DISCON2 Registration - PayPal Problems

Hello,

I've just tried to register for DISCON2 through Paypal. I did not have an account before as I did not know this would be the only way to pay for DISCON.

It seems that to complete my registration I will need a four digit number that will come on my next credit card statement. I cannot access this information online any earlier. I just received a statement which means my next won't come for three to four weeks. Paypal warns against calling your credit card provider for this number as the request will be investigated and may result in the termination of the Paypal account.

So unless I have done something wrong or am being very stupid I think I will not be able to register for DISCON for a month.

Anyone else having this problem? Please help...

I think Paypal is referring to a number (usually 3 or 4 digits) that appears in the signature section on the back of your credit card. You will see a series of numbers (that are actually your account number) followed by a 3 or 4 digit number that is used for internet verification. Enter that number into the space provided and it should go through.

At least that's the only thing I can think of.....

Steve is right...it's a number on your credit card. That's a security measure to prevent someone who knows your cc# but doesn't have the card in their possession from shopping online.

On the back of the card , on the actual "signature strip" - the last little group of #'s (3 or 4).

Thanks for you quick responses! I had already entered that last three diget number from the back of my card when I registered it. That was no problem. I think it is separate from my problem.

My account is considered International - Unverified. Perhaps my being in Canada is the problem. I am not sure... I would love to know how things went for others outside of the United States.

The number they are requesting is a unique number for verification of the account, not the credit card.

Were the rest of you able to create an account within a day?

You know, I wondered if it was a "Canada" issue with PayPal. You might want to call your issuing bank and ask them for the number. Explain what you're trying to do, and why you need it. I'm sure they'll be happy to help you.

Taryn, I had never used PayPal before and I registered just fine. I had trouble finding my number too. I was using an American Express and my number was not on the front of my card on the right hand side, instead it was on the left hand side. So have you scoured your card for a 3 or 4 digit number......just anywhere on the card? I'm sorry you're having problems. I think Shannon is about to register and she lives in Canada too, so let's see how she does. Good Luck girlfriend.

It's been a looooong time since I registered my PayPal account, but this DOES ring a bell with me. When you get your statement, PP will be listed as a transaction and next to it will be a transaction number and that is what they are after...I think!

PP give the warning not to ring the bank, because if everyone did that, the banks would probably get a bit cranky. You could maybe ring up your credit card and ask for details of ALL your transactions if there aren't many...thus throwing up a bit of a smoke screen as to which one you are really after, that's the only way I can think of to get around it without drawing attention to just the PP transaction...

If you are reading Pete, I know you need a number of registrations for the deposit and I really wanted to register early to help with this but it seems that you might just have to wait for us international registrants. I will be along as soon as I can get that verification number but it will likely be three weeks. While it is really tempting to try to get the number from the bank earlier I am really nervous about voiding the paypal account and therefore not being able to attend DISCON at all.

I hope there will still be room for me!

After that I will have to see if my PayPal account is stilla ctive and if I can still use it or also nee to wait the 30 days.

I never had the link problem... I hope that one is resolved easily for you. Perhaps a little chunk of the net is down for you on the west coast. Usually fixed pretty quickly.

I am not really worried. I wanted Pete to have the use of the funds early but I've done what I can for now and I trust the organizers. I am sure all will be well... just late!

Worst case scenario... I organize a mini meet the night of the offical dinner called "International PayPal Refugees Dinner" and we all have an amazing time!

*laughs* It won't come to that though... I think I need to confront my commando anxiety....

Well Taryn I finally got the link to work but it turns out that the card I have registered is one that the number has change on (due to a name change for the bank and change in card carriers) so I think I am in the same boat as you now.

Taryn, I had the same problem (and OK is in the USA). I had to wait for a number to show up on my credit card statement. Fortunately for me I bank electronically and so was able to see the number on line.

Hi Everyone.. Sorry, just got home. crazy day..

I am trying to get some answers for our International Disers....I have had my account for a long time so I cannot remember how to register.. I know the 4 numbers we are talking about that is on our credit cards...but maybe it is not the same for our International credit cards.. Hopefully, I can get an answer for you.. Hugs..

Thanks for looking into this. I think it is an international verification issue.

I had no trouble locating those extra three or four numbers on the back of the card and no trouble actually registering the card. This is a separate four diget code that will be supplied by the credit card company on the statement once the surcharge for the PayPal account has gone through. I think we pay about $1.95. US

I don' think it is actually a "problem", I think we just need to wait for our numbers to be supplied. I just wanted the organizers to know that it will take us international DISers a little longer to register. I hope that won't be a problem.
