Discover has 5x rewards for gas, hotels and theme parks this month.

Does anyone know what purchases are considered theme park purchases? I assume park passes, but what about gift shops, snack carts, restaurants in the parks...?

Same question for hotels.

In the past, Discover Card counted my WDW restaurant charges as Theme Park purchases.

that is very interesting! I didn't expect that. Well that settles it- my Discover will be my card of choice on this trip!

Thanks for posting this. I haven't looked at my Discover account in months but I need to pay the balance on my Sept trip this week. Using the card will give me enough points for a gift card!

* Earn 5% Cashback Bonus for gas (at stand alone gas stations), hotel stays, movies and admission to theme parks from 7/1/10 (or the date on which you signed up, whichever is later) through 9/30/10, subject to a cap of $300 in purchases. Hotel stays must be booked with your Discover Card directly with the hotel (either through the hotel website, over the phone or in person); reservations made through online travel websites are not eligible. Movie ticket and movie rental purchases are those made at merchants we classify as movie theaters, video rental stores, and online movie ticket and movie rental services. If a purchase is coded for a category other than those listed above, it will not qualify. These purchases must post to your account by 9/30/10.

I think you have to sign up for these bonuses; I do it on line

Arrgh. I'm not eligible because we have the Discover road/gas card that gets 5% on gasoline all the time. Did get to sign up for 5% off at drugstores during the month of Sept...for whatever that might be worth!

The cap of $300 is met pretty quickly. But I still recently signed up for a Discover card as the rewards are better then are Disney card.

I thought that too until someone here pointed out that you only earn 0.25% on the first $3000 and 1% after. Also only .25% at Wholesale clubs. I had a trip to Disney and some other bigger purchases on my Discover last year. Not charging as much this year so I use my Disney Visa for all my charges and use Discover when there is a bonus I can take advantage of. In September I'll be putting my groceries on Discover until I get to $200 limit.

could someone please explain the $300 cap. is that $300 in purchases, or $300 in rewards?

prepaying $300 towards our upcoming vacation would quickly meet the $300 in purchases if that's what the cap is. so wold that mean it's only a maximum of a $15 reward?

???

yes, no more than $15 reward

but, the $300 cap is for each category right? So
For Gas I can earn $15, theme parks $15, and hotels $15

Love my Discover, BUT always pay a little for your trip with your Disney Visa because if they offer something good, you can change over to it! My trip last March was paid 2/3 by Discover and 1/3 by Disney Visa. Later on the Disney visa offered Kids eat, stay and play free promo. I switched to it and saved a couple hundred dollars!
