If member of family works there? If so, any limitations?

Disney cast members do get a discount on DVC points when they purchase an ownership interest.

I believe they can only get the discount if they are the purchaser.

We have offspring who are CM's and we were able to purchase with the cast discount. The CM must show id, and sign a paper pledging that these points aren't going to be resold for a profit, or something like that. But we are the purchasers, and not our CM's. They are listed as "associate members."

In a way, we regret that we didn't include them as purchasers, since then they could get membership cards and such. The only way to add them on after the fact is to wait until the contract is paid, then spend several hundred dollars to have the deed reconveyed, adding them as owners. Not worth it, in my mind.

Thank you for correcting my misperception. Thanks for coming out of lurking to post the information.

Also, as a parent you must have done something right to have multiple offspring working for Disney! :thumbsup2

Actually, the CM discount is available to family members of the CM. For example, my brother works for ABC (a Disney owned company). Thus, he is eligible for a CM discount (though he gets a 15% discount as an employee of an affiliate company. CMs working directly for WDW get 25%, I believe).

In any case, when I went to purchase DVC, all I needed to do was have my brother fax a copy of his ABC employee id to my guide, and I was able to purchase using his discount. His name is nowhere on my contract (neither as purchaser nor as an associate member or anything) and is in no way affiliated with my membership.

The rule that the above poster mentioned (about having to sign something saying we will not sell the contract) is actually a new policy. My guide just informed me about it when I was talking with her about an AKV add-on. Apparently, someone somewhere figured that they could purchase with the CM discount and then flip it to sell for a profit on the resale market. You now have to sign paperwork saying that you will not do this. If you are caught doing it, then the CM whose name you used to purchase is jeopardy of losing his/her job....they are taking it seriously.

Hope this helps. :goodvibes

Yes, we just bought into SSR in December, and our CM had to go sign the paper then.

And Granny, thanks for the compliment! Actually, we have three kids, and at one point two were working fulltime at WDW and the third was working at our local Disney Store, so we had a trifecta in that department. Alas, the Disney Store is no longer owned by the Disney Company (it's owned by Children's Place, I believe), and one of our CM's from WDW moved to New England to be closer to a boyfriend (although she still is "casual temp", as she works a couple of weeks each year). But the best news is that her boyfriend just started working for ESPN in Bristol, CT a couple of months back -- which means he gets a Silver Pass!

All three of our kids pooled in with us to purchase at AKLV. :woohoo:

I just wanted to say hello...I live in Vancouver too !!!
