'Morning, Marshay! Wouldn't that be "loverly"! ;) (.... Sorry. Couldn't help myself. 'Just saw My Fair Lady at the Kennedy Center.)

So are you going to get tix to Lion King?

Justin -- how long was the show?

I'm trying to find someone who will babysit for us for about 8 hours and not charge the going rate of $10/hr in our area!!!

Oh my goodness - -- - one night out with my friends and I wake up to 9 pages of posts to catch up on! I can't read that fast . . . .

WELCOME to Karrie and Amanda. Your videos are wonderful and it is great to have you here! Whenever this process is over, please promise you'll stick around!

As for the show . . . I honestly have no idea how long it was (which is a good thing as far as theater is concerned - it means I wasn't looking at my watch). I'm guessing it was around 2 hours. Act One is definitely (as is often the case) longer than Act Two, but it felt like it went by so quickly.

Sorry that wasn't more helpful!

Once I again, I'm feeling a little technological inferiority complex coming on. I have some serious catching up to do. I think I might be the only 20-something male in America without a myspace or facebook page and I've never designed a website. I'm guessing going door-to-door to get votes is a little 19th century, huh? Maybe if I take girl scout cookies with me . . . . ?

Nope, but I am a writer.

Ooooh! A mystery! ;)

Okay. I think I've successfully managed to figure it out. :thumbsup2 (Brady's article helped me a bit -- along with that web link embedded in each of your posts.)

Speaking of which, have you been getting a lot of "hits" on your site as a result? (Is there a way to track which ones were redirected from the latimes.com vs. the DISboards)?

Apparently I need to find a way to be on here at night - - -a lot more action that time of day!

I'd certainly like to go. (I, like you, have only been to a handful of events at The Kennedy Center, and I have always wanted to see The Lion King...) :thumbsup2

Justin or Cat (our resident Lion King resources): Do you think it's a bit too scary for a five-year-old? (We have yet to allow our DD to watch the movie. Of course, she'll be closer to six by then.) Our DS2 would have to stay with a sitter or friends.

I was sort of hoping that the musical glosses over some of the scarier parts of the storyline -- and maybe focuses more on the music, regal costumes, and such... Of course, a date night (sans kids) would be nice, too!

I hear you, Marshay, (about the high price of living around these parts -- babysitters included)! It certainly makes a person think twice! :sad2: Have you considered a matinee? (It may feel less "date-like," but it also could be cheaper ... I hope. :confused3 )

Well - I'm always a fan of a "date night" but I completely understand that the cost of a sitter, etc, is pretty huge these days.

As for the age - I think a 5 - almost 6 - year old would be fine. There were a lot of younger kids there when I saw it Thursday. The musical, because it is live theater, enhances certain parts of the story more than others. There are still dark moments - the hyenas in the elephant graveyard, - the stampede, etc. It still deals with all of the same issues as the movie and -for me at least - the death of Mufasa and other moments were more emotional live than they were in the film.

SO, there are probably moments to prepare her for, but I think it is a great show to take a child to. I'm a big fan of introducing your kids to live theater. Plus, the costumes, music, lighting, staging, are all so spectacular that it is a blast to experience live. Just the giraffes alone could keep her mesmerized for a while!

Mmmmm.... You know, that just might work! (I'm a little torn, however, as to whether or not you should skip the little green jumper and matching beanie when you go!) :lmao: Eww!! Sorry! (... So sorry for that visual!)

Really??? I've been working out 5 days a week just to fit into that jumper! well at least I can still wear the sash with all my patches, right?

Yeah, that's prob what we'll have to do...I just fell in love with the idea of dinner, theater, maybe some drinks afterwards -- you know, like you could do before children!! :rotfl2:

...Part of the reason why I'm seriously considering this. I've heard such great things about it. I remember when The Lion King first debuted on Broadway; it was "sold out" for quite some time. We'll see...

We just took our daughter to a matinee performance of My Fair Lady -- her first true theater experience. Several people actually stopped us in the lobby with encouraging remarks. One even shared that it was the first musical she saw (at about the same age), and she has loved theater ever since. DD got a bit antsy towards the end of the musical, but -- overall -- it was a good experience. We still listen to the soundtrack and sing along... :thumbsup2

Oh, no worries...you can start looking into a myspace account now and Disney sounds like they will help a little bit there.

And don't count out your DIS buddies -- I, for one, am a SAHM so my fellow DISsers who make the Top 10 can count on at least a million votes from me!:lmao:

Were you guys on here last night? Did you see the link to the LA Times website/blog? It gives you a chance to practice your online voting skills!

Sash = Yes!

Jumper ... How about we conduct a little online poll? (Brady, could you spearhead that for us? ;) )

Speaking of Brady's poll: I'm a tad confused. I think I must not be seeing the same thing on my computer screen as everyone else, because it wasn't immediately clear to me who was in the lead.

The show, from a costume, puppetry, technology perspective is one of those landmark achievements in musical theater. Honestly. It won several Tony awards for Julie Taymor (who directed and designed the costumes and puppets) because of the incredibly imaginitive way it blends live actors and costumes to create a truly magical effect. Pretty Disney if you ask me!

The red line with a percentage attached to it is ABOVE the name of the contestant. (when I logged in Andy had 40% of the vote and his name is under mine - I mistakenly thought that I had 40% . . . quickly though I realized my error and remembered how happy I am just to be included at all!)

I must have been looking in the wrong place. I read the article, of course. Then, by clicking through, I came to a list of contestants with "check-boxes" -- for lack of a better word -- by their names. No percentages, no red lines, nothing... Just a stark list of names. :confused3

Okay, I've 'gotta log off for a bit. :wave2: I'll check back in later -- and may discover a bazillion new pages to read.
