neighbors will be sick of me showing up in my pajamas on THursday nights to watch Survivor and CSI!!! I'll give a week before I look into changing companies.................P

No plans to change. I don't watch CBS or any of those stations. I'd possibly miss MTV, but Dish replaced it with a music video channel called FUSE, and they actually play videos!! It's awesome.

As long as Dish is around, I'll keep it. If I really need to watch something on CBS, I'll unplug my dish and use my antenna.:D

We called DirectTV last night and are switching over. While DISH will probably get those channels back, we just decided to switch anyway. DirectTV offers channels in their basic package that DISH does not in their equivalent package- PBSKids, Oxygen, Soapnet- so we just decided to go ahead and switch.
I can understand DISH's point, but I still think it was probably not the greatest business decision. When DH called DirectTV last night, they said that they had been flooded with people changing to them.

Just another reason we have no cable or dish services. I'm still getting CBS....:) and Nick still will come on Sunday mornings.

Sorry, this whole thing is ridiculous. They need to suck it up and pay.

why do people panic and react so fast!!?? It's only been ONE day!!! Besides, it's Viacom that's the problem, and I understand why Dish doesn't want to pay. Who wants to pay for extra channels that most people won't watch?

Of course with everyone switching after the first day, Dish will either have to raise prices or go out of business. It's a shame that we continue to give in and let big corps. do what they want.

Sorry, I just have a problem with things like this!:D

What is this all about??? I have Dish Network and I get Survivor and CSI? When did this happen?? Please help, I have to watch Survivor tomorrow night!!!

I can't speak for others, but we didn't panic. True, the Viacom thing is why we did look into DirectTV, but like I said, there were other channels they offered that were not included in DISH's comparable package. We had never even heard of PBSKids until I looked on DirectTV's website and this would be great for my two kids.
And I don't think that it's channels that most don't watch. DD spends a great deal of time watching Nickelodeon as do millions of other children.

I seriously feel for you guys. I have a hard time sleeping at night because it's uncomfortable and usually I watch Nick at Night when I can't sleep. I would be so lost..lol

Yourtravelpro - don't worry - if you have CBS now you are fine. It's just the local CBS affiliates that are owned by Viacom.

I really couldn't care less, though I do miss VH1 Classic, that's about it.

My 13 and 14 y.o. still occasionally watch Sponge Bob, but they'll get over it.

Other than that, I don't watch any of the other channels that have been deleted, and I still have CBS here.

As long as they don't take away ABC (for my General Hospital), HBO, The Travel Channel, The Weather Channel, Food Network or Animal Planet, I'm good!

I think sooner or later, the Dish Network people will buckle and add them back in, even if they do pass along the cost to us, the customers. Heck...I'm already paying $75.95 a month for 3 receivers (one with a PVR) and the HBO/Cinemax/Encore package, plus my local network package, what's three or four more dollars at this point.

we have no plans to switch either...in fact, i do believe that if we were to switch right now to another service, we'd be penalized by dish network.

it's only been a day...i can live without mtv for a bit....they'll rerun my episodes of newlyweds a thousand times anyway! and i don't have little ones yet, so i don't miss nickelodeon...we still have CBS so i won't miss survivor!

Direct tv is a few dollars more and I've always been happy with Dish so I'll give it a while before I switch. My kids and I miss Nick already though!

Does anyone know if Direct TV has the same features? I love having favorites menus set up for each of us and I can't live without my "info" button!

I wasn't talking about Nickelodean being watched, I know people watch that!! But Viacom wants Dish to buy two other channels previously not part of the package, and if Dish doesn't, then they don't get any at all (Nick, MTV, etc...). That's why all this happened. And they are just using CBS for leverage. (sp?)

sorry guys, not trying to sound preachy!!:)

We have Dish, and we're sticking it out. Face it, Dish can't take the risk of losing tons of money if people switch to DirectTV or cable, and with March Madness coming up next week, I think there's going to be a solution real soon. Hopefully they'll settle before Survivor tomorrow night!!

No, I hardly ever watched those channels anyway. I'm all for Dish doing what they did and standing up to them!

I called Direct TV yesterday morning and am having it installed tomorrow. I have had Dish for about 3yrs and was under no contract with them. In the past month I had looked into switching to Direct anyway since I wanted more receivers and Direct was offering them for free. I was more bothered by the lack of notice from Dish than the actual losing of the stations. I just know that I personally would have been fine with paying the extra buck or two to keep the stations I had.

Someone on another website I go to explained what he thought was happening and I though it was worth repeating. He saw Viacom basically blackmailing Dish into accepting their terms or else getting nothing from them. Dish did not want to be forced into taking channels that they felt would be of no interest to subscribers plus they said that they would likely have to cancel a few stations they already had. Viacom also wanted Dish to renegotiate current contracts and this would also cost Dish more. Dish sees this as taking a stand to show other distributors that they won't be forced to do this against their will and also to keep costs down so that they don't end up increasing rates continually.

This guy also pointed out that it's likely just a matter of time before Direct TV will have to deal with the same issue. He thinks it's possible that people who switch might just run into the same problem later on.

I don't know what to think myself which is why I'm repeating this but it's interesting. Anyway, we'll just stay put for now.
