I checked for AAA discount for early April and she said they are all gone. Does anyone know if I might be able to get a discount on the site with AP?

You might have to wait a while to see if an AP discount comes out.

Some discount types (AP and FL resident in particular) are usually announced only one full quarter in advance. So for April 2014 (2nd quarter) sometime in the 4th quarter 2013 it MIGHT come out. Relatively, those are short-time-in-advance discounts to get locals to visit who might be able to plan and visit on shorter notice (FL resident) or can take a lower priced vacation (with AP tickets are already paid for).

If you are shooting for early April, though, be aware Easter falls on April 20 in 2014 (was in March 2013) and the Fort is pretty full and high priced the week before Easter Sunday and the week after so discounts may not be needed. I'd be surprised if there even were any for then. :confused3 That's just my personal opinion. How close to April 20 were you looking?

PS - keep trying though.

I am booked for Oct right now at $77 a night for preferred site, but I want to move that to either the last 2 weeks in March or the first 2 in April. However the price of the site doubles.

The price doubles? That can't be true. October is a reasonable time to stay at the Fort. AAA rates are available and you don't pay premium rates. However, March and April are premium Spring Break months.....and especially the weekend of April 20 (Easter) will charge and get the highest rates of the year besides Christmas.

Yes for the first 2 weeks in April the rate they quoted me is $139 per night

I just pulled up my reservations for Thanksgiving week 2014 and when the rates first came out, it was $150 per night. Crazy. I waited a month and went back in to check the rate and there was nothing.....even if I tried to book an entire month! I gave up and called a travel agent. I have never used one before, but I'm tired of manipulating the website and calling the res line where no one seems to have the same answer.

My Thanksgiving week 2014 reservation is $100 per night.
