Hi guys, we are back from Gatlinburg. We had an AWESOME time, can't put it into words. I took over 100 pictures and have a TON to share with you so look for a little mini TR on that in the next few days. I am uploading them to photobucket as I type this.

AS FOR THE DISNEY NEWS!!!!

I BOUGHT OUR ANNUAL PASSES TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1:

I am so excited to officially be annual pass holders and can't wait for the vouchers to arrive, and better yet put them to good use!!!!!:yay:

THE OTHER BIG NEWS............... we are considering flying now. After being in the car for only 5 hours to Gatlinburg and hearing Lauren asking if we were there yet over and over again I'm starting to question the driving thing. That PLUS the fact we'll be driving 10 hours each way for Spring Break AND the airfare is INCREDIBLE on Delta, DIRECT flights from Cincinnati, 690.00 for the four of us nonstop round trip.
Your thoughts??????????????:confused3

With a price like that for flights, I would fly -- any driving trip over seven hours always seems like an eternity to me.

Hurray for owning annual passes!!! So cool!

Glad you had a great time!

I would fly, hands down. After driving 9 hours in the car to visit my family at Christmas time, I can tell you first hand, it sucks. Of course my kids are a lot smaller than yours, but it was even hard on my DH and me. Add in the price of tickets and I wouldn't even think twice!

Awww, I can't wait to see your Gatlinburg pics!! We were actually supposed to be there this week but had to cancel due to Chad having a medical procedure today! So, I can't wait to see them!!

How cool for the AP's!!!

You know, I'd still drive. Flying is cheap(ish) and quick (and therefore easier for kids to handle patience-wise), but the memories you make with a road trip are priceless. You may need to bring more things to keep Lauren's mind occupied, but it could be so much fun! Some people make those paper chain links and the kids tear one off each day coming up to the trip - you could do something similar in your car. Lauren and Luke could rip one off for every hour, which will help them grasp visually how much time is left. You could even form it in the shape of a Mickey head, or connect the seats with it, or something like that. You could play visual "Bingo." Look up sights you might encounter along the way, and as Lauren and Luke see them, they check them off. First to get a Bingo wins some Disney bucks! Or you could make a "bet" - whoever asks the fewest times "are we there yet" wins Disney bucks or gets to pick the first ride at Disney. Bring Disney music from the parks, play Disney 20 questions, let them watch Disney DVDs, etc. And the convenience of having your car there will be nice. Just my thoughts, but I like the drive. Since Lauren's had that experience, she'll be more prepared next time. My niece is 3, and she can do it. We just have to keep her occupied. If you're really worried, you could surprise them: put them to bed at their usual time, and when you're sure they in deep sleep, pack them in the car and go! That way, they are less likely to wake up from being moved to the car, and you get several hours in before they realize they are already close to Disney! I love being in Orlando 2 hours after we leave Ohio, but I love even more the conversations and laughter we have and pretty sunsets and weird road signs/cars/drivers we see. :thumbsup2

Donaldsgal has some great ideas, and I had suggested that we drive from Kansas for our June trip.......but we are flying, so I say fly baby, fly!

Like I told you before, when we went in Nov., we drove 10 hours and it was a lot. We had to get a hotel 7 hours into the trip on the way down b/c it was just too much for us and our DD who is 5. She did the same thing as Lauren and she just had to get out of the car and get rid of some energy. And I had a mountain of stuff for her to do. She had crafts, movies, games, etc. and all of it was new (stuff I had been collecting for months before the trip). I called them Mickey prizes and she got one every 30 minutes or so if she was "good". But she was still miserable after 7 hours because she is a very active child and couldn't stand sitting that long. It's a lot to ask of kids that young. Every child is different though b/c other kids I know do much better with it than mine did. But DH says we will NOT drive again. I've been looking into the cost of flying and Amtrak. Amtrak is cheap and we can take the night train and sleep for most of the trip, but it is still a 12-15 hour trip. So I feel your pain.......... we can't decide how to get there either. But since you don't mind flying, I think that would be best if you can afford it. But then again, I have never been on a Disney bus at the 4th of July either:scared1: :scared: . This is a tough one. Good luck.

Can't wait to hear about your mini trip

Yay on the APs:cool1:

I would go with flying:thumbsup2

To be there in under 3 hrs, versus 10 hrs...no brainer for me, with my 5 yr old:laughing:

In my case, it would be 20 hrs of driving:scared1:

For that price I would fly! It is nice to have a car to get to the parks, but that is a long way to drive. It wears on your body being in a car that long. JMO. We drove it 12 hours straight, and it was hard on my two, and they were 8 and 13 at the time.

If the Disney buses are crazy busy, consider a taxi. DD and I got a taxi from DTD to Pop and the fair was worth not having to stress about whether we would get back in time or not.

FLY....its faster!!!;)

When asked drive or fly, my thoughts are always to fly! I love! "Ladies and gentlemen on behalf of so and so airlines we welcome you to ORLANDO international airport. We know you have a choice when you fly..." The smell of the airport, MAGICAL EXPRESS!! That truly "Vacation" feeling. Your trip probably won't be effected either way in the sense that its going to be awesome whether you fly or drive, but I love to fly!

I vote for flying too... although from here it is like 24 hrs and when I can get there in 3.5hr.. I would never consider flying... my limit to drive in a car is 4 hrs...

Plus it is more Disney time for you...Fly..just my opinion.
Angela

Okay, people. I know there were more people encouraging Lesley to drive a few pages back.*tap tap* Is this thing on? :lmao: I still say drive, but I'm shouting in the middle of a hurricane, apparently. ;) :goodvibes
