We are going to Disney on October with some friends. The husband works for his town government and is wondering if there are any discounts available if he brings his ID card. I have not heard of any myself, but I figured that if something was out there, the DISboards would be the place to find out!!

Any info is appreciated!

The Swan and Dolphin offer discounts for all government employees (local, state and federal).

Thanks so much for the info, everyone. I'll pass it along to my friend - hopefully he'll find something good!

if you are a government employee also look at what your funding source is-my hubby is county but a major portion of his position funding comes from the feds. i have had many hotels (incl. mco hyatt) give us federal gov. rate.

Re: Government employees discounts
(I can't quote your post as it contains a URL, and I'm too new to use URL's in my posts)

Thanks so much for the website! Our dates are in the middle of two weeks (to take advantage of lower airfares on a Tuesday arrival one week and a Thursday departure the following week)
Even paying for two weeks for room enough for up to 8 people is a bargain! I'm on the top of the list for bargains! :earsgirl:

Thanks,
Karen

I'm not sure is this website will help or not. It is something I bookmarked a while ago (learned about from the Disboards) but have not had a chance to read through yet. It is for government employees.

This site is good if you are willing to stay off-site. We just got a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, full kitchen villa that sleeps 8 for $264/week. This is our first time and we do not go until the end of Oct., but that is only $37 a night. We are 2 adult couples, so there should be plenty of room and what a price. And it works the same in a lot of places besides Orlando. You just search somewhere around your dates and look through the offerings and pick what you want. Or just check later to see what is available.

Figgy4me,

That is awesome! Where are you staying? I will have to take the time to check out that site.

We are staying at Club Sevilla because that is where I could get the bigger rental. I didn't realize that the next time I looked they would have more and more rentals available. I even booked a week earlier than I really wanted to go. Needless to say, I should have waited a week or two.

They had lots of difference places available........ The first time you have to call them to rent. After that you are supposed to be able to do everything online. You are also supposed to be able to do this in others names - as long as you are taking care of it. If you wait and change to others name it is an extra $50.

Sometimes I find that if I don't plug in to Gov't rate, I actually get better deals, too. (Since gov't rates are often set to match per diem allowances). It is often worth it to check rates both ways.
Also, when booking rooms with gov't rates for large groups, be certain to check that you are getting the room type you want. Often places assume that you want a king bed, for example. Last, some places also require not only ID, but travel orders when checking in. However, gov't rates often have great cancellation terms.

hi all,
the only one i'm aware of is the swan and dolphin.you must have proof at time of check in!if you work for the city, state or gov't you can use this.
