Discover Apple Pay 10% Back - In Store Purchase

That is good news! Glad it worked for you! I am not familiar with the switching idea either. Discover is the only card I have linked to apple pay right now. So, is the idea to add another card like Amex and then switch to discover when paying?

Yes, you can set a primary card in the Apple Pay settings and that is a workaround for now.

Anyone planning to buy tickets or annual passes with applepay, you can buy them outside the park at Disney Springs West Guest relations(checked out yesterday with 2 AP's). East sides Guest relations does not work the last time I tried. I also added another card as the primary to the wallet app and switched to Discover when paying(idea goes to another thread on this forum I believe).

If for some reason the above still doesn't work, try calling discover.

Afterwards went to Epcot and used it on all places that have the readers including F&W festival and merch stores.

Just wanted to share the success I got, good luck all!

Will have to try again. Went to F&W last week and still didn't work properly. Maybe they've made some progress.

So it looks like if you used Discover apple pay on 09/16 & 09/17, possibly some on 09/18 when the terms and conditions were updated, they are sending notices that they don't qualify but you are being given a one time bonus. Anything 09/19 and after are being denied.

They are using some algorithm to determine if you purchased a gift card and are denying the whole transaction and requesting you provide proof of what was not a gift card.

Sucks! Was hoping this would go through. But I'm also reading some other bloggers and it seems that even legit purchases are flagged because of their high dollar amount. Some people believe they don't have a way to determine if you have a purchase a GC or not because they don't address the dollar amount of the GC.

So it's more of a "you're guilty until proven innocent" scenario. It's pretty smart if this is true because they are effectively discouraging people.

Has anyone recieved a cash back bonus? I started using this on day 1. I have not purchased any gift cards. Just regular shopping.

Just got my November statement and no bonus yet. Just standard cash back.

I haven't received any posting yet, but of the 3 gift card purchases, I received a "one-time bonus" email for the gift cards purchased on 09/16 and 09/17. For the gift card purchased on 09/19, I got the denial email.

The one they wouldn't give the bonus for was after they changed the terms on 09/18. They wouldn't budge. They insisted that the only way I was getting any cashback bonus for it was if I provided a receipt (which I didn't keep). They offered to request it for me, but I argued and then declined. They won't say how they know a gift card purchase was made, only that they had "proprietary" algorithms. Which I am certain looks for even dollar amounts of $25 or $50, and then those amounts plus like $3.95 or $4.95 to account for fees for visa gift cards. The only one I didn't get anything back on was an odd amount where that wouldn't work, so it is probably caught up in a "large dollar amount where you don't normally shop" situation.

So my statement closed yesterday, and *some* of the 10% bonus showed up.

My statement closes on the 5th of the month. On the 11/5 statement, I got 10% back for the first 3 (9/17-9/22) charges I made on Discover with Apple Pay. The next 3 (9/27-9/29) much larger charges apparently will be on my next statement.

I spent 15 minutes on the phone with a CS rep, and this was all she could figure. It pencils out to the right number, but I don’t get why some bonus came this month and the rest will supposedly come next month…the larger transactions also posted in September, so it’s not a month end thing either.

For Posterity, here's where you can find the bonus TnC on Discover's website: https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/help-center/faqs/apple-pay.html#q22

Here's a screenshot of that page:

What ruffles my feathers is that I did what was posted. Turn them into disney gift cards and then into tickets. The closest disney store is 1.5 hours away. I understand that some people were obviously abusing the system, but I was simply doing it to save a trip. The Kroger $1.00/gallon for purchasing $250 also was a nice bonus.

has anyone tried giftcards that dont have an extra fee like buying amazon or itunes from a supermarket?

At Disneyworld today. The applepay linked with our discover card worked at the stores and quick service meal at the Magic Kingdom. Unfortunately it did not work for the Boardwalk hotel . I was told they use a different computer system than the parks. At the hotel's supposedly the applepay works with Visa and Mastercard but not when linked to the discover card. They had no explanation for why this happens. Too bad . We would have saved a lot of money.

Still good news that it worked at MK. Too bad it's not working st the hotels because it would Be nice to use it for room charges. I am still hoping that I t will work for ticket purchases at the parks.

Still a good deal if you buy park tickets at the Disney store, 22% off without all of the topcashback/card pool/target rigmarole.

Yes, it is, but I don't have a Disney store anywhere near where I live. I will definitely post back as to where it does or doesn't work for me at WDW.

I added another card to my Apple Pay - how do I know which one is my primary? I didn't see any way to change it. The only other card I have one there is my discover. And even if I can figure out how to do that, then how do you make sure that discover is the one used when you are paying?

Can you break that 22% down please? Thankyou :)

Sure.

You open a new Discover it card. It is key in that you have a new Discover card as they double your first years cash back earnings. If you already have a Discover card you can open a second one.
Discover pays a standard 1% cash back on purchases. The Apple Pay promo adds 10% cash back to purchases made using Apple Pay IN STORE only through 12/31/2015.
The Disney Store take Apple Pay so 1% (standard cash back) + 10% cash back for Apple Pay = 11%.
At the end of your first year with Discover your cash back is doubled: 11%x2= 22%.

Also a bonus, no interest on purchases for 12 months, bonus categories that earn 5% cash back each quarter.

Do you think they'll really double the promotional 10%? I can see it if they did it by total cash back dollars, but I could also see them categorizing the promotional cash back separately. If they didn't end up doubling it, 12% is still good for less hassle as going through the cardpool/target motions.

My second statement from the start of this promo closed Friday and no rewards so I called to ask. The man who helped me said this is happening to some people. He went through and added it up and said he'd manually put it in. That was Saturday & it's not showing up yet so we will see if I have to call again.
