Renee, I love those pics of your darling daughter. She was the cutest little toddler and is growing up to be such a beautiful young lady.

Wow so much to catch up on. I didn't get to Dis last night because we went to get Amanda from camp. She was just too homesick to make it any longer this week. It was only about an hour and 15 minutes from home but because of Mapquest we took an almost 4 hour tour of Alabama!! We didn't get home until about 11:30!!

Kari - your hurricane experience was awful!

Rags - Happy Birthday!!

Sarah - how wonderful to still be on vacation! Good luck with homeschooling your older boys!

Last yr the Valor was scheduled to go to Cozumel, but they switched it to Costa Maya. That was really sort of a waste. To me it was like an overprice Tijuana.

We absolutely loved Costa Maya, lol. I know, to each his own. We did not stay in the plaza area, but went out of it and took a cab to a beach area that was just AWESOME. It had a restaurant, bar, restrooms/changing area, grass covered shelters with tables, and a beach massage. Very low key, relaxing and beautiful. DS played in the gentle surf, while DH and I relaxed with Coronas. DH and I also got a massage for $25 each. It was the best!

I don't know if you belong or not, but cruisecritic.com is the DIS of cruising. We have found all kinds of neat things to do on their boards. We have been to Key West, Cozamel (twice), Grand Caymen, Belize, Yucatan, Costa Maya, Nassau, St Thomas, & St. Martin.

I also found a slightly more recent pic, taken on that same trip.

DS was still 7, but had gotten his glasses.

Kari,
I'm guessing that your story is about Hurricane Francis. We lived in Spring Hope for that one, and I know how bad it was. We didn't have power for 9 days. Borrowed a generator, and had to chain it to the house cause theft was so bad.

Hurricane Floyd we lived in Nashville, and had some flooding but not nearly as bad as others. It came up to the floorboards under the house, but not actually in the house. We found out when we sold the house that all the supports underneath were partially rotted, and the sill plates had to be replaced. We actually had someone on a jet ski in our front yard till DH took out the shotgun. He was sending wake up almost to the door.

Then we moved to Virginia, and got stuck with Isabel. Hubby had a work accident and had to have surgery the day before, so was on major drugs. He got a raging infection, so I had to take him back to the hospital the day after. He was lucky and had power at the hospital, while DS and I suffered without power for 4 days. Power came on the day he came home.

Kari, I also didn't realize you were from Raleigh until that story. That is where we will be flying out from. I used to work at RDU, and it's only 2 hours from here with cheaper flights than Richmond.

Off to take DS to his college parent day. Talk to you later.

Hey gang!

Such scary hurricane stories! Eek! I can totally relate though--- trust me! Our city is still reaping from the horror of it all.

Happy Birthday Rags!!!!! Isn't it the 22nd? I'm too lazy to go back and check... Anyway, have a good weekend and a GREAT birthday!

At Costa Maya, we did not stay in that first shopping plaza. We took a cab to the beach area. Dont get me wrong, beach was pretty and all. We walked way down the beach area, bought some little gifts. My 8 yr old got her hair braided for very cheap:thumbsup2 . We stopped at some little bar, me and my husband had some Mango margaritas:thumbsup2 YUMMO... then we walked back to wear the cabs were at, and went back to the ship.

I go to Cruise critic all the time. They are a wealth of info over there:thumbsup2

Yes, my birthday is the 22nd (Sunday) and although we are getting internet today, I will be avoiding the internet all weekend so I can read Harry Potter :wizard:

Aww, thank you WendyGrace! ;) We do enjoy her... can't believe we just purchased her HIGH SCHOOL uniforms... too fast....

If I don't know where we are going, I always check mapquest AND randmcnally and one other one I can't remember now - and then I put my parents address in also... so I can "compare" - because sometimes it is ridiculous what "best route" comes up! Sorry to hear of your scenic route.:sad1:

So - Amanda couldn't get through the week? What was her take on it, since the counselors sounded as if she was doing ok? :confused3

Thank you all!

Dana has already seen the new movie twice! I will try to get her a copy of the new book this weekend... she and Bob have read them all together. (it is NOT my favorite genre, so I stay clear! :rolleyes1 ) The local Barnes & Noble is having a party at midnight and asked me if I'd like to help out, but again, since it's not my "genre" :goodvibes I couldn't see myself in the middle of all of that in the middle of the night! lol NOW.... if it were the re-release of "GONE WITH THE WIND"......:rotfl:

Okay...how many out there are Harry Potter fans and who has read the books? I have never read any of the books and have only watched bits and pieces of the movies when they were on TV. So, do I need convincing? I do like reading...

Books 1 & 2 are small and very easy to read. You could probably get away with just watching those two movies (the 2nd movie is almost dead on to the book)

I think the series gets going on book 3, also the books get much longer. I would not recomend skipping this book (I do think this was the best movie on it's own, but don't think it did the book justice in explaing some of the things that needed to be explained. I had to explain a key scene in the movie after watching it to someone who had only seen the movies)

Book 4 was OK, but (without having seen movie 5) did the best job as a movie and following the book

Book 5 was my favorite so far, book 6 I really liked the 2nd time I read it

I'll let you know my thoughts on Book 7 in about a week:cool1:

I don't blame you- as much as I cannot wait to read the book, I am staying FAR AWAY from the midnight parties. I will go to Target tomorrow morning, pick up the book, and read it for most of the day

My other plan was I was going to go to a late showing of the movie, then go to a 24 hour Stop & Shop (supermarket) and pick up my copy on the way home

I have the book on order and will hopefully be reading as much as possible with all the craziness I have going on this weekend. Dh already has dibs on it for Sunday. He'll finish it within a couple days though. Michael has started reading the first HP as a chapter book and we have seen all the movies except the new one. We want to but haven't been able to get anyone to watch the kids with all that's going on right now. We don't want to take them right away as they are getting darker and darker. The first books are definetly "light reads" but as Harry gets older, so does the tone of the books. I truly enjoy them. I can't wait for the new book on Saturday.

I have not read the books... nor do I plan to. We have all the movies on DVD, and will get the new one when released. I don't take my kids to the theater to see the moies since they are pretty intense. We watch them at home, and when it gets too intene, the kid will wander off to play. It is not uncommon for it to take them 2 or 3 showings to see the entire movie! As for the books... I can't stand to read a book after seeing the movie. I think the book ruins the movie, as the book is always better. If I want to do both, then I do read the book first... never the movie first! I love reading Michael Crichton (sp?) books such as Jurassic Park series, Leviathon, Congo, etc. The movies don't come anywhere close to those books!

It is definitely interesting to hear how many people are into Harry Potter. I may have to try it out.

I have previously been a big fan of Stephen King (my favorite being The Stand uncut version) and some Dean Koontz. I did like Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park. Of course, I had to read The DaVinci Code and that was really good reading despite the controversy.

I got some pics of hurricane damage from my mom's house. Please forgive the quality, but they are pics of pics, and my camera had trouble focusing on a couple of them.

This is the driveway. The pic with Wynn and I... we are clearing the driveway, and it meets the road right between us. Took us a day to clear it enough to drive out of... but couldn't get off the road for another 2!

Oh yeah, I may have to try out some of Tim Green's novels. My parents are totally into him. If you haven't heard of him, I went to high school with him and he went on to Syracuse University and then played for the Atlanta Falcons. He is a lawyer and a tv shot host and I don't know what this guy really hasn't done in his life.

I guess his recent novels have references to areas around where I live - Skaneateles Lake, which is a very lovely place.

Well I am NOT a Harry Potter fan either, just not my style. I have not read one book, or seen any movie related to Harry Potter. My son likes it though. He requested the newest Harry Potter book for his birthday.
