I saw this(http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=222527.0 )post on Craftster & had to try to do it myself.

I think I like it. It still looks a bit odd to me, but I think that's partly because it's flannel (hey, it's what I had on hand) & partly because I've been looking at it so long.

This was a trial runt o make sure I had the pattern right. I'm going to make it again using this:

I don't think it looks odd at all! I think it even looks great in flannel! It's going to be adorable with your polka dot fabric.

I just got my photpass CD!   I think I will go figure out how to do a TR, I'm not promising anything up to the standards of everyone else's trippies, but at least I won't fill up this board here with my photos and stories!

YAY! Make sure you post a link when you get something up!

We had a snow day today so I decided to plop my butt and the sewing machine and make my DD a valentine outfit. Instead of waiting until the night before and only getting to wear it once....here it is nothing spectacular but not bad for a yard of hearts and enough white for the ruffle and straps. I also decided to spiff it up a little bit with a ruffly ribbon heart on the bottom.

Close up of heart...

th_IMG_0713.jpg
This is SO cute! I love that little ribbon heart you put on it!

My DH is a mail carrier and I'll be sure to show him this picture!!:rotfl: He'll need something to laugh at after the cold, rainy day he had today. Hug your mail carrier when you can!! Or at least say thanks!!

Aww, I hope it brought some joy to his dreary day! I don't think I'll be hugging my mail lady, but I do thank her profusely whenever she brings something up to the door!

:surfweb: Hey it's kinda quite here tonight!! Where is EVERYONE??? Ohh wait, I bet you are all just whipping something fabulous up right now!!!! Well hurry it up and post some pictures will ya...I am kinda bored here. Kids are snoozing and DH is working. :lmao:

I was eating some CORE pizza with Teresa. Teresa, my mom, and I all started doing the Weight Watchers core plan recently. My mom figured out how to make pizza dough with oatmeal! If anyone is interested in her "recipe", let me know. It was really yummy!

Potty Training Update

Well, dd2 has had dry pants since 10:30am!!!!! :woohoo: :cool1:  :dance3: :cheer2: She even stayed dry through her 2hr nap! Now, she's in bed and I'm waiting for her to go to sleep. Then I'll wake her up in 30m to go and then again before I go to bed. It's been a great day for us! She even pooped in the potty twice!!!!! She only had four accidents and those were all before 10am before she actually realized how this whole thing was going to work! Hopefully tomorrow will go just as well and we'll be on our way to success!!
\
:woohoo:    :woohoo:

I'm about to wake her up in 10m and take her to the potty. I have no idea if she's dry or not. Last night I woke her up and took her, and after 30m of crying (literally!!!!!!!!:headache: ) she finally went. I'm hoping that since I didn't give in on that battle, she'll realize from now on "if I just go pee, I can go back to bed!" I hope!
You are a better women than I am when it comes to potty training!!!!!!! I am soooo lazy about it. With my 4 kids, I waited till they were just about three and I took out all the equipment. (potty seat on the floor and seat for the big potty). I walked them thru the steps a few times, encouraged them when they followed and waited till they did it themselves...usually within a few months of turning three. Then I waited till they woke up dry for about a month or so and then I put them in undies at night. My DD, who just turned three Jan 6th, woke up on the 7th and insisted on wearing undies to school that day so I gave in and let her. That was the end of that! Its Feb 2nd and no accidents! Yaaaaaaa :cool1: Brookie!!! She still is wearing the pullups at night (I need my sleep and I hate washing sheets everyday!) but I am still amazed my littlest is growing up so fast!!! :flower3:

I'm sitting here at my machine typing one handed while I sew with the other hand...must get dd8's vd skirt done tonight so I can start dd5's cheetah skirt....:surfweb: eyes starting to get heavy must go to sleeeeepppp:cloud9:
You've got SKILLZ!!! :thumbsup2

I made it there and back safely!! Corey spent the night at Mom's tonight, and as we were driving home, Arminda started laughing and said, "I'm playing a trick on Corey!" When I asked what, she said "I took his Ipod from Grandma's!" SOOOOOOO....... I had to turn the van around and drive BACK to my Mom's to give Corey his Ipod! Thankfully we were only a few miles down the road!

I got a letter in the mail today from Tessa and Sawyer!!!! It was so cute!!! Tessa acutally wrote "I love you Aunt Teresa" on it!!! She has very good penminship for a four year old!! I should scan it and show you all! And, Sawyer drew me a pictutre!! :lovestruc :lovestruc :lovestruc Am I a lucky Aunt or what!!!

That little stinker, Arminda! It's a good thing she couldn't contain her secret for too long! :rotfl2:

Aww...I'm glad you liked the letter from the kids. It was completely Tessa's idea!

Last night I was working on a duplicate Valentine's dress for DD's cousin. Well the last time I sewed I broke my last needle, so when I started sewing last night I had to put in a new needle. Well after I started sewing the thread kept breaking and when it did sew it was missing stitches majorly bad. Well I fought with that machine all night and again today. I even took the machine in to school with me to get help from my Electronics teachers (one of them sews). Anyway they were no help because the machine is mechanical not Electronic. So I was fed up with it and had convinced DH to buy me a new one. Well I decided to go ahead and try to find an online manual to the machine. I did. So I started reading the manual under troubleshooting. It turns out that I had the needle turned backwards. :rolleyes1 I had to call DH and let him know that I did not need a new machine. I did not want to tell him why. He laughed at me when I told him. I know you want to so go ahead and laugh. I know I am.

We've all had these moments!!! I had my machine threaded wrong the other day and was freaking out that I'd broke it already because it wasn't working right.

so my gather question, maybe I was unclear. haha I tend to do that. I want to make a dress with a gathered skirt bottom but I dont have a pattern for it. I just have an idea in my head what its suppose to look like. I Just do not know how to do the measuring for the "extra" fabric for the gathering. Like how many extra inches over her waist size to make it gathered....does that makes sense??
I guess it depends on how full you want the skirt to be. If you want it to be sort of mid-way full, I'd say you'd use twice her waist measurement.

Playdate! Poor Megan does not have many playdates because with Jacob in competitive soccer this year, our afternoons have been busy. Also, I am picky about her friends. She has to have a playdate with a friend who will play, not fight, boss her around, tattle to me constantly, etc. I don't know why girls are so much worse about this than boys!

Cute about the letter! Megan write me notes all the time. They are always the same: "To my Mom I (heart) you from Megan." She never veers from her message! Unfortunately, her penmanship is not good. Maybe Lydia can give her lessons. I would love to see it!

Can we come too? :flower3: I can't promise that there will be no bossing, tattling, fighting, though! Tessa and Lydia play very nicely with each other, but you never know what's going to happen when you throw another kid in there! ;)

That's so sweet about Megan's standard letter to you!
I think Teresa was a little over-complimentary on Tessa's penmanship. She just learned to write her letters, so they look like they were written by a little girl that just learned to write her letters! But, I'm very proud of her for even knowing how to do it!

I was thinking about making some matching somethings for Georgia's Daisy girl scout troop for their field trip to DIsney on Ice Princess Wishes. since there are only three going.

Great fabric!!! :thumbsup2 I am not sure if anyone answered you yet but I usually measure the waist and at least double it. For a dress I am pretty sure you do the same thing. You just gather it and attach it to the top of the dress. For a skirt you just gather it and attach it to a waist band. For example my DD4 is about a 22 inch waist and I cut the waist band at 45 inches long, since I include an inch for the seam allowance. I cut it about 6 inches wide so I have enough to fold over and make a casing for the elastic and attach the bottom of the skirt too. Hope this helps!!!! ;)

Here is a Valentine's skirt I made....using this procedure...

and here's the whole thing

IMGP4945.jpg

I appliqued the top and bought little leggins too... I am making another one and maybe something for DD9.75 and then I will officially post pics of them all together. I love Valentine's Day :lovestruc

Ooops! I did it, I called Tessa Lydia! :headache: Well, at least I didn't call her Sawyer! I call the kids the wrong names all the time, even called Megan the dog's name!

Of course Tessa and Sawyer can come too! I'm sure they would all have a great time! Megan's handwriting is sooo bad, but that's what kindergarten is for, right?

I love the Valentine's outfit! Great job on the appliqué!

When I first was starting out, the first pattern I bought was Simplicity 4206. It is from their Sewing Patterns for Dummies line and has a little twirl skirt, capris, shorts and a peasant top. I loved it because it explained all sewing terms. I recommended it to a friend of mine and she said she was told it was no longer in print, but maybe you can find it or something similar.

That is the pattern I couldn't find at Joanns yesterday. However, it is available for sale on their website. I think I will check my walmarts for it.

:cheer2: :cheer2: for her!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I woke Emma up at 6:30 and she was dry    We were so excited! I walked in there with a clean sheet in hand ready for the mess, and there was none!!!!!!!! She is doing wonderful and loves going potty... She hasn't let me forget about Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique either!

About a week or so ago someone (a person that when I read her posts reminds me of me and my sis, as we are sooo close and are even on some sites together) mentioned this thread to me. I am new here, but actually read some of the posts on the other threads wayyyy before I registered. So glad I was told about this thread...it seems everyone here is so kindddddddd. I have enjoyed reading about everyone and their families. I have a WONDERFUL husband and 2 super children, but of course, I have my issues so this site is a great distraction. I belong to some other sites that are funn, but must admit this is the warmest thread I have ever seen.

OMGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!
I have never seen such great women in my life....wow, I would love to be as creative as u all. Every single thing I have seen it beautiful. I keep showing my DD (8) everything I see...she wants it all!!!

I did some sewing in hs, and loved it. And then a few years after hs bought a sewing maching....which was approx 1990 And u guessed it, I have barely touched it since. :confused3

:cutie: Well Anyway Great Work everyone!!! :cutie:

Ok, here are the pictures of my problem...don't know if they're clear enough? Every time I sew - even a simple straight line, the top string breaks and is all bunched up at the end like this

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix it??? I'm so tired of rethreading every thirty seconds :headache: - it's not fun anymore?!

You probably have a different problem but this kept happening to me last night and I realized my thread was sort of tangled on the spool, it was sort of wrapped over itself so it kept stopping and my thread would break and bunch up at the needle. Check your spool but more likely check your thread tension, and also just re-thread the whole machine, bobbin too. That magically solves some problems. :confused3

:grouphug: Welcome to the group. I agree with you the people on this thread are very helpful and very friendly too. It sounds like you need to get your sewing machine out and start sewing again.

What kind of machine do you have. In the back of the manuals for the Singer machines they have a troubleshooting guide that lists common problems and solutions for them. That's how I found out about my problem. The thread kept breaking and it kept skipping stitches. The needle was backwards in the machine.

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday!!

OK - I have tried and tried with this darn ruffler, and its just so hit or miss for me. Would someone be able to share their settings with me for a twirl skirt that I made each tier 1.5 times bigger and one that I made 2x bigger (each tear doubled)????? Please?????

Thanks so much, Wendy

Good Morning. So admist all of the great stuff that has been posted lately I am going to be brave and show you my first sewing projects. I made these PJ pants for Ds Jake. I love this pirate fabric. Its so cute for a little boy. I actually made pj pants for the whole family but I dont have a pic of all of them.

Then I made thie tiered skirt last night from the Sewing for Dummies pattern 4206. I saw someone was talking about it earlier and I got it at my Joann's just last week. They had several so if anyone needs it I could pick it up for them.

We are on the way out the door to gymnastics so you get a leotard in the picture!

I was so intimidatied by the little gathering you had to do but I think it turned out ok. I actually used the $1.00 fabric from Wal-Mart to test my work on since it was the first one I had done. I was going to make a valentine skirt if it turned out alright. Dd7 Morgan absolutely loves this fabric so its a keeper! I'll still make the valentine skirt with it. tonight I might attempt the peasant top!

Too cute! I might take you up on the offer for the pattern. Our JoAnn did not have it yesterday. I am going to check Walmart today and I will get back to you.

Here's what Sawyer was doing while I was sewing:
th_DSC05854Small.jpg

He got into my ebay supplies.
If anyone from the USPS is reading this- I rolled these back up will use them for official priority mail packages only! :thumbsup2

The applique looks Fabulous!!! And that Sawyer is a cutie!

This is what I've been busy doing the past few days. I'm not happy with the fabrics I chose for the patchwork skirts. Too busy!!! I needed to get a solid color in there. But it was the first time I did them and I'll know better next time. I used a full 2x the width of each row.....and I hand gathered the ruffles......Oh my gosh it took forever!!! One is a size 12 and the other is a size 4. I still have to make the baby one but hopefully that won't be as bad! And the apron is a present for my SIL. We get together and sew every friday night so I thought this would come in handy.
th_Picture146Small.jpg

th_jojoapronSmall.jpg

The skirts are adorable!! What kind of top are you pairing with these? If you still think it needs a solid material, just use a solid colored top.

That apron is cuuuuuute!!!

These are the outfits that Vicki was referring to. I bought the shorts and made the shirts to match. We got a ton of comments from other guests and CMs. Each shirt has a hidden character too.

Y'all look GREAT! I love the hidden characters -- such a great idea!

On a similiar vein as the Nemo shirt, I made this while Megan was at school. She must have grown four inches since last summer, because that skirt is short! I don't know what I am going to do about that. Maybe just pass it along to a friend with a little one.

Here it is before they started playing on it. Sorry the pictures arent' real clear, I wasn't about to actually go outside, so I used extreme zoom and stood at the back door!

Pretty cool for free!

They look like they are having soooo much fun and FREE is AWESOME!

This is what I've been working on...a little while back, I was trying to copy a certain style skirt from :wizard: and this is my version.
Sorry about the photos...the outfit is really bright and the fabric is beautiful, but photographed against my brown/orange wall, really makes it look *bleh*
anyway..
301862025.jpg
301862038.jpg

I'm also pleased to announce that Ireland's bangs are starting to grow out...LOL
Now the question...should I Disney-fy it. I was thinking of adding a green Mickey head on the front with a yellow bow? or should I just leave it as is...the last time I asked this question about the sailor outfit, it's really paying off...I have 28 watchers...LOL

Love the outfit and I think my vote would be to NOT Disney-fy it. Great work!

How did I get so far behind?? I thought this thread was slowing down again. I guess not.

Ok so kids had a visit today and I had an hour to kill ... not a good thing. I found these two fabrics. Anybody with any great ideas on what to do with them?

th_sewing041.jpg

I was goign to use this one for our day we have Cape May breakfast.

th_sewing042.jpg

I have seen this one floating around ... just had to get some for future use may not even be this trip.

I also bought a bunch of Batman fabric for a quilt for DS 5. I tried to talk him into something Disney but he saw Batman and went crazy so I bought it. Going to try and get it pieced this weekend anyway. :)

I think some board shorts would be cute with the surfing material. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

I saw this(http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=222527.0 )post on Craftster & had to try to do it myself.

Ok, I Know I am hogging up the posts all in a row. haha but I still have these knit fabrics what would you make with them. I was thinking a swing top type dress/shirt for Georgia to wear over jeans.

I remember someone doing an outfit with that black/white Tinkerbell fabric -- it is in the photobucket account!
