I saw the thread about Direct TV and wanted to share my experience with Dish Network. Dish has dropped AMC and WE with no plans to have them again. I watch AMC all the time and called Dish to express my displeasure at not being able to watch the shows I like and have paid for. Their solution to the situation was to give me a free Roku and to take $10.00 off my bill a month for 12 months in order to allow me to buy programing though Amazon. I do think that I should tell you that we have the biggest package that they sell so others with smaller packages with Dish might be offered something different? Just a heads up for all my budget minded friends.

Thanks for your post. I called and was given a Roku and a one time $35 credit. Just switched 3 months ago b/c was having problems with directTV, so not a long time/high program customer. Now won't switch back to direct since they are dropping stations too. I am hopeful they will work something out. If it is still out when Walking Dead comes on I will probably call back to see what the loyalty department is offering. I really love AMC, so dropping the channel is a bummer, especially if they do not adjust the price of the programming packages.

We are big Walking Dead fans and they told me that I could get the program on the Roku. In fact, one of the reasons that they dropped AMC, according to a letter they sent me, is because people can watch the new episode of Walking Dead the day after on Netflix. It puzzles me that they complain about Netflix, but are giving me $10.00 a month off my bill in order to subscribe to it.

That's not true. Season 2 isn't even on Netflix yet! My DD read the comics this spring/summer and wanted to check out the show, but all Netflix has is the 6 season 1 episodes and it isn't available on Hulu at all. As far as I know the only way to stream season 2 is at $2 per episode from Amazon, and I'm not sure how quickly after the original air date that option becomes available.

The $35 credit I got was to buy a complete season to stream through Amazon. The dish guy told me I would be able to stream the episodes the day after air.

FYI, here is the form letter that Dish sent me:

Dear Valued DISH customer,

Thank you for your e-mail.

The channels AMC Networks forces us to deliver -- WE, IFC and AMC -- do not give our customers the best content at the best value. We have permanently removed them from the DISH line up as of June 30.

AMC Networks has further devalued its programming by making its handful of popular shows available to consumers via iTunes, Netflix and Amazon.com. This means that AMC Networks wants us to pay many millions of dollars for content that is available to our subscribers the next day for just a couple of dollars.

Among DISH viewers, movies on AMC are substantially more popular than its few original series. But customers have better choices than AMC as DISH offers Blockbuster @Home, dozens of movie channels from partners like HBO, Showtime, Starz, EPIX, HD Net, MGM HD, IndiePlex, RetroPlex, PixL and the latest new releases on DISH Cinema.

People don’t want to and shouldn’t have to watch their movies interrupted with commercials. The movies shown on AMC are not commercial-free. DISH is proud to offer customers alternative programming options that deliver great movies, un-interrupted.

DISH is providing more movie content to its customers. We will offer top quality, commercial-free HDNet Movies at channel 130 to replace AMC. HDNet, soon to become AXS.TV, will be at channel 131 to replace IFC. Style will replace WE at channel 128. Additionally, we are providing all of our customers with a free preview of great independent films on IndiePlex and to dozens of top movies on Encore for the month of July. This will give our customers a taste of the thousands of movies on demand as part of Blockbuster @Home.

At DISH, we stand up for our customers every day to deliver more than just the best in entertainment. We have remained in contact with AMC throughout this situation. Should AMC choose to change their position, we remain open to a proposal that would resolve this issue.

Thank you for being a valued and loyal customer.

Sincerely,
DISH
