disgusted ----- big ben....

If they could have gotten rid of his contract and put that money into developing someone else, I could see them do it. It would be a re-building year, and the stands would still be full.

Why? This could very well be a Superbowl year and the stands will still be full.

You don't just pick someone and develop them. :confused3 The Steelers haven't had a QB on the caliber of Ben since Terry Bradshaw, back in the 70's, remember him? Good quarterbacks don't come along every year, could be once every 30 years. And the Rooneys know it. They are smart business people. Thats why Ben is still here.

Good for you! I live here in Pittsburgh and I'm telling you that it was reported and the Rooneys made a statement when all was said and done that they were never shopping Ben around the league. That is was all a rumor.

And as Hannathy said, if the Rooney wanted Ben gone he would be. The Rooneys are one of the most powerful and influential football owners in the NFL. I'm sure it easily could have been a done deal.

Not the case, they areva very thrifty and smart family, they were not about to lose big money. Had they got a good deal early on Ben would have been gone. Influence among the owners has nothing to do with this, money does.

Living in Pittsburgh does not make you have all the answers to this. Besides, you don't know where all I live or what I may know that you don't. :thumbsup2

ETA: Check out all the Steelers tickets for sale on Craigslist. Unbelievable. You never see that many for sale- not ever. That's Big Ben's legacy.

I can't believe I keep answering your posts, but here it goes again. Do you actually ever look for tickets? They are always on there.

Do you see how much these tickets are going for? Cheapest I seen was $125.00 for $59.00 tickets. People always sell tickets for games they don't plan on going to. ( I do it) Or sell off the whole year, because its an easy way to make some extra money and they don't want to give up their season ticket license because it will take 30 years to get another one.

Well you have wrong info, no matter where you live. There were not 7 teams shopping for Ben , unless the Rooneys flat out lied during their statement.

Seems like you have all the answers though since you think you know so much about what they were going to do with Ben. Wow guess you have a crystalball, could read peoples minds, or maybe you're one of the Rooneys disguising yourself on the Dis board. :rolleyes1

And when you say, I don't know who you know. Well I guess the same could be said for me, now couldn't it. Because you don't know who I know either.

They would have traded him for sure, and tried. Nobody would touch him at that time. Probably now that it's all blown over they could find a team who would want him but he is no longer damaged goods and the Steelers will give him another chance. One more public indiscretion and he's gone. IMO.

The Steelers at no time tried to trade Big Ben

Ever think the lousy economy may have something to do with tickets for sale? Check Green Bay, you know where you get put on the waiting list at birth by your parents and if you are lucky in your 40's your name comes up well there are tickets for sale there this year to. Of course there always are some tickets for sale.......

You don't develop QBs as starters. The teams that have been successful at this are few and far between.

Huh? You don't think the economy has anything to do with that?

I think it is safe to say the 99.99% of the male season ticket holders don't give a hoot about what ben does off the field.

couldnt get a deal to trade ben?? are you kidding me?? If the Rooneys said "give me your best offer" there would have been teams offering players first borns to get him!

If you know Steeler football then you know if the Rooneys wanted him gone he would'nt be here...period

As far as selling tickets, trust me if you cant make a game(like if your going to Disney) you get a sweet $$$ deal for them :goodvibes

In honor of this thread my kid wore his Big Ben Jersey to school today :lmao:

Did you look at Pittsburgh Craigslist? Hundreds of Steelers tickets in one day. It's more than the economy. I looked at Green Bay, and it doesn't even come close. The economies are probably comparable, and the Steelers are supposed to be good.

"You have teams out there that are three deep in possibly adequate quarterbacks. The Steelers could find one if they wanted to."

guess we didnt want one then huh?

I heard all of the trade rumors. I assumed the Rooneys leaked the story to scare Ben. If they wanted to trade him, they would have.

I personally hope Ben has a great year. He's my back up qb on my fantasy team.:thumbsup2

I bet those people selling their tickets on Craigslist did. Bottomline. They couldn't get rid of Ben for anything close to the amount they've committed to him. He'll probably get "hurt" in the first game he plays, anyway. He's very delicate.

You know that people sell tickets for more reasons than to make a statement about a single player on the team, right? I suspect that most tickets sold by individuals are to make some cash.

Checking stubhub the first home game for the Packers has 8 pages of tickets available. The Steelers home game has 4 pages. Given the population base of those two teams, it would appear that nobody wants to sell their Steelers tickets. Check the Saints, who are Super Bowl champs and the town is insane for them at the moment... 13 pages of tickets for sale.

Trying to equate tickets available for sale with the actions of a player and the towns supposed disapproval is clearly not possible. If anything, this silly example disproves your point.

There is a big difference between adequate and what a QB lof his caliber. Thre are not that many top tier QBs in the NFL.

By the way, which teams are three deep?

But it appears from your description of Ben that you know what happened. Why is the Ben "the pig" while the girls gets away without a a label. At the very least, I would call her a jock sniffer. The other words I would use won't pass the DIS filters.

That girl new what she was getting (into) and when it wasn't the special experience she thought it was going to be she cried RAPE!

*snort*

I don't really care about Ben but I do hope Dennis Dixon does well. I've always liked him. :thumbsup2

this back and forth has been funny to read since unless one of you is a member of the Steelers front office or the Rooney family you have no idea of what they were or were not trying to do with Ben.

Just because they publically said they didn't want to trade him doesnt mean squat.....owners/gm/coaches say stuff to the media all the time and then do the exact opposite down the road.

Somebody said else said that "You don't develop QBs as starters. The teams that have been successful at this are few and far between" not sure what you are referring to but many teams have been successful drafting QBs and using them as starters early in their career. Tom Brady was a starter in his 2nd year...as was Drew Brees. Peyton Manning was the starter from day 1, Eli Manning started 1/2 of his rookie year and then from there on out.
