Discuss the "new" menus here

Can anyone confirm if this is for lunch and dinner, having the same menu?

I can confirm this. Had this problem while we were there 10/14-10/22.

I will say that the restaurants are willing to try and work with you (except Coral Reef) Primetime got DS a chicken leg and mashed potatoes.

Most places would allow Ds to get apples for an appetizer and then get the ice cream for dessert no matter what he ordered.

In an effort to provide some information, here is an overview of the new kids menu. To summarize, it appears many, if not all, Table Service restaurants (except restaurants with buffets or that serve family style, and possibly some Signature dining restaurants) will now start serving three set items on all kids menus at restaurants owned by Disney:

Pita Pizza - with diced chicken and mozzarella cheese, served with shredded vegetable salad and brown-sugar apples $7.49

Just Dip It - assorted fruits, vegetables, chicken salad and yogurt $7.49

Chicken Strips - served with barbecue sauce, sweet potato sticks, green beans, carrots and yogurt parfait $7.49

In addition to this, there will be at least two other "Kids Pick" (or a la carte) items that include choice of appetizer (generally a salad or soup), entree, and dessert (generally a fruit salad or ice cream). These choices, especially the entrees, vary by restaurant.

Although some initial reports suggested these new menus were being fairly strictly enforced, more recent reports show that some restaurants also have other options for kids not listed on the new children's menus, so you can ask servers for other options. You also can ask for substitutions for specific items in the set meals. Implementation seems to be spotty - sometimes the wait staff is happy to assist in making substitutions, in other cases a strict "no substitutions" policy has been enforced.

The following is a list of confirmed sightings of the new kids' menu, with a la carte choices in parentheses. Again, there may be additional options besides those listed, so ask your server!

(Note: feel free to post additions and I will try to incorporate them into this list)

Magic Kingdom:
Liberty Tree Tavern lunch (Mac & Cheese; Kid's Feast - turkey/mashed potato/green beans)
Tony's Town Square (Mac & Cheese; spaghetti and meatball)

MGM:
Sci Fi (Mac & Cheese; Hamburger)
50's Prime Time Cafe
Mama Melrose's
Brown Derby

EPCOT:
Coral Reef -- seems to have a broader kids' menu, with choices including gilled mahi-mahi, grilled chicken, pasta and cheese pizza
Le Cellier -- also seems to have a broader kids' menu, with choices including
a 6 oz Steak, cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, grilled chicken, hotdog, and pasta.

Resorts:
Boatwright's - Port Orleans (Mac & Cheese; Hamburger)
Spoodles - Boardwalk
Grand Floridian Cafe - Grand Floridian (Mac & Cheese; Hamburger)
Kona Cafe - Polynesian (Mac & Cheese; Hamburger)
Concourse Steakhouse - Contemporary (Mac & Cheese; Hamburger)

Downtown Disney:
Cap'n Jack's

Finally, there are reports that the new kids' menu is not being implemented at restaurants not owned by Disney. These non-Disney restaurants are keeping their existing menu. This includes:

EPCOT: Chefs de France, Alfredos, Teppanyaki, Marrakesh, Nine Dragons, and San Angel Inn.
Maya Grill
Rainforest Cafe
Planet Hollywood
Big River Grill
ESPN

the DVC board is reporting that Olivia's has taken on the terrible new children's menu as well...

I am pleased to tell you today that Disney is moving in a positive new direction by providing a healthier range of food choices for parents and kids.

There's nothing wrong with adding choices but when you take other "choices" away, well that's just wrong. That's not choice, that is dictating what Disney thinks is appropriate. We are going in December and taking our DGS8 and we want to sit down and order what he likes. Gracious people, it's Disney World.

We paid for the DDP this time but if the childrens food looks on the plate like it does in the pictures, never again.

We returned yesterday. This is what we observed with the kids menus:

At Prime time: They do have the new kids menu but on request will do a kids chicken, meatloaf, or pot roast. DD chose the pot roast.

Signature restaurants (Yachtsman and Cali) still have the "old" menu.

Mama Melroses has the new menu. Yes, one of the options for an entree is the spaghetti. DD used to love the pasta 3 ways and unfortunately that is off the menu. We talked to the waiter regarding this and he said that the menu was going to be changing in another couple of weeks (again).

IMO, we have always looked at our vacations to try things new and different. The new menu for kids takes the adventure out of dining.

We also noticed that the drinks at the various resorts are also becoming more mass produced. Everywhere we went was the same single offering for the blue million dreams martini. I dread going to the Yachtsman in February and not seeing the singnature cosmpolitan or their gold cup (DH's favorite).

Could you tell me what the a la cart things are at 50's prime time. TIA I had heard a few different things

There are 4 pages of talk just on this thread alone.... I just wonder if all of you have emailed Disney to voice your concern with them??

I agree 100% that it is not a good change, but I think ALL we need to tell Disney how we feel LOUD AND CLEAR, over and over and over .......

I just can not imagin that Disney will keep this change knowing that it has not made anyone happy :confused3

Yes I did ..... I spoke to someone on the phone also but I am not totally trusting the info they have in thier computers

Okay, I have been reading here and there about the restaurants in Disney but not too much b/c we are not ones to do a lot of TS meals, we rather just wing it and eat what we can find, we are too busy enjoying the parks to worry about eating. Anyway, my question is this, I am reading that all the childrens menus are changed at TS restaurants but that is also the case at CS, too?? My dd will eat nothing over there except french fries, nuggets, and pizza. Will she have to live off of pizza the entire time we are there???? Thanks for any info on this, sorry if it has been addressed a thousand times, I just need to be prepared ahead of time if this is the case.

Some places have changed and others have not. Check on the dining at the top and go to menues. This shows some of them. Good luck :grouphug:

I am seeing little tid-bits about new kids menus in nice table-service restaurants....is this correct ???
Can someone let me know the scoop.
I just read another Dining Review about LeCellier that mentioned that their server was hesitant to offer the New Kids Menu cause the old menu was better for kids......
Going in 9 days with 2 DD's ages 8 and 5, so Was Curious.

Thanks for replies & info.

just to let you know we leave for the world in 3 weeks we haven't purchased the dining plan because of the menu changes but we phoned yesterday and the cm on phone confirmed that most of TS restaurants are changing and by next year their thinking all TS and CS restaurants will have healtheir menu the gentlemen on the phone said that even if he was to bring his children he would have a hard time finding something for them to eat all he could say is that if we thought we wouldn't use the dining plan to its full potential that it may not be agood think to purchase

nuggets and fries are still available at most CS places. Take a deep breath and relax. Have a great vacation.

You keep saying this, but WHERE? I don't see in on the new menus ANYWHERE for counter service, and people are all over these boards saying THEY WERE TURNED DOWN when they asked for these items.

So please, share the knowledge, and list specific places.

Thanks for Info!
Going in 9 days, so I would like to know what we are in for with our 2 kiddies.
Yikes !

Fries are EVERYWHERE. In the fine print on EVERY menu billboard it says that fries are available upon request. Off hand, counter service at the waterparks, Roaring Forks at WL, Floatworks at POR, and the CS at French Quarter all have nuggets. Pretty sure that we got them at Columbia House at MK, too. Yes, you will be turned down if you walk up to a CS place and they aren't on the menu because that means that they kitchen won't stock them.
Seriously, though. All of you who are stating that your kids only eat.... (fill in 2 items).... is that all you feed them at home???? I have 3 kids of my own and, while they are somewhat picky, I just can't buy "My kid only eats grilled cheese and nuggets".
