Discount on iPad?

My Dh has a birthday coming up and I'd like to surprise him with an iPad (or similar tablet)

Are there any discounts out there?

If you're willing to go with a refurb, you can get the first generation iPad directly from Apple at a discount of up to 24%: 16GB Wi-Fi & 3G for $399.

In order for the 3G part to work, you have to pay just like a cellphone for monthly service, but if you have a home network, Wi-Fi works just fine, plus you can use it anywhere else that has Wi-Fi (McDonalds, Starbucks, etc.).

They dropped the price of the 16GB Wi-Fi only to $299 but they're out of stock at Apple store.

It's really hard to find iPads on discount. Apple is pretty protective of its products' retail values.

Another place to try is MacConnection (1-800-986-4420). You have to call to check availability.

If you don't mind getting the 1st generation iPad, I would buy one from AT&T Wireless website. They have the 64gb with 3g at a closeout price for like $480. I bought mine last month. It's new and I haven't had any problems with it. From what I looked at, its normally at least $499 for the smallest size with no 3g so I thought it was a good deal.

QVC has all their tablets for six easy payments today--including Ipads. $100 a month would be easier than $600 at one time. There is a ship date on a couple of them for 9/22. So not really a discount but a definite option.

If you have a Target Visa, you could purchase the iPad at Target and get a discount of 5%. That's probably the best you'll do.

Not sure when the birthday is, but last year we were able to get a discount on Black Friday for an ipad apple.com It was small, maybe 8% off?

My parents just purchased a vizio 8" tablet for my son at costco for $289. It's a great little tablet...definitely gets the job done!

I have an Archos tablet that does the same stuff an IPAD does and it was only 200 bucks.

Try an off brand that way your not paying for the name.

Check with your HR department. I have a discount through apple that is about the same as the black Friday prices, which is about as low as they ever go.

An Archos tablet doesn't come anywhere close to an iPad 2. It is far inferior.

Microcenter had $50 off any ipad a couple weeks ago, might want to keep an eye on them, besides Microcenter I have never seen any deals on new ipads.

We just bought ours from BestBuy, and went through mypoints. We got about 2400 mypoints, which is about 1/3 of the way to a $50 gift card. We also used our Reward Zone card, which will get us $50 in bestbuy certs. We also used our BestBuy card, which got us 0% financing and 0% interest for 18 months.

It wasn't a cheaper price, but a pretty good deal none the less.
