Discounts are being curtailed significantly...
Iger even reiterated that when their quarterly earnings came out last week.
Two things:
Disney does not like discounts except in specific targeted areas...and by and large they have not had to worry about slashing prices too much over their history...They are spoiled and somewhat standoff-ish when it comes to this - but it has worked for them.
Second, the heavy packaging/ discounting over the last five years has been specifically in response to the housing bust and fallout that occurred. While the common man (in this country at least) has not recovered - the business world for the most part has and we're "all" booming again.
Which means that they can now cut back on the discounts and still make as much/ more money.
And it means that more people will be squeezed off the scale if this continues. Disney has always claimed "magic"...they typically don't like to claim "value".
That quarterly report indicated that they are doing just that...
My advice: as always, don't plan on any discount and make your budget/plan accordingly.
WDW has historically been one of the few places where retail price can be more or less counted on as being "normal"...and the prices do rise at a significant rate each and every year - standard.
so while they may have been more inclined to get you there with a better deal in 2010...they appear not to be willing to do so moving forward. That's for a lot of reasons...but they have always held by their pricing in the past and will continue to do so if they have any say in the matter. Right now - they do.
