Hi friends...we got back from the beach last night. We had a great time!! I will try to post a couple of pics of the girls when I get them downloaded. Alyssa started swimming underwater at the end of the week AND she quit taking her paci...she really became a big girl on this trip!! Amanda had a great time but now she has an ear infection from all of the swimming!!
Welcome back. I look forward to seeing your photos, especially beach photos. :woohoo: So sweet that Alyssa stopped with the binkie. Lucky you! Don't I know about the kids with too much swimming sometimes. They have gotten swimmer's ears a couple of times.

Hi friends! :hippie: Just popping in to say hi. How are you ladies doing this evening?
Hello and welcome! It is always wonderful to have new friends to join in our fun chats!!!

I was going to post some pics tonight but we had to take Amanda to the After Hours Clinic and she has swimmer's ear. The drops that her doc called in yesterday are not working so we had to get another prescription. We just got home and I'm exhausted so not much Dising for me tonight!!

I hate that she isn't feeling any better... lots of ibuprofen! I get tickled hearing you talk about swimmers ear. Jan 2006 Tucker had been going to swimming lessons twice a week for a few months. Going to bed, he was complaining that his ear hurt, so I thought swimmers ear... naturally. I gave him ibuprofen and sent him to bed, saying we would go to the Dr in the AM (its after 11 PM at that point.) He comes back 1/2 hour later and says his ear feels like there is something in it. Long story short (too late!) we find out that he put popcorn kernals in his ears, but 1 had gotten stuck. He had dug in his ear until it was pushing on his eardrum! That stupid popcorn kernal cost me $1100 in the Pediatric ER to get it removed! Thank goodness we had insurance that paid some, but I had to pay over $600 OOP. :sad2: Everytime I hear anyone mention swimmers ear now, I get tickled!

Swimmer's Ear is very painful.. Dana's had it a few times, but the drops always worked. The best thing to do is get the drying drops OTC, and use a few in each ear after swimming a long time. Dana's actually supposed to wear ear plugs, but she doesn't like them!

Did the doctor tell you to have Amanda use earplugs in the shower?

The drops take a couple of days to work. I don't know what the doc gave but our Rx was for 7 days. Alec started feeling better after almost 3 days. I kept giving ibuprofen to help with the pain while the Rx started to work.

Ha! This year Brooke put a popcorn kernel up one nostril. I had to take her to the peds first and they could barely see it. Then they were going to try to get it out with some small forceps. While the ped was gone, Brooke was lying on the table and handed me the kernel. What?! She said it just came out. When the ped came back, I showed it to her and she tore up our visit sheet so we wouldn't have to pay. Thank goodness!

My hairdresser's little imp of a daughter did the same thing... only it was so stuck that they were going to have to bring her to the ER and have her sedated to get it out... She brought her home from the dr office, and was waiting for her husband to meet her to go over to the ER, when DD came over to her and said, "Here Mommy - blew nose, came out"... LOL:rotfl:

Just back from dropping Mr. Mocha at "the Inn" and waiting for Bob to leave the office, then we are "on our way"...:beach:

Last time we went, Bob won enough at the craps table in Atlantic City to pay for the Cape May portion of the trip! :cool1: Here's hoping that happens again!!! :woohoo:

Bringing the new laptop, so, as long as there really IS "free wireless internet" as promised, I can keep up to date! Don't think I'll be able to post pictures until we come home, though.. I'm still "figuring out" all the bells & whistles!

Ciao! :dance3:

I just need my dis friends right now. It's been a really bad day for me. We took my dog to the groomer's this morning for her hair to be cut. We go to pick her up to find out she needs stitches cause she jerked when they were cleaning her and they cut her. We rushed her to the vet where they had to put her to sleep to fix her ear. They then tell us they found a tumor under her tongue so she goes back on the 13th to have her teeth cleaned and the tumor removed and sent away for testing. I'm just shook up and have been shaking for over a good hour.

Mandy - Oh dear. I feel badly for you. It's like a double whammy for you all at once. I hope everything works out for you. I hate to ask this because everyone is different but what do you plan on doing regarding the tumor?

We are going to remove it and go from there.

Mandy--- I am truthfully so sorry to hear about your dog. I know you must be devastated. I will pray for her.... I really hope everything goes well with the surgery and with her ear...

Thank you Court. I'm more nervous about the tumor. She's home with us right now a bit drunk from the gas they gave her. She can't eat for a while. I just am so mad but upset also.

Wow!! That sounds like an ordeal!!

No, the doctor didn't tell us about earplugs for the shower...that is a good idea though!! She is feeling a little better today but she woke me up crying last night becuase she was in so much pain...I went to her room and stayed up with her for about 2 1/2 hours. The doctor told me to cup my hands and blow hot air into her ear and then put cotton in it. So I did that a few times in the middle of the night when I was up with her.

Mandy - I'm so sorry about your doggie! I hope everything turns out to be OK with her.

Mandy... I am so sorry that your day went that way. Much as I hate to say it... be very thankful that the groomers did cut her ear, or you may not have found the tumor until much later. The earlier they catch those things, the better the chances for a good outcome. Let us know when you find out.

Renee... Have fun down the shore! Wish I were going!

Courtney... I was thinking about you today. We are having your chicken for dinner tonight, and it smells YUMMO!

Sonya... glad to hear Amanda feels a little better today.

WendyGrace... when is Michael's surgery? I was thinking it was soon... :confused3

Alright! I think I am caught up now. I have been doing :laundy: all day, and trying to get the kids packed for their trip. They have to be at the airport at 5 AM! :scared1: I will be so glad when I know they are safely on the ground in Chicago!

She's doing ok, sleeping like she does best. The fun part is coming up, my sister has left me the job of calling the groomers and telling them the price it cost for all of this. All I have to say is why me.

Another quick update: We talked with the owner, they are saying that this happened when they were brushing her hair. Yet the note said when they were cutting her. She did say to send a copy of the bill.

I have to call the vet tomorrow to see about getting her a cone so she won't scratch her ear.

Thanks so much guys. I love you all. :grouphug:
