Discounts Not As Deep As They Used To Be?

I am not trying to start a controversial thread so my first qualifier for this thread is that I am in no way complaining about the price of the Universal Resorts! They always have been and still are a better bang for my buck than WDW resorts. It has been my experience that I pay 25-35% more for my deluxe resort rooms at WDW than I do for the comparable rooms we stay at USF. Plus, at USF, you get FOTL which Disney can't come close to competing! I am just curious to know if anyone else feels the discounts at USF resorts are not quite as deep as they used to be and if so, what is your theory. Is the attendance at USF on the rise? People wanting the FOTL benefit? I also mostly stay on weekends which may have something to do with it. Are week day rates less expensive? Another observation I have is that the AAA rates are now often less expensive than the APH rates. Remember the Entertainment and Fan Club rates? Ohh, the good ole days! :lmao:

yes, weekends are $25 more at hrh.

when i stay at disney, i use the value all stars resorts. guess what you pay there if you don't have the disney ap?.....it's about $112.37 a night. basic rate of $99 plus 13.5% tax. add on the ressie of a preferred building and increase the base by $10 per night stay there. brings up that cheap rate to $122.37 per night.....

so i pay that for a value and for a 4.5 star, deluxe, at UO, i get a lot more for my money. Star service is fantastic. service outstanding...perks w/ loews and/or hotel.......no complaints from me.

depending on the time of year i stay at the onsite hotels at UO, can vary.
as low as $129 a night and as high as $262. it all depends on the season.

i did read that starting bookings this june for 2008, disney is changing the rate per night system. weekends will be increased to keep in touch with other hotels in the country. also, rates do not extend into other seasons.

don't think bargins will be prevelent in 2008 at disney resorts.

UO hotels honor the american express and loews reward programs, AAA, PAP for discounts and perks.

disney only allows (AAA) 10% discount on rooms only ressies, nothing for packkages. and that is only for a small portion of the rooms.
if you don't book in advance, the room may not be eligible for that AAA discount.

if you want the cheaper rates at UO, go m-th and in the value/low season.
you could snap rph for a cheaper price.

both parks charge a lot more for the high season/holiday time.
you need to use discounts for UO at christmas and easter time for rooms then, that is if they offer them. easter i don't see much on discounts there. disney sometimes has codes out for ap holders in that time period.

i don't go at those holidays. no matter what park you attend, the crowds are huge.

If the hotels are near capacity the rates are high. We got HRH for $149 in April, so the discounts are still there.

Damo - was this HRH rate a weekend rate or a weekday rate???
