We will be visiting in Nov, 08 and I have a tour scheduled during our stay at CR. If we decide to buy during our tour is there a discount for buying right then and there? A few years ago they offered $$ off of the price if I bought at WDW because they discounted $$ based on the fact that we had spent $$ to get to WDW already.

Thanks,

Any discounts that are offered while at WDW are the same that are offered to persons who purchase via telphone call. For BLT, that is currently $5 per point off the set price of $112 per point. For AKV, it is $8 off of the $104 set price, plus, if buying AKV, you get an equal number of "developer points" you can (and must use) within a year and which can be used only at SSR on site and you can reserve only 7 months or less out with them.

Not sure who you dealt with a few years ago, but what they said was not actually accurate -- they had for SSR purchasers then (the resort being sold a few years ago) a discount per point, which I believe was $10, which was being offered to both on-site and telphone purchasers, so it really had nothing to do with any estimate of your cost of being at WDW.

Sometimes, they have some extra little perks at WDW, such as they give you some fastpasses.

When we bought in 1997, we were able to use a portion of the cost of our stay at the Polynesian towards the downpayment. I don't think they have done that in recent years.

That program ended near the time you got it and has not been used since. At the time there were no $ discounts off the regular point price. After that program ended they started using the points buy-back incentive -- you could purchase and then give them back your first year points for $10 off the purchase price (sometimes it was as low as $5 and for Vero, and possibly HH but I cannot remember on that one, it even went to $15 for some time). The per point discounts they use now, where you get $'s per point off but don't have to give back any points, began with SSR.

Thanks for all the replies. The trip I'm referring to was in 1999. Obviously things have changed since then!

One thing to think about is that at times DVC has offered special financing and other minor perks when you took the tour. Sometimes these are limited to 3 days afterwards. Unlike many timeshare tours, if they say there's a limit, they will stick to it. This is true even if they don't actually tell you there's a limit. Often this negates similar options that may be available in the future as well. I haven't heard of any such perks lately for tours but have for potential DCL purchases. I do know of people that have been shut out of minor benefits for this very reason. I'd still do the tour but it is one thing to think about if you're not planning to buy now if you like the program. Worst case scenario is I'd ask your guide BEFORE you tour.
