Discounted Annual Passes

We are arriving Sept 29th and have 10 day hoppers so plan to upgrade to the PAP on October 1st. Now my question is if I buy the discounted PAP and I want to upgrade to the Premier Pass bc we live in Los Angeles, do you think they will give us the full value of the PAP towards the upgrade or only discounted price we paid? Would be awesome for us as it would be a very minimal price to upgrade to the Premier.

Thanks

From what Cheshire Figment has said, DVC AP's are not bridged so you would only get what you paid. They are not considered "discounted" but a separate class of tickets, same with Florida Resident tickets.

I was hoping for the same thing. We are going to WDW in Oct and were planning on buying the Premier to use in DLR as well. From what I have been reading it sounds like there's no way of getting a discount for Premier (buy discounted PAP but get full credit towards Premier).

I guess the only benefit is to spend less money now... Buy the discounted PAP in Oct and pay the difference to upgrade to Premier later at DLR. :/

Rats..

We already made non-disney plans... Had I known, I would have maximized trips....

Sounds like a good deal for folks... especially for those who want to go see cars in DL.

The offer is for a WDW PAP which is not valid in California.

NO! Having done this they look up EXACTLY what you paid and that is all the credit you get. There is no way to "bridge" and get the discount for the Premier. You will get credit for $399..... no more.

This may be slightly OT but I've upgraded from park hoppers to AP in the past, both before and after we became DVC members and always got credit for the actual amount paid for the park hoppers. What is it about the UT tickets that give you credit for more than what you actually paid? Is this the "bridge"?

See Post #7 & 18C (on page 2) in this thread: Everything About WDW Tickets

If you don't use them first, you should be getting the amount UT paid for the tickets. Using them once allows them to be bridged to the current gate price. But definitely read the sticky.

So basically if i have $1200 laying around I should buy these tickets (3 people) for our trip in November and save our previously purchased AP vouchers until next november year.

Is this correct??:confused3

I'd only do it if you can see yourselves hitting the water parks, golf or Disney Quest. If not, there's really not much savings over the AP & I'd just continue on with the APs already in hand.

I'm pretty sure what I'm planning to do will work. I haven't seen this scenario come up in the thread, but maybe I missed it. If anyone sees a problem with it, let me know.

We arrive on 9/23. I'll be getting DVC discounted APs on 9/24. We have 7 days in the parks with my sister and her family, so we weren't planning to do the water parks or DQ while they were there. I'm planning to upgrade to the PAP on 10/1 so we can use the water parks and DQ for our last few days and our next trip. I'm not expecting a refund (even thought the new discounted PAP will be less than the current AP), I'm just thinking that I'll be able to upgrade without paying an additional fee. Is that right?

Yes, if you have $1,200 laying around.

Quick answer: We won't know until we see it. Prepare yourself for it to go either way.

Long answer: Disney may deny the upgrade with special pricing since the activation date would have to be pushed back to the date of first use which would be before the 10/1 start date of this promotion. It's really all in how Disney handles those little details & the fact that some folk are upgrading within the 14 day upgrade restriction applied to MYW expiring passes.

I do wish everyone wanting to try this and the MYW upgrade luck and a compassionate Disney! Please don't take it out on the CMs if the answer is no - my son used to be one of them back in the college program - it's not their fault if they're just following rules. ;)

As long as the CMs follow the rules. There are occasional threads where a guest was denied ticket bridging because a CM was misinformed or on a power trip (and worse, refused to check with a supervisor) and then Cheshire Figment (a CM in ticketing) will reply that the CM was wrong, the CM handbook or Hub has the bridging procedure that CMs are supposed to follow.

I do agree that as a whole CMs do deserve much more respect from guests for the great and difficult job CMs do!

I think we will just stay with our AP renewals. A few $$ more, but I don't want to have to renew a PAP next year if we get the PAP's this year. We would have to get a new AP - not renewal.

new AP- $452 vs AP renewal $410. We have 5 of us so the PAP would save us $55 this year but cost us almost $210 next year.

We don't do DQ and still have Waterpark passes from old 10day non -expire tickets for 3 of us.

Am I missing something here??

If you get the PAP this year, you can downgrade to an AP at renewal time at the AP renewal rate.

Really? That is definitely a game changer!! Thanks! We will be there on 9/28 ( I think everyone else on this board will be there too!!) and I am going to definitely get the PAP on 10/1/12! Our current AP's don't expire until 10/2 so I will be covered!

I am planning on getting 2 PAP's per person - will cost approx $4,230 but that will be our WDW admission until 10/14!! I will just activate the 2nd set of PAP's next October and we will be all set for 2 years.

Now, need to come up with the $4K....
