Discovery Island

I remember when I was young Discovery Island was an attraction. Being a kid at Disneyworld, and from a city with 2 great zoos, (Chicago) I was never interested. Now it's closed (I think) but it looks like it still functions as something. Does anyone know what it is now and if there is any way to go see it these days?

That is a good question. Although, I don't know the answer so I won't be able to help you. Hey I'm also from Chicago!

I only got to visit Discover Island once, it was in March 1999. I was a student in the last class that ever got to visit DI. It wasn't that interesting. I hope that they do something with it, it would be a waste of cute little island

DI is currently not used at all, in fact they changed the name of "Safari Village" at DAK to Discovery Island.

Some of the uses that were considered for DI were a full-blown version of the game "MYST" and also thought was given to converting it to luxury Honeymoon Suites. The only problem is that it would only be accessible by boat and what would happen in a medical emergency.

I can't remember where I read it but I seem to recall they still use the island but only for special occasions and private gathering and the such. Anyone else hear or read this??...smjj

Last summer we saw a yacht docked at Discovery Island. I have absolutely no idea what was going on though.

one of the boat captains that shuttle folks back and forth between FW and MK told us the same thing once.
