I'm making the dresses using the pillowcases as appliques. A Tinker Bell and Aurora. If I have time, I'm adding Ariel for my DN2. Her birthday is in March, but we're going to WDW in Feb. The pillowcases are from KMart.

I've used the seam ripper more times than I care to count on the Tinker Bell dress. :sad2: And I'm still not sure of the color scheme I picked for Aurora. I haven't started the stripwork for the skirt yet, so I keep changing my mind.

Ohhhh! I thought you were making a costume type dress. I have the patterns, but I'm scared of them!!! I love the pillowcase idea, whoever thought of that was brilliant!!!!

Here's my work for the day. It took approximately 6 hours to do the work. Still need to fray check the ribbon and attach the lace on the hem. Or should I just hem it? What do you think?

I plan on making a peasant top to go with it. Maybe out of gauze or batiste.

Cute outfit! How was it sewing the satin pieces? DD5 wants a cheetah dress and I have black and cheetah satin I was going to use. Should I just go to the store and get cotton?

Ok this is what I have been up to tonight. This is the skirt and shirt that I made out of my $0.01 panel. I bought the last of the cream lace and it wasn't enough to go around the skirt. So I just used some that I had on hand.

This is DD's Valentine's dress that she wanted. I just bought the shirt cause I didn't want to deal with a bodice tonight.

Ignore the McDonald's cup in the background. That is DH's.

I love both of these outfits. Question - did you just sew the shirt onto the skirt to make a dress? Do you put in an elastic at all for the skirt or just let the shirt do the work?

On the very bottom corner of the page there is a link you can click on. I'm not sure what it says exactly, I think Lori can help you better and she might still be sewing!
left corner there is a little spot, if you press it , it will say mobile something. then it goes back to normal.

Love this, a peasant top would be perfect!

Oh my - I am doomed! I just can't keep up! Here is the pic of the outfit I made for Emma for her birthday tomorrow. I couldn't help but include the one of her rolling her eyes at me! This is the YCMT peasant top - I used the long sleeved pattern but had to add at least 4 inches on it to make it that way. Anyone else have that problem?

I love the outfit and the "look".
oh that peasant top pattern is not the best.

Thanks! :)

AWE - shucks :goodvibes !

Thanks so much! I used the one by dainty design - but I would like to get the other to see if it is a little more size acurate.

THANKS! :) Her hair does grow so fast. She has donated a total of 23 inches and she is only 8! It has these beautiful natural highlights too. She picked out the fabric for the outfit - I know it had a name on it but I just looked and must have gotten rid of that part. Sorry! I did get it at JoAnn though. Funny you should ask for a close up - I was thinking I should have posted a closer pic when I saw my first ones too! Here ya go!

I love the Birthday Dress. Why don't they have fabric like that at my JoAnn's:confused3 That Fabric is SO CUTE!

I love the dress and you should keep the lace on the bottom It is beautiful!

I was in Wal-Mart a little while ago picking up some fabric to make DD a Valentine's dress and I asked the lady about the book panels. She said that they had just put them on sale, and they were already sold out. I told her about making a skirt with them. She pulled a panel from under her table and told me that she would put a good price on it for me. She had cut off the instructions, but since I was going to be using it for a skirt she said that it shouldn't matter. So I got this panel:
CIMG0524.jpg

And I only paid a penny for it. It has little children's prayers on it. It is a cream color and I found some lace that matched it. I have a pink t-shirt to go with it.
All the panels at our walmart were 3.96 storybooks at JoAnn's were 9.99.
You got a bargain! THe outfits turned out so cute.
Here is what I worked on today!

I'm sending it to my mom's best friend's grandbaby :) .

And here is my handsome son modeling a very full reversible twirl skirt (he calls them "tworl skorts"). We ended up giving this one to one of his little friends, and she wore it on her birthday, and is going to wear again on Valentine's.

And here he is modeling something a bit less girlie...

He is adorable and I love the skirts.
It's a very simple sundress pattern from some old magazine that my Mom cut out. It was my first try so it was a learning experience! I learned that I will use velcro on the back instead of sewing tiny snaps on everything!

Barbie looks lovely! Great Job. Are you going to make her something out of some Minnie Dot now?

We will be at Disney from Feb. 9-15, and then head back over to my ILs for a few days before the kids and I head home (looks like DH will have to head to Miami for work first). We can't wait. Florida was almost 100 degrees warmer today that it was here in the frozen tundra (area windchill was -28).

Yep, freezing cold here too! We'll be at WDW the same time as you! We arrive on the 9th and leave for The Wonder on the 14th. I'll keep an eye out for your cute customs!

That Teresa! :rotfl:

Megan :lovestruc Bunnytown! She runs around singing, a kooky little place called Bunnytown. She thinks "kooky" is the best word she has ever heard!

Do they have anything Bunnytown there? Or just the poster?

I got another Fabric "sausage" at my hancocks today!! It was $4.99 for a good three and half foot tall bag stuffed with fabric!!! All sorts- I haven't dumped it yet- But I will post some pics and share my bounty if people are interested :flower3:

I want to see!!!!!!!!!!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
Teresajoy! Jord is a GIRL!!!!! :lmao: :lmao:

We took this pic for you!

(Not that you can see Morgan's outfit-but that doesn't matter when Jord is in the pic right? :rotfl: )

My daughter has the same 2 teeth missing right now. oh and the bunny town poster behind her makes me laugh. has anyone else seen that show. it is tottally wacked!
Lori

If my girls have anything to say about it I will! I should've never started this, now they want everything!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Welcome to my world! LOL

I sew for Jord,Baby Morgan,Baby Noah,a HORSE, Elmo and a build a bear puppy!

I don't have time to sew for my own AG :guilty:

I think it is just the poster-I have not seen anything else.

I absolutely love this outfit. You did a beautiful job and that fabric is to die for. I would go with the lace at the bottom. It is very pretty that way.

I am glad you all like the outfit. You know, it's the $2 a yard stuff at walmart with cluny and eyelet lace and some ribbon that was tied on a gift. Total cost was $16. Really cool. I topstitched the ribbon in rows to the panel.

And this is for Easter. Probably the egg hunt. Easter will be a mega-lace confection!

Morgan got a kick out of all the "signature" poses and asked me if I had shown hers (which I don't think I have  ) But here is the "Morgan":

Morganpose.jpg

I'm working on my first appliqued overalls!!

I'm doing a cars theme for my nephew. I have the bib done - and now I was going to add the phrase "piston cup" down the side of the leg. I cut it out of the cars pillowcase that I bought at Waldemort (thanks to the tip on here :goodvibes) . In between the 2 words is a circular emblem (it says "racing world"). Do you think I should cut it apart into 3 pieces and applique it on separately - or should I do it as one piece? :confused3

And should the words read from bottom to top - or - top to bottom of his leg?

Thanks!

And thanks to aimeeg for posting that gorgeous animal kingdom/minnie dot dress. Its just adorable!

I love that dress. So, cute. I am anxious for your response to someone else's question about how you sewed the skirt to the shirt.

I love that dress. So, cute. I am anxious for your response to someone else's question about how you sewed the skirt to the shirt.

When I have done it, I have gathered the skirt (with upolstery thread, of course) and then pinned it straight to the shirt. Then sew the seam and zig zag through both layers and turn it over and top stitch the seam to the bottom of the shirt. I hope that helps!

I love your patterns, especially the stripwork jumper pattern...and the ruffler ebook is great. It really helped me when I bought my ruffler foot...the instructions that came with it was pretty useless.

Thank you!!! It is amazing that something that complicated comes with so little instructions. I've purchased toasters that came with much more in the way of instructions!

Very nice! I just got your new pattern. I am hoping to applique Mickey heads on the scallops!

Your son looks SOOOOO happy to model your "tworl" skirts.

Thank you! I can't wait to see what you create!!! Actually (despite the grumpy looks in the pictures), Louie loves to try on the things I make, especially big fluffy twirl skirts. I don't know if he will be such a cooperative fitting model a few years from now.

Hi, Carla!!
Is the Scallopini Twirl Skirt one of your ebooks? I saw that in the newsletter and really liked it! Nana

That is mine - thank you, Nana!

Love the idea of the reversible skirt. Is that one of your patterns? Or did you wing it?

That one was an idea I was playing with for an eBook, but I decided that 1) the construction of it is pretty basic and could be figured out without an eBook (I want people to get something that makes them say - "ah-ha! that is how you do it!") and 2) It would be torture to do without a ruffler. I'd be happy to describe how I did if you all are interested :) .

Carla, that is gorgeous!!! When the picture first started loading, I thought someone else had had the idea that I had! I am thinking of making an Ariel skirt with it. I have some green shiny mermaid scales material that I thought might be really cute! It's a great pattern! I love your tip about sewing the tulle!

Oooooh! That is a great idea - I can totally see that! You could even put little seashells in the scallops!

Love the new pattern, I'm adding that to my wish list! DD10's name starts with a J and she wants that shirt! (but a little larger :lmao: ) I guess you've realized by now that the stripwork jumper and portrait peasant dress patterns are very popular around here! They are my 2 favorite patterns! I'm dying to try raglan t's but I'm askeered. I haven't sewn with knits before.

Here are my 2 favorite patterns in one outfit :lovestruc (shameless photo reposting)
DSCN2919.jpg

Awwww - she is such a little dolly! That outfit is gorgeous! I also saw the one of her in the rhumba peasant - that was so adorable! The raglan is actually super-easy - very "whip-upable." Lots less work than the stripwork jumper, for sure! The hoodie is even easier than the one with the neckband (and it isn't bad, especially if you use ribbing).

I love this pattern! So cute! Are the scallops hard to sew? Do you use a rolled hem presser foot? I tend to fight a little with mine. I did get my new machine today, though, and I can't wait to try it out! I have the HM fabric that they had at WM. I am still debating on making a skirt out of this, or a twirl top to be worn with tights. I just can't decide......

The scallop layer is actually lined, so it is a matter of stitching along a line that you make from a template that is included. It is actually really easy compared to hemming (especially around all those curves)!

Thank you! I guess if I use the doll patterns for 18" doll, it will fit both dolls but a little big on the Disney doll.

I have some thinner bodied dolls than AG (they are built like linebackers, especially the older ones), and they can wear most of the stuff from my patterns. The peasants and pants/skierts fit just fine, but the jumpers are a bit loose in the bodice.

These are soooo GREAT! You did a fantastic job! They are all cute!

A PENNY?!!! you got a great deal! How do you all find this penny fabric????? I want some!!(Insert whiny smiley):rotfl:

Beautiful outfits, and I am jealous of the fabric score!

OOOOH! Gorgeous! I love the combo of the laces and the rich fabrics - very Victorian.

Gorgeous - now that is something I'd have my girls wear to a wedding or christening - stunning :)

Now.... I hear everyone talking about a ruffler, I've been thinking of getting one (but they are $90.00 here  so I'd have to do some serious sweet talking - or get selling some stuff on Trademe which is our equiv to :wizard: ). Do you think I *need* one??? ATM I gather using the shirring elastic which I find works well - or I do a zigzag stitch over embroidery floss (prefer the shirring elastic now I know how to use it). Will a ruffler do proper pleats also??

What other non normal feet do you consider a must have?? as I will probably buy a couple to get the most out of my postage.

I guess it just depends on how many ruffled creations you are going to making. It is a huge time-saver if you are going to be making lots of very full twirl skirts. If you are just going to be making an outfit here and there, hand gathering is fine. I still hand gather when I don't feel like messing around with the ruffler.

Thanks! :)

AWE - shucks :goodvibes !

Thanks so much! I used the one by dainty design - but I would like to get the other to see if it is a little more size acurate.

From the feedback I've gotten, it is accurate :thumbsup2 . I have a textbook with really detailed measurement charts, and I use that to make sure I get the right arm lengths, etc. Also, when I first started doing the "dolly and me" patterns, I invested in a set of "slopers" which are basically standardized fitted bodices that patternmakers use to draft their patterns. I use them to double check the fit of the bodice. Probably more info than you wanted - LOL!

Great job!!! Those tiny curvy dolls are SO hard to sew for. And I can so relate about the snaps! When I was a kid, my aunt made me a ton of really nice Barbie clothes, but didn't sew the snaps on them. My mom doesn't sew, so they just went snapless for the rest of my Barbie playing career. I still have some - if I ever have a little girl, I'll sew some snaps on them for her.

I've seen so many great things lately! I am actually going to join in the fun. I put a couple of picture on photobucket last night so here are a couple of things I've made in the last few months.

This is Drew's Thanksgiving outfit. She wore it to school the last day before Christmas break too.
Drewandmrs.Barber.jpg

Drew asked for a special birthday outfit. There is a 6 on the skirt of the dress that you can barely see. I actually played a dirty trick on her. She loves that rainbow rick rack and well, I don't! She is always begging me to put it on everything and I never ever do! So, I was buying this fabric and thought, "I can put that on this dress and she'll love it and I'll never have to see it again!" Win, win!
Drew6thbday.jpg

Well, those are the only two I have up so far. I have a couple of others that I will try to get up later!

I've loved everything and have been stealing tons of ideas from all of you!!!!! Keep up the good work.
