I was thinking about getting the Elite Package as I know we will end up wanting to buy the photos and DVD. Also want to be guaranteed shade all day. We are visiting with my brothers family. Only problem is there are 7 of us, 4 adults a 12 year old and two 6 year olds. Now I doubt very much that there will be a time when all 7 of us will be at the cabana as we will be busy exploring with the children. However it would be nice for the adults to take it in turns to have somewhere in the shade to relax.

So will we be allowed to rent one even though there are 7 in our party? No longer an ok deal if we have to rent 2 cabanas so I wouldn't bother.

If we can't, is there plenty of shade around, umbrella's etc.

This is our first DC visit even though its our 10th Orlando visit so I want it to be special. I was also going to surprise everyone on the day.

Just found this on another thread:

Thank you for contacting Discovery Cove. We always enjoy hearing from our guests, especially when we can be of assistance in planning their day.

Private cabanas can be reserved no earlier than 3 weeks in advance. They include a shaded structure, table and chairs, lounge chairs, and a beverage refrigerator all tucked within the lush landscaping. They are $175 per group of six ($186.38 including tax), and can be added to your reservation by contacting the Reservations Center at 1-877-4DISCOVERY or 00 800 33 44 1818 from the U.K. or 1-407-370-1280 from other international countries. Groups larger than 6 guests may require the purchase of an additional cabana.

It might be worth contacting them and asking if they would allow your party of 7 to rent just the one cabana on the basis that it is unlikely all 7 of you would use it at the one time.

Otherwise, yes, to my memory, there is plenty of shade available at DC in terms of umbrellas, shaded areas.

I purchased the Elite Package last year but there were only 3 of us. I'm not 100% certain but I believe that the cabanas are for up to 6. If this is the case, then you would be stuck buying 2 cabanas because you are assigned an attendant from the moment you arrive. They collect you when you get there, they escort you to the cabana and they pop in on you very regularly to bring you fresh towels, snacks and drinks. Hence, they WILL know that you are a bigger party than 6.

Could you not book for a party of 6 and if they ask just say that the others you are with don't want a cabana and are happy to just sit nr you? I can't imagine the kids will stay in it very long and so even if assigned somebody they probably won't have a huge issue if you just say that they are popping in to visit? ( that's what I would do anyways lol)

In theory, your idea would work, in practice, I honestly don't think it will. The cabanas are in a separate area that other guests are not allowed to access and there are staff there to stop people. There is an assigned server/assistant who goes from cabana to cabana checking to see if guests want anything and there are also staff seated in the area who stop people going into the area. My suggestion would be instead of buying the elite package, consider renting 2 cabanas which would be around the same cost. You might be able to get a coupon for discount on the pictures/video.

Good news. I sent an email direct to DC to ask if I could book for 7 and they sent back very nice email saying I could. I think this was due to having 2 little ones with us, maybe not possible if all adults. So all sorted. Definitely wouldn't have paid for 2 cabanas.

Fab I did think that they wouldn't mind as you had the 2 little ones, and it was tech only 1 child over the limit.
