Discover Bonus Question

March's bonus is grocery stores for 5%. Does anyone know what qualifies as grocery? I do 95% of my grocery shopping at wal-mart, I would like to know if that counts since not all do grocery.

They don't have a list on their web-site.

Normally it is just grocery stores for the 5% bonus, not stores like walmart or target.

I also signed up, and I do all my shopping at WalMart. I think I'll try calling. I've heard people say they had to call to get this fixed.

Just went into my acct. online and did a live chat with someone who basicaly said 'sorry but Walmart is not considered a grocery store' I guess the fact that they may be the biggest retailer in the world does'nt count! I told her that her Co. should rethink this as far as the Supercenter locations go. All grocery stores sell other merchandise too. I can't afford to spend 15% more at a small grocery store just to get 5% cashback bonus.

It's only on the first $200 in grocery store purchases, anyway. I do about 75% of my grocery shopping at Walmart, I go to the grocery store for produce, seafood and meats, so I'll still spend $200 at Stop and Shop this month to get the max bonus.

I'd guess that Discover probably doesn't count Walmart in this promotion because Walmart likely has a deal with them to pay a smaller merchants fee, while most grocery stores don't have as much pull to negotiate that smaller fee as Walmart does.

Thanks for the updated info. Too bad for us walmart shoppers. I also thought about just doing safeway for a couple of weeks. But it's not worth it to pay more at safeway just to get the 5% back on my purchases. I usually do a couple of small purchases per month at Raley's and Safeway, guess that will have to be good enough

In the past I have bought various gift cards at the grocery store and still received the 5% bonus. Possibly you could buy a $200 gift card to walmart at your grocery store.
