just wanted to confirm the Sawyer Award criteria...since we are trying to keep this positive (!), we are not looking for the worst use of technology (although that would be really funny!!) but rather we are looking for the best video that does not use any/minimal technology, right? ie., no animation, no pixie dust, no magically turning a girl into a princess

Now if we were trying to be funny, I'd go for someone that did a bad use of technology (reminds me of the "poof" lady who put a piece of paper in front of the camera in order to disappear...

Please confirm the direction you all were thinking on this one ... or should we do both?

We have another category for non-computer special effects...

This is why I think you are good for the Sawyer E. Gordon Award... you can walk that line. Not making fun.. but pointing out an "Oops!"

Make sense?

Ooops, I didn't see the non-computer special effects category..OK:

I keep a close watch on [these videos] of mine
I keep my eyes wide open all the time
I keep the ends out for the [technology] that binds
Because you're [my category], I walk the line

In case anyone wants to include this on the signature during the week...

If using it from the post doesn't work, its on my website's DIScademy page.

Should it be smaller?

Marshay, I think you're on the right track. I like your idea of "bad use of technology" (such as "Poof Lady" - who, btw, will be appearing in the list of nominations for "Best Nickname Generated"). Her use of "technology" -- or lack thereof -- is funny, but it's intentional and very tongue-in-cheek. We're not making fun of her failure to use technology properly; we're laughing with her as she makes the best use of her limited technological resources.

Am I making any sense here -- or just rambling? I'm going to PM you another possible candidate, who makes good use of a "talking" stuffed Mickey.

yes, make it smaller...the DIS only allows so many lines before it cuts off stuff.

Cool! And all suggestions for candidates are welcome!!

Ooops! 'Just noticed fleagle's reply to your earlier post. So, I guess I'll be PM'ing the person who is handling the "Non-Computer Special Effects" category instead.

Hmmm... Let me go check the list...

I'm ok with making the Sawyer E. Gordon to be the best use of non-tech. Because we don't want to be making fun.. what do you think?

Hmmm, then maybe the non-computer effects and Best Not Technology will overlap??? I first thought Fleagle meant this was the NON-Technology category but sounds like it could go either way...I'm probably just overthinking because it's late...

I'll read all your thoughts on this category tomorrow.

G'nite!

I think that makes more sense -- otherwise the two categories may just overlap...you can add another category to replace the Non-Computer Effects if you want.;)

Speech written..... now if Calvin Klein would just call me to offer me use of a nice tux......

I wash thinking of wearing blue jeans, cowboy boots, a t-shirt with the sleeves removed and a business in front/party in back hairstyle for the awards, what do you guys think?

...might I also add that I am o.k. with the fact that I will not be eligible for the Gordon E. Sawyer award...

How about the James F. "Sawyer" award to the best redneck video!
