We just booked our airfare for May 28th- June 4th and then we looked up the historical weather for that time of year and noticed it said that June was the rainiest month!

What happens if it pours while we are at DC or Aquatica? Is there a chance we will pay all that money and miss out on our Dolphin swim??

Does it tend to rain mostly in the afternoons then or mornings?

It's not IF it pours it's WHEN it pours. It rains pretty much every single day from Mid May until late September in Central Florida. The storms always pop up in the afternoon anywhere between 3:00pm and 8:00pm and the storms can be pretty severe. Most of the time though they pass rather quickly. Usually within an hour and most of the times less than that. So it won't be a total washout. You will just have around an hour of thunder, lightning, heavy rain and wind. And then it stops.

I would schedule your dolphin swim for the morning so you get the experience before the afternoon storms roll around. Because storms are mostly brief, it shouldn't ruin your day. I would just get there early and plan to leave before or around 3:00. Or if your brave enough, stick it out until the storm passes. Maybe you'll get lucky and Florida will be in a rare dry spell.

We were at DC in late August and it did rain, during out dolphin swim (BTW, you cannot schedule your dolphin swim. It's scheduled for you when you arrive at check in). We had a 12:20 dolphin swim and about 1/2 way in it started thundering and lightening. We had to go back to the Starfish cabana and just wait it out. They brought in waters, towels and snacks and we waited about 45 minutes and headed back out to finish out swim and photo ops with the dolphins and then we carried on with our day.

We also were at Aquatica one day when it rained. Again, around lunch time. This storm lasted a bit longer, but we waited it out at a table at one of the resturants and then continued our day.

Bas1873,we were there the same day with the same Dolphin swim time. I remember your name from the old DC cabanas/freshwater oasis threads. It wasn't too bad for us either. That was our first time at DC where the daily storm came through that early. I haven't been in June, have been on four fairly long August trips and have only experienced a 5-6 days w/o rain, but have also only experienced a couple days where the rain was so persistent that the day was washed out.

Lightning, thunder, ugh! This doesn't sound good. The whole reason for our trip across the country is for DC and the dolphin swim. I just booked yesterday too. I wonder if I should cancel and try for our October break. Any ideas on that???

In FL, you can get thunder & lightening at any time. It's just how it is there. I'm glad we went in August, when it was hot outside, because the water in the Grand Reef & the Dolphin Cove was FREEZING. If it had been cold outside, I would not have been happy. But I'm a summer loving, heat & humidity girl, so that's just me. It's stilll pretty warm in FL in October, but can be cooler. I would also think October would be less crowded which would be nice too.

I booked May because I'm very worried about the humidity of the summer so I though if it has to be summertime then the earlier we go the better. Being in Az where there is almost no humidity, we don't tolerate it well. We leave just a few days after our kids get out of school.

October was really my second choice as we could only go one specific week because of my kids fall break. We only travel on their school breaks now that they are in high school and middle school. The thing about going in Oct is that we would be gone the whole break and would get back the day before they have to go back to school not giving them anytime to rest and recover from a long trip across the country. I think it would be too much for all of us.

Well, it is what it is. And its going to be a blast still! Our game plan is to try and check in at DC by 8 or maybe even earlier if they are open to get the earliest possible dolphin swim.

OK. I had in my head you were going in June. I hear May is a great time to be at WDW so I would imagine it's the same for DC. I say keep the May plans and have a great time. We did. The hour storm didn't damper our day AT ALL!

We got to DC about 7:45. Check in goes really fast (and we were there on a sold out day). I was happy with the 12:20 swim time because it gave us time for breakfast, we were then escorted to our cabana and then we went and got our snorkel gear and then explored DC. We spent most of our time in the GRAND REEF. DH wanted to come back the very next day. We really enjoyed our day a lot. We'll be back.
